Lashley

Why does he wear the mask!?
616 Logan didn't murder all of the X-Men, wander a bleak world where villains had taken over, married a woman and had children, started a farm that he could barely for, and then go across the entire country just to watch his only friend die, fly all the way back to his home and find his family's corpses. He then killed the Hulk clan, adopted their kid, and then his entire damn timeline was ripped away. Again, losing his friends and anyone he could barely call family.

If 616 Logan had the same arc, then one of us has been reading very different books.
You're right Logan didn't kill all of the X-Men, he was forced to kill Jean though, wasn't he?

He's also had numerous women he's loved die, as well as constantly trying to settle down only for a villain to come and ruin it. He's seen his friends die countless times too.

You're right the exact same arc didn't happen, but both characters are very similar, and I personally, much prefer 616 Logan, but that's just me.

So uh, Captain Marvel spoilers...

Did Stohl literally just kill Avril off again right after she came back in Secret Empire?

She literally doesn't give a fuck about any other writers does she?

The only person who used her is Spencer and he's seemingly done with her so I doubt anyone cares.

Waiting for the storm to knock out my power so I'm going through some books I never read. First up was JLA Earth 2. Really great little graphic novel. My favorite bits were the Owlman sections, he's a really enjoyable asshole to follow. Also reminded me how gutter loss can be annoying. There were several spreads that were kind of a pain to read with the physical trade. Still, fun read.

Art inconsistencies bother me, characters shouldn't have different looking clothing from one page to the other unless they actually changed clothes.
Same topic, but artists changing each issue bothers me a lot, too. All New Wolverine sometimes has art that makes Laura look like an ugly middle aged woman. It is very offputting.

My base point is that they aren't just copies. OML is a far bleaker character whose growth to reconcile his losses and attempting to reconnect with those he once lost.

Passing on the new Slam! series because the new artist is an unsatisfactory replacement for Veronica Fish. Plus I hate it when series treat each new volume like a new series.

Remembered Uber: Invasion, by Gillen, was a thing that existed and shouldve come out by now. 8 issues released. Had a read.

loved the zephyr implementation and how racism is clearly horrendously screwing the allies up.

I just got around to reading Roughneck by Lemire. Had my friend pick it up while she was in the US. Bigger than I expected! Really beautiful story. I love Lemire's lonely Canadian rural life comics. The environments are gorgeous, and the way he colors memories in a bright way compared to the bleak present the characters all live in was interesting. It's nice to see more colors in the end :)

I really want to like Extremity but it was the book I was talking about in art inconsistency of clothing and the first two issues have no idea what shirts the lead character is wearing during the initial scene and the flashback of it in issue 2 again, it's all over the place...

Same.

How's Curse Words? What's got you hooked? Sell me on that and Youngblood.

Funny you say that, I just read Hostage the other night.

Very, very good. I've never read anything by Delisle, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. But it's a really gripping story even if it's not necessarily action packed or anything. The pacing was great. I definitely want to dive more into his other works later on.

Finished reading Hostage, it was pretty good. I wonder if it would have worked even better as a digital book without page numbering. Delisle was able to get across that unending timeless stretch fairly well

Try his other books, I think you will enjoy them. The tone is similar and his even documentary-style insights into foreign cultures is pretty well done.

No Image this week. Dropped Kill or be Killed after #9, I wasn't feeling it.

Edit: Did any of you guys read Hi-FI Fight Club? Is it good?

Brat Pack is quite the oddity. Thinking it is probably the most cynical book i've ever laid eyes upon.

Is weird how it goes from simply mocking hero-sidekick archetypes in quite a few surprisingly human manners straight back to the main Dr. Blasphemy arc. (also a wonderful design there, the unzipping of his mouth was... quite the thing).

Wow. What didn't you like about KobK? That's one of my favorites. I'm so into every single issue. I love the writing.

I really like Hi Fi Fight Club so far, but I think issue two will be the one to judge from. It's beautiful and cute and fun. Wonderful.

I know KobK is doing a lot right but for me it hasn't been good enough to read monthly. I'll put up the trade on Hoolpa.

From what I've seen of the art Hi-Fi looks good. Just needed people here to till me it's good. Thx

Sales make me read comics before adding to the backlog even more:

Kill or be killed #1: kinda gloomy and weird, not my ideal book scenario. I bought issue 1-4 two sales ago, 5-7 last sale, so I have to read these before buying 8-10

From Ellis' letter:
I've been talking with a couple of people over the last week about old, formative comics, and into the comics from my formative period that should be read. I've been trying to write a list. It's not going well, because no time. Partial:

ALEC: THE YEARS HAVE PANTS, Eddie Campbell

BROUGHT TO LIGHT, Alan Moore & Bill Sienkiewicz

LUTHER ARKWRIGHT, Bryan Talbot

DOC CHAOS, Dave Thorpe/Phil Elliott, not least because Elliott's style of the time, married to a notional adventure strip rather than the Gimbley work, sent me into new historical explorations

Aline Kominsky was always more interesting than Robert Crumb

ABE, Glenn Dakin

X, Sue Coe

(anything by) Carol Swain

AMERICAN FLAGG 1-12, Howard Chaykin

RONIN, Frank Miller & Lynn Varley

DEATH WARMED OVER, Krystine Kryttre, which you can still buy!

Not formative, especially? But not enough people have read it and you should: ST SWITHIN'S DAY, Grant Morrison/Paul Grist

Also, why don't more people know about Renee French? Either THE TICKING or THE SOAP LADY by Renee French, to start with.

Bryan Hitch and I agree on RONIN. ELEKTRA LIVES AGAIN was better-drawn, but RONIN was a pure and original burst of Miller, the guy just emptying his head on to the page between company-owned projects.

And on that Chaykin note: I know he's "problematic" now. Trust me. He was problematic then, too. But those twelve issues are a narrative masterclass - storytelling structure, the graphic representation of information, time-slicing and the brilliance of letterer Ken Bruzenak.

This was - and this will sound weird -- this was a time of superstar letterers. Ken Bruzenak. Tom Orzekowski. Joe Rosen on DAREDEVIL. Annie Parkhouse. Tom Frame. Richard Starkings, the last guitar hero of the hand-lettering years who invented the industry-standard digital lettering system and destroyed the world he came from.

Okay, I'm getting random now. Time to wrap up.

I've seen a few vague tweets about some prominent creator tweeting about how his new work is pissing off SJWs. Any idea what this is referring to?

Having enjoyed Rick Veitch's Brat Pack, looked into his other self-published works and opted to have a go at The Maximortal.

That was a considerable mistake.

Even less subtle than brat pack, with none of the humor. Dude's like an even more cruel Ennis wrt capes.

Saw that Slam getting a second series so I read the first Vol on Hoolpa. Overall pretty good. Loved the art and the simple but engaging story. Worst part of the series was the place they cancelled it and then for no reason doing a new #1. Kinda of left me hanging there. I don't if I've pick up "new" tomorrow.

Also picked up Go Go Power Rangers #1 and 2. Liked it a lot especially the art. As long as the art is that good, I will pick up this book. Biggest problem in this book is that I wish it wasn't Mighty Morphing but instead In Space, Ninja Force, Light Speed Rescue, Dino Force. MM isn't only season of Power Rangers. Wish Boom make a series based on my childhood Rangers.

My hope is that MMPR goes past MM and into other series. At least the entire Zordon saga would be awesome, though it's quite an undertaking
