Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Releases December 1st 2017

So i got a weird question. Been mostly on a media blackout of the game only watching a few seconds of game play footage here and there.

Do we actually know if anyone who is not a Driver, can actually see the physical manifestation of the Blades? Or are they only seen by those who are connected to the weapons?

I know, strange question...like i said. I have been trying to keep myself spoil free on this game.

I'm not sure if they've mentioned anything about it yet. However based on the Direct trailer from last week, it seemed to me that Drivers/Blades are an accepted part of the world and not, like, Stands or Personas.

I don't know if it's been directly mentioned at all, but people would probably be confused by Nia riding an invisible cat.

It's lighting our dreams and I hope we're alright
We're all the same, even if from another world
We don't belong here anymore!

Transfer screens to your computer. Problem fixed!
It's just a bummer because I actually like looking through my screens on my Switch, so I'll have to keep copy/pasting "sets" back and forth.

I think I'll copy/paste everything up through Super Mario Odyssey, put it in a separate album folder on my PC, then on the Switch delete all of my Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 screens, which is around 1,500 shots combined.

Then if I ever want to look at the MK8/Splatoon 2 screens on my Switch, I can copy/paste the Xenoblade collection into a second album folder on my PC, and then copy/paste the first folder back onto the SD card.

Hmm... I think that'll work.

I spent hours of flying from the edge of Cauldros back to NLA instead of Fast Traveling just to hear this song while flying. Don't take this away from meeeee.

Ha, Tanaka did design the bird dude.

I hooe they had him did a human one as well to test out how good it would look.

Can't wait for them to unveil all the other guest artists and guest voices for the gacha blades. Bet they all end up looking better than the actual main characters. :p

Whatever anyone thinks, X will forever have a standing and iconic legacy of freaking incredible transforming mechs (Monolith are shit character modellers, but damn those mechs) in a seamless open world. Just something no other game has really captured or will in the future.

Elma can pretty much use unlimited overdrive almost by herself when you give her the right skills. Just using 2 team commands i was able to have most of my team in unlimited overdrive close to 80% of the time.

I never figured out how to get them to stay in overdrive which is why it was mostly just me in it once I figured out a setup to quickly build the required TP.

My primary complaint with Overdrive though is that it's an individual mechanic as opposed to a party based one like Chain Attack.

I just liked having the party combine their skills to down enemies while passing turns and encouraging each other.

Seeing that there are rare blades with unique designs makes me excited to find them. I didn't know guest artists were designing them so that makes it even better.

I honestly never got far enough into X to really say whether or not i liked it.

I remember thinking that a lot o the early game combat just felt unnecessarily slow. Things seemed to take forever to die, and the need to wait for arts to 'charge', while 'deeper', seemed to grind the pace to an even slower crawl.

XC2 seems to return to the more quicker, snappier pace to XC, if the rumour/discussion that the reason why current foes in the shown demoes seem to take so long to kill is because they have had their HP values boosted to demonstrate combos, among other things.

Otherwise, I really hope combat isn't as slow as its as in XC:X.

Rex's design is kind of growing on me, especially after knowing he actually dives underwater.

Pyra is a lost cause, though.
Rex's design clicked the moment I saw he's a deep-sea diver. The heavy boots, the wetsuit, the bulky pants, the helmet-hood — it all makes sense now. Well, "makes sense" in an anime sort of way.

Pyra has a very striking design... I just wish they'd tone down her proportions and give her some pants. It's a design that'd raise an eyebrow from anyone not immersed in videogame culture 24/7. That being said, I really like her color scheme, textures, glowing accents, etc.

I wouldn't mind seeing "Rex & Pyra" as an Ice Climbers-style pair in Smash Bros.

I wonder if they'll update the Blades post release like an F2P gacha game.

That'd be interesting, but I don't know if people would necessarily go back to the open world just to find 'new' blades. Especially if the content is going to be released after a majority of people would have likely finished the game.

I can see there being DLC packs being released for 'famous' previous-title characters, though. Granted, the series is still so 'young' - Monolith likely isn't going to touch anything that is from Xenosaga or Xenogears with a ten foot pole, although (Xenoblade Chronicles X spoilers)
given how similar Elma looked like KOS-MOS, there's always a bit of an homage element to it
.

Re: the story: does anyone know if Soraya Saga is involved at all? Or at least what she's been up to?

Well, I've warmed up to this game even though I have some issues with "Otaku-Bait" character designs like the one Pyra has. Anyway, It seems like this XC2 is a fully fledged experience with a complete narrative like the first Xenoblade with all the bells and whistles. Day one for me.

Perhaps one day Monolithsoft will remake XCX featuring a complete narrative, that has a definitive ending, that's faithful to Takahashi's original script for the game. Apparently he wrote a great deal of content for the script and a lot of it probably didn't make the cut.
”Come to think of it, Takahashi-san wrote a lot," says Xenoblade Chronicles X director Koh Kojima. ”I've worked with Takahashi-san for a long time, but this was the first time I've seen him write so much for a game's plot. It was as if he was writing a novel."

I felt that the ending was pretty heavy sequel bait, so if they revist X, I doubt it'd be a remake.

