Duck season is out, anyone tried it yet?
Oculus store | Steam store

Looking at the steam reviews, people are apparently completing it in an hour. I'm guessing they have completed one ending and assumed they've finished it since the trailers mention 7 different endings and 7 different modes.

Theres also Masterpiece VR on the oculus store Another sculpting app to compete with medium and the other sculpting apps.

What are your thoughts on prison boss vr? is it worth getting?

Looking at the steam reviews it seems to be 45 mins - 90 mins long. Another really short game :(
The gameplay mechanics for prison boss vr is good and unique. the handling of the items are glitchy but functional (such as the drawer and table). You can see for yourself with some gameplay videos on youtube. Also has an exploit that makes the game too easy.
You will have to get past the glitchy handling of the items to enjoy the trading and crafting mechanics. Or wait for the devs to issue more fixes first

I have read on facebook that Duck Season is around 1 hour per ending, but there are many secrets and mini games , so I think there's a lot of replay values.

yeah I'm treating it similar to "please dont touch anything" in how that handles secrets and different endings. I won't be getting it myself since the main duck hunting gameplay does not interest me, although I like the night gameplay from what i've seen. Interested in hearing how the shotgun feels to use based off the dev video talking about solving 2 handed weapons in VR.

Whenever I try to use the Rift w/ monitor set to 144hz the performance is usually so bad that it is unplayable! Fortunately, switching to 60hz always resolve this issue. Is this a non-issue for most people?

I have the Rift alongside the PG279Q and don't have any issues. That being said, I came across something similar when RTSS was active and its global limiter was set to 60. Killing RTSS while using VR solved it for me. (I thought framerate limiters wouldn't affect VR?)

I'm getting some kind of strange tracking issues in The Unspoken... it's difficult to describe, but it's almost like the world is turning a little bit after I turn my head, or not turning the "correct" amount. Always On reprojection is turned off fwiw.

I'm using ReVive, but The Unspoken isn't known to have any problems as far as I can tell. Github mentions some performance issues, but that isn't really what I'm experiencing.

Fail, I was using an outdated version of ReVive for the game. (I have ReVive set up in a strange way.)

I've put just a half hour into Duck Season. Nothing weird has happened yet but I'm not pushing it yet. A fair amount of neat little things, and you gotta love that trailer...

Played some Onward.

Too realistic for me. I played against bots and even then I died. Reloading takes too much time. Its not a bad game. It seems really great if someone wants to play a realistic CS game in VR.

There's a new blog entry for Township Tale

its a social VR multiplayer game where you and other VR players play as villagers for a village. Everyone takes up a job and has to work together to maintain and defend the village together. The stuffs you do includes venturing out to mine resources to craft weapons, farmers will create food for everyone, warriors will protect the village etc.

Just tried out Onward for about an hour (solo, haven't tried online yet).

Love the realism of it in terms of how you reload in the game and the guns feel great.

However I hated the controls (playing with touch controllers), I felt like I was fighting the controls for most of it and it was super easy to get overwhelmed and confused in the heat of things. The controls for sprinting don't work as well as they should either and popping the magazine out took ages to get the hang of with the touch analog stick (still not sure if I can do it reliably yet either but I think this is me being confused with the controls.)

I also couldn't pull out the tablet during the solo missions so not sure what I'm doing wrong there either.

Will give online a try this weekend but the realism of it definately gave a wow feel when I played my first solo mission.

EDIT:
Played onward for another hour (still playing solo stuff), this time trying different guns and got stuck trying to figure out how to reload the p90 and other weapons that require you to hold the ammo.
Ended up figuring it out in the shooting range, I guess any weapon that has the ammo "locked" in needs to be grabbed to pull out on release. For a gun newbie like me, I didn't know it was different from the other rifles that just drop the magazine.
Tried the sniper rifle out but the scopes are a little too specific on the angle it wants you to look through so most of the time I'm getting half of the scope dark.

Also found out why I couldn't sprint reliably...I didn't realise I had to lower the gun to run.

See I had the opposite reaction to playing onward for the first time this weekend (and bought it straight after my first session).

I think the slower pace helps it a lot being in VR, and the fact a couple of bullets will kill you adds to the tension.

Touch controls definitely need work and sprinting sometimes doesn't work for me, even with my gun down, but really enjoying it and I'm yet to play online.

Played through Serious Sam The Second Encounter (with Cheats enabled), without cheats I wouldn't have finished this game because it gets to wavey/arena like for my tastes with millions of enemies I have to destroy. I'm glad they didn't take the cheats out for the VR versions. I mainly used the cannon in the right hand and the kill-everything-bomb in the keft hand. The most fun I have in these games when enemies go splat with one shot of the cannon, when I have to wittle down a healthbar of a big enemy or boss, I have less fun.

