Rockstar Games Announces 4 New Versions of L.A. Noire coming November 14, 2017

Ehhhhhhhhhh. This is like the most unnecessary """remaster""" yet, but I guess L.A. Noire deserves a little more of the spotlight. Still, that's a reaaaaally good boxart.

My guess would be that the VR game would be primarily the interrogation sequences, putting you face to face with the characters. You'd also have various scene investigation areas to explore and look around in. Cutscenes would bridge the story points to simplify travel and narrative, and maybe on-rails shooting or driving sequences would kick in for action. It wouldn't be the full game, and wouldn't be something that would be complete enough to reinvest in the non-VR PC presentation.

If enhancements made to the new versions was viable (although let's not kid ourselves, these remasters will have jank, it's inherent to what is the original game's technology, unless you're talking encryption or something PC-specific?) it'd be good to flip it back down to PC, but having no screenshots to go off of for this "range of technical enhancements", I'm curious to see if it's possible to make a difference with this game?

Anything on the Vive has to be 90fps - and the PC version in it's current state is locked to 30fps. The game is so bad, almost at the level of GTA IV.

So they have to have done something, so my point is why not mention anything about that - unless they genuinely and purposefully have only worked on this segment as a separate entity and the rest of the PC game will stay in its rotten state

So is this to test the waters possibly for a L.A. Noire sequel? Or perhaps this could be the start of possibly seeing GTA on a Nintendo System.

Either way, kudos to Rockstar for bringing L.A. Noire to the current gen and spreading it out for all to enjoy.

Shouldn't need to be a test. L.A Noire is one of Rockstar's successful IP pillars next to GTA and RDR due to selling over 6 million copies. At least according to Take Two.

anyone else notice the weird klingon forehead on the dead lady? i mean i can't be the only one. just look at it!

edit: ok this is an itch that has come back with a venegence. some googling and this condition is called: frontal bossing. google image at your own risk.

This is such an odd announcement, and it is being released for the Nintendo Switch as well... At least Rockstar is acknowledging the Switch.

I really dig that new box art. though.

Hope this is true, I'd really like to see another "Noire" at some point that is more fully realized with a refined interrogation system, choices that actually matter, an economy system, buying clothes, cars, guns, etc. and maybe multiple protagonists as well. I'd be fine with L.A. again but New York or Chicago would be cool too.

It sold quite a bit, and yet Team Bondi closed up shop a few months after the game launched. Mind you that if we were to get a sequel, there would be another group that would work on it of course. Question would be if the demand would be there for a sequel to be made and just how much would be sold on all consoles since if there are a good number of people who buy it on Switch, that could cause Rockstar to possibly consider a "GTA Experience on the Go," as long as Nintendo decides to play along. Personally myself, whether if we got to see "L.A. Noire" or even something like "N.Y.C. Noire" or any other kind of city Noire spinoff, I'm all for it and what it can provide in the story telling narrative.

Either way, I would consider checking out L.A. Noire again when it comes out. Bonus points if it also gets to enjoy "enhancements" from the PS4 Pro and the X1X (since the system would launch a week before L.A. Noire does).

The NS version also has motion controls and gyro aiming. That detail can make all the difference for someone...like me.

What do you need motion/gyro controls for in this game. Aiming in this game pretty much homed in on the target.

LA Noire kinda isn't good, but I like it for some reason. I really enjoyed the setting. But the game itself feels halfway done.

Remember that this game cant render at 60 fps because of the way the facial capture was made... So forget about it, or at least thats what i remember reading back in the day.

Would be in for PSVR, hope that it's still coming. Probably it needs too much resources for them to get it running on the base ps4 (or less resources and too many sacrifices)

I wonder how (if) they're adapting the facial performances for HFR 60/90fps and greater stereoscopic depth. Interviewee faces were often quite close to begin with, add in the ability to lean in and around in VR and it doesn't sound like an ideal tech matchup.

I'm at really weird point with this game. I beat the PS3 version 2/5 of the way through. At some point got the PC version and now am 1/2 of the way through.