I got the impression that even if XCX ended up as story focused as originally planned, it still would have been intended to be the first game in a multi-part series.

I also think XC2 has the most interesting setting in the series, with all of these different factions, each with their own (living!) Titan to call home, and their race to find a fabled land, Elysium.

I definitely agree with this. There being a good amount of different factions and groups is what's particularly exciting to me, opens up some pretty fun story possibilities. I can't say I consider the other Xenoblade stories particularly interesting (yea, even the original was just okay shounen stuff with characters I mostly disliked), and Xenosaga games are... Well, a beautiful mess of some great and some absolutely awful stuff, so maybe this'll finally be the modern Xeno game that has a story I genuinely like from all perspectives.

It has the potential. Don't let me down now!

I also like how each of the three drivers in your party (playable characters) is followed by their active blade character, so you effectively see six characters at a time.

Couldn't disagree more with this though lol. They're a worthless distraction to me and I hope I can tell them to fuck off. But I'm not holding my breath. UI settings, maybe, but this? Nah.

I think Rex and Pyra have good designs with her's being ruined by her stupid proportions.

Well now you've made me sad. X2 with more transforming mecha would be amazing.

I think that a remake makes more sense considering that making a sequel to a Wii U game, that only reached a small audience, might be off the cards as it can alienate potential newcomers that didn't play XCX and, as such, might not make much business sense.

I got the impression that even if XCX ended up as story focused as originally planned, it still would have been intended to be the first game in a multi-part series.

I doubt that will happen now considering how game development costs have skyrocketed compared to the times back when Takahashi and co were making multi-part series like Xenosaga and Xenogears (both of which suffered from budgetary constraints even back then).

Both Rex and Pyra have pretty bad designs imo and I'm annoyed it seems like we can't change them, unless it's been confirmed we can.

There is some kind of cosmetic shop in the game. Maybe we will get some different skins for the drivers instead of individual armor pieces.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own

You have to be more specific on what makes them bad designs, because there's a difference between bad design and a design you don't like, Red's design makes perfect sense, pyra's design of course is remenicient of her sword but some of it will have to do with her role in the story as well

not aesthetically pleasing, and way too fanservicey for the other.

I get that's his job or whatever (at least in the beginning of the game), but he could be a surfer by trade and run around in nothing but swim trunks and boat shoes, and it'd make sense for his job but I would still say "That's a garbage design."

Not just guest artists, but also guest VAs. I dunno how the English dub is handling it, but the Japanese side is making it sound like all these rare blades have famous voices who aren't in the normal story cast.

There's a Cosmetic shop in the game, which we still don't know what they change exactly. It could change clothes for your Drivers or have color swaps of their clothes.

Wouldn't be shocked if Adam Howden gets a cameo voicing one of them.

yeah, one thing though. That diving scene in the trailer was definitely CG right?

if the game has CG cutscnes unlike the other xenoblades it would indicate that clothes can't be altered.

However, it could just be like The Last Story when you get CG cutscenes only when things are set, and it doesn't show the characters

He just typed in the same post that there seems to be spots where you deep dive for items or treasure, and even possible plot points

Yeah, didn't realize he wrote it at first.

Which probably means main character will be running with such a gear, and won't change into something more believable. They could've made him keep this gear only for diving.

She* ;)

I see a lot of people bring this up, but I just assumed it's a shop like all the other ones shown where you probably sell/purchase collectibles related to that type of shop.

I really don't think were'e getting armor like in the past games. At most, I think we'll be able to get special costumes you unlock from a sidequest or something. Or you unlock "swimsuit mode" after beating the game. Plus, Rex being blue and Pyra being red are probably important to the story.

And the character design debate never seems to end. I admit I wasn't a big fan of the designs when they we're first revealed. But seeing how expressive they are and just how smooth they look has me really loving them now.

They've got a lot more personality than in the first one. And the shading/textures/lighting look so good. I love all the main casts's designs so far.

In case anyone wasn't sure these two screenshots were from the same scene: https://twitter.com/XenobladeJP/status/910056539230150656

It was stupid for people to doubt this was the same scene. And unlike some of the other comparisons there were more than lighting changes here (since lighting can be affected by time of date and weather in Xenoblade cut-scenes).

Yup
totally.

Btw I suspect that Rex will grow on many, once we will be allowed to discover it as a character

Very nice. I have no problems with the characters. I have no problems with Rex or Pyra. Their clothing seems fine. I'll be enjoying this game instead of worrying how everyone dresses lol.

I hope you won't complain in the future how people are always bringing the discussion about characters into Xenoblade threads since you're doing that yourself now.

Uh, BURN!?

I'm talking about him as a human being, with behaviours, opinions, acts, lines, and so on.
I wasn't talking about his design like...AT ALL??

The comment I was quoting wasn't taking about design neither, but technical improvement of the build compared to the previous one, and I moved from that to the character as a character, not touching the design that is the "crucial" aspect of that kind of reiterated critic

I noticed this morning that Best Buy Canada has the special edition listed finally.....annnndd theyre gone. Sold out. Hopefully they get more in stock for those who want the SE.