Despite my issue with the core gameplay of these games I had a lot of fun and if these games work so good in VR I wonder where the mission based shooters are, slow and methodically with stealth, surely they would work too but nobody is seems to be making those anymore (even outside of VR they are dead I guess).

-

Also played some more Google Earth VR, I just love checking all the 360 pictures I come across when visiting places in VR. But it's the second time now that the app froze, it's definitely not as stable as before as it never did that before. Not sure what causes this, luckily it doesn't seem to happen at the start, seems to be a problem when building up a lot of data maybe when looking at too many pictures, filling up some cache... just a guess of course.

Played Onward today for about 1 hour and a half and enjoyed it so much. Got the hang of all the controls now. Played operations with the same 2 guys the entire time with the 4th player changing as they came and left after a few rounds.

We were getting killed on normal difficulty so we dropped it to easy and worked our way through each difficulty setting until we were finally playing on Veteren difficulty with 8 enemies to kill.

One round all my team mates had died and I had no more revives left. With 4 enemies still somewhere in the map I had to go it alone and I got us the victory, I felt so badass lol XD By the end of all the games we played i was leading in kills and revives and least amount of deaths.

I'm playing as a specialist (with the gun that is selected after p90, cant remember the name but it has a yellowish ammo clip) with body armor and a g17.

I'm definately considering buying this now.

Also here's another Soundboxing challenge i made:

Cowboy Bebop opening - Tank!

I've had Onward since release and I still don't really know how to sprint consistently lol.

Sprint by lowering or unequipping your gun and clicking the trackpad in for movement (on rift, you click the left analog stick in).

My next seated game is gonna be Chronos :) Its been waiting since the sale ended.

Reloading takes too long? Once you have done it a few times you can reload faster in Onward than in just about any standard FPS, same with Pavlov. Due to the way the reloading is implemented and that its very lenient with where you insert mags and bolt release you can reload in the blink of an eye with practise.

Basically in most FPS games you switch to your pistol because its faster, in Onward and Pavlov you never do that because reloading is always faster (except possibly with the belt fed LMGs)

The bots aren't really easier than enemy players, especially not if you find a server full of new guys from the free weekend.

Edit: But if Onward is to "simmy" try Pavlov its more in the vein of CS rather than ARMA, i.e. you wont die from a body shot but a headshot will deal significant damage and you are a bit faster on your feet and reloading is slightly more forgiving.

I've had Onward since release and I still don't really know how to sprint consistently lol.

You might need to recheck your height settings because you cannot sprint if you are ducking below your characters height so you need to configure the height properly in game and make sure that your floor is correctly calibrated (steamVR somtimes drifts in height). To sprint you aim down and doubleclick your joystick or touchpad.

hillsides or stairs can often interfer with sprinting due to the game being confused on how you are standing compared to the ground because your playspace is always horizontal so either into the ground or out into the air.

Yo Lakuza, enjoyed your Prodigy and Gangnam style Soundboxing beatmaps! Good stuff.

Thanks :) If there is enough of a demand we could create a thread specifically for sharing beatmaps and I could update the OP each time someone posts one so they can be found with ease. But, its only worth doing if there's enough people making their own beatmaps and playing eachothers.

Yeah, my first day playing the game reloading took ages and I hadn't realise that some guns require you to grab the clip and then eject. But by the 3rd day I was reloading my main weapons without even having to look at the gun much, took me no more than 2-3 seconds.

I do think the bots are kinda broken in the game though. It seems like they can shoot through walls and they can shoot you in a split second as they turn round a corner even though they are facing away from you, the bullet will shoot at right angles from their gun just to hit you.

Another issue I have is that they spot you instantly. The moment you see them, they'll become aware of you even if they are walking away from you.

Some more sound boxing challenges:
I also have 3 chocobo challenges too, each a different difficulty:
Gangnam Style seems to be my most popular one still (only 55 plays so no where near the crazy play counts that others have but still cool to see so many playing something I made XD)

Definately interested in VR sculpting apps that I can actually use to speed up my animations. I read one review complaining that masterpiece vr lacks layers, uses its own system called highlights instead which apparently isn't as accessible/intuitive.

Interested to see how it stacks against medium though.

Pretty nice to be able to mirror the right eye if you are using that to aim for videos, the new prices for a few items helps the balance of S&D quite a bit and the defuse-kit gives CT a much better chance of completing a defuse now.

Started Chronos last night and really enjoying the game, playing on heroic as suggested by a lot of people on here and on reddit.

Always wanted to play Zone of the Enders but never got round to it, hopefully the vr version is considered a success from fans of the game.

oh! Thats great to hear.
Glad I caved in and got it during the closing summer sale on rift store. Looking forward to trying this one out :)

EDIT:
Not sure if this was posted yet, but got this in my email. Its the new update for Rec Room : Park life:

  • New venue "The Park" - a new, expansive, outdoor environment for you to play in! The Park is designed primarily for creating your own activities in Custom Rooms. Speaking of which...