Fuck my life lol. I really don't know if I care anymore. I like the game a lot, but it had better be a great remaster. And no PC version? Dear lord WHY?

One of my biggest concerns with Rockstar doing a sequel themselves is them taking shortcuts/liberties with a lot of the real-world things that Team Bondi got licensing for. In L.A. Noire all the cars were real production cars that were made during that period, same with the guns. Also locations like Grauman's Chinese Theater, City Hall, etc. If Rockstar makes a sequel I don't want it to be "San Andreas Noir" with generic 1940s versions of GTA cars. Those real-world places and items added a lot to the game for me.

Why Rockstar instead of Take Two? They didn't develop this in the first place.

Rockstar is kind of its own publisher, despite being owned by Take Two. They bought the rights to the game after Sony dropped it and had a big hand in helping to finish the game, with Rockstar Leeds providing the technology the game uses for the open world, as well as Dan Houser working on the writing for the side quests the game has. It may have originated from Team Bondi, but Rockstar still had a big part to play in the game's development and shouldn't be diminished.

Say what you will about the game, but the new box art is great and very eye-catching.

Rockstar published L.A. Noire, most of the game's revenue would have gone to them. By all indication, Team Bondi was a poorly-managed nightmare and highly dependent on publisher funding to continue existing.

I'm almost tempted to buy a Switch copy just to support Rockstar actually recognising the thing... bizarre choice though.

You have RDR and GTA and you pick this! It's like Nintendo making a huge fuss about a HD remaster of Wii Music

Oh, that brings up an interesting issue actually ...

I was just thinking that the "video faces" would look janky in VR because they're only as good of resolution as the capture equipment of the time and you'd see them up close in 3D ... but there's also the real and unavoidable issue of framerate. Surely there's not 90fps captures of the facial capture, I can't imagine that's what the capture rig was set up for. And the game requires those video files to create the characters, so how will the VR version work with the MotionScan? Will the locked 30fps video files be visibly choppy? Can they interpolate to 90fps/beyond and come up with satisfying results? (The 3D characters and the faces already have problems meshing sometimes, so how will framerate affect the already-rough melding?) Would they dare to replace the video files with fully 3D faces resynched to the audio files (and would that effort be worth the work?) This VR prospect seems particularly complicated, not sure how it's going to work.

I'm almost tempted to buy a Switch copy just to support Rockstar actually recognising the thing... bizarre choice though.

If it were my money I'd rather Rockstar "test the Switch" with The Warriors or Table Tennis or Bully, but hey, whatever gets us any close to GTA: San Andreas Stories (still a dream) is something, and at least R* seems to be putting some custom effort into this (though it should have gotten those graphical enhancements too.)

One of my biggest concerns with Rockstar doing a sequel themselves is them taking shortcuts/liberties with a lot of the real-world things that Team Bondi got licensing for.

Eh, Rockstar isn't one who's afraid to spend money. If they were to do it, I think they'd go full bore on it. And it wasn't a Rockstar production, but did T2's Mafia series use any licensing cheats?

I'd like a poster of this.

The download section of the LA Noire site has decent-resolution images of the new art in the Downloads/Wallpapers section. Maybe not enough to print a poster for your wall, but it'll do in a pinch.

Second-best Rockstar game of last gen but if I want to replay it I will just play the PC version.

Hope that means there is a chance for a sequel.

Honestly, the PC version runs for me right now with near perfect image quality in 30FPS. I think I'm using 4x SGSSAA for this particular title.

I don't fucking think I can go back and do all those same cases over again. I will wait to see what the actual improvements are. Because if it ain't much then why bother I'll just finish my current version.

RDR would probably eat into next year's title (franchise fatigue) and GTA 4 would only make sense on Switch. With this, they get to tackle 4 different platforms with one title. Best commercial choice.

I'm really looking forward to see sales comparisons between the Switch and PS4/One numbers. This is crazy news alltogether, never played through it on PC and might pick it up for a budget-ish price point.