    624hQKM.gif

  • Custom Rooms - you can now create, host, name and publish Custom Rooms. Once published, Custom Rooms can be browsed and joined via the Custom Rooms browser in the watch!
  • Note: Custom Rooms replaces "private games" in the activities tab (all Custom Rooms are private until published), and the "Events" button in the watch.
  • Weekly Challenges are back! We revamped some stuff on the backend, and we can now support some different types of challenges =]
  • 3D Pen - 3D drawings can now be stuck to various objects, including youself! This is pretty fun for costumes, etc =] We have more planned on the 3D Pen so... feedback please!
  • Dodgeball - added a penalty for leaving the court.
  • Paintball - fixed voting for next map (it was broken, sorry :-/)
  • Moderation - re-added "AFK" as a report reason. Reporting a player for AFK can remove them from the room (depending on vote), but does not penalize them with a timeout.
  • The Rise of JumboTron - fixed issue where videos weren't playing
  • Performance Hall - added Sandbox machine
  • Sandbox Mode - you can now see the name of the player you hit/who hit you (plus some other tweaks and fixes)

OK that's it for this update! As always, we value your feedback and suggestions. Come and talk to us:

I recently tried out VR for the first time at a local mall. The hardware was setup was a HTC Vive, GTX 1070, and two of the HTC motion controllers. I only played a bit of a shooting game where I have to shoot flying drones out of the air while dodging incoming fire, can't remember the name though. At any rate, I thought it was an interesting experience, but I wasn't completely blown away. It worked as advertised for sure, but I wasn't wouldn't cal myself a convert. I also tend to get really bad motion sickness so I limited myself to about 10 minutes. At any rate, I'm interested in a few VR games like ZoE, Rez, Battlezone, RE7. Mostly controller based stuff as I don't have the room for motion based stuff. That being said, my hardware includes a PS4 Pro and a gaming PC with a GTX 970 and 4690k. I'm leaning towards PSVR due to price. What say you?

Started playing DOOM BFG Fully Possessed, it's quite good. Didn't even install a texture mod, I feel like I don't need it. It's strange, in 2d I definitely wouldn't wanna play without it, in VR... I don't care.

That said, the horror element of the game is not what it was 15 years ago when I first played the game. Not really affected at all, it's a fun little shooting gallery to me these days. (I still need to find out which button is for sprinting)

I think you played pirate trainer (vid to check if i'm right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JC52_ocftw). If thats the game you played, then its one of the early games for vr so its kinda outclassed by all the recent games this year.

What free space do you have in size? You don't need a massive space for all games, You can play most games sitting down so you dont have to worry about issues when using motion controllers (some games also offer options that are catered to players who have small spaces or want to be seated).

If you have a capable pc I will always recommend pc vr (whether its Vive or Oculus Rift) as they are significantly better than the psvr. No point in trying to save money and buying a vr headset that is weaker in tracking, performance and options, you'll probably regret not going with the slightly more expensive option since you have the pc to handle it (and there is a large difference between psvr and the pc headsets). Also there is a bigger library of vr games on pc (you can play both steam vr and oculus rifts games with either pc headset). Sony does have RE7 in vr but that should hopefully be available for pc next year (rumoured to be a year exclusive on psvr).

Since you have bad motion sickness I would actually advise not to play battlezone and re7 straight away as I have seen people reporting motion sickness from those. Might want to start with more simpler games when it comes to movement until you can handle the more intense ones.

Hi, I have both an Oculus Rift and a PSVR.

You appear to have played Space Pirate Trainer. As that's a game without artificial locomotion you shouldn't have to worry about motion sickness when playing it. There are far, far better games of that sort available today though (such as Robo Recall).

I would honestly advise against opting for a PSVR over either PC headset. You don't actually end up saving much money as whilst the PSVR is $100 cheaper than Rift, it doesn't come with Move controllers that you would want for many VR games and experiences.

It's actually pretty poor value for money comparatively, as the Rift comes with multiple full games, versus the PSVR's demo disc, and comes with 2 sensors versus the PSVR's single camera. The single camera is also a pretty big issue for the PSVR, as both the headset and the Move controllers are effectively relying on outdated PS3 Move technology. The tracking can be very questionable, and if you're worried about motion sickness, I'd rule it out on that alone to be quite honest (along with the 60fps that you'll get on many PSVR games as opposed to the 90fps you'd typically have on PC). All of the games bar Resident Evil 7 are available for PCVR (and RE7 will be eventually), and there's incomparably more software available overall.

Basically, I wouldn't recommend a PSVR to anyone as their only headset, unless they lack a gaming PC and were unwilling to buy one.

That's something I keep forgetting to try out. I remember playing quake on gear vr and didn't bother installing the high texture pack for that once i started playing it as it seemed to look fine when you're immersed in it :)
