Booted up Steam for time in months and checked the new releases....WTF

So I am sick and in bed and want to play Dawn of War.

I check the new releases and the first one I see is this thrash:

keep in mind this is on the front page and they are charging people for this

What the hell is going on with Steam?

Do they not quality control anymore?

I checked the "Developers" previous games to make this wasn't a joke and nope....

Why did you bypass the 15 different things on the front page that serve up decent games to go to an unmoderated list of new releases?

Is that how you shop on Amazon or iTunes? Just go to a list of the latest things added to the store regardless of anything else?

The stupid meme games are one thing but this is beyond the pale even for hands-off-we-let-the-bots-handle-our-busywork Valve. Why the fuck would they OK this?

Anymore?

They never had quality control. Even back in the day when it was curated it was not about quality it was about being friends with Valve or making a game someone over there personally liked.

A robot okayed it

There's latest releases and popular releases.
Popular releases are basically new releases that are of higher quality or popularity.

Latest releases is basically everything release in order. And it's definitely not the first thing you see or that is highlighted.

That's disgusting and it shows how the steam store approval should be curated more, but anyways, I'm sure people will have strong arguments to reafirm this.

There's some real garbage on Steam but it's really difficult to find it unless you go out your way to do it. I've noticed that after using curators and using the queue during sales, they're basically hidden because the system knows what I play.

The new Steam overhaul (coming soon supposedly) has the goal of rewarding good games and making the bad ones invisible. I'll take a completely open platform (to its detriment) over the alternative of having Valve police what goes on their service, which led to a lot of good games getting denied back in the day.

Fair enough but I found this pretty easy for a person who hasn't logged in months

What is sad is that although Steam releases have grown exponentially, I'm sure you would not need more than one fucking employee to scan them and flag those shit. It's not like it's hidden in any way.

Seems people in your region love the Suicide Simulator. Its not shown in popular releases in my region.

I'm not seeing it either. I even checked in an incognito window to make sure it wasn't just a personalization thing. It's nowhere on the front page. It's three clicks deep into new releases.

You could check Steam every day and you would never know about this game if not for this thread.

There isn't a trending tab on the mobile app for some strange reason. Unless I'm missing it.

(The app needs some serious work)

No Suicide Simulators on my front page either.

Tricolour Lovestory on the other hand...

yeaaaah... gonna need to mess with my filters on that one

Steam users love their stupid anime bullshit apparently

Steam has some minor problems with visibility, but curation initiative, filters, reviews and altered storefront makes it very easy to browse good, new games. It's a non-issue for me, OP.

Still better then this

I love how this is being brought up in every "There are some shit games on Steam" thread.

Pro tip filter out the tag Anime from Steam. And while you're at it you can block the tag memes as well. That's what I did a while ago and it was a major improvement on the front page.

Well, the point here isnt there are shit games. But shit games being highlighted and it's crazy that the PlayStation channel highlighted it.

In the mobile app go down to the new and trending section and on the bottom right of the list of games is See more: New Releases if you click on that it will take you to the page with the tab, scroll down to where popular releases is on that page and you can click on the new releases tab. I can see this game there.

There are too many actually good games with an anime aesthetic, though. Gonna nuke "memes" from orbit, though. That's nothing but trash.

Valve definitely should take action against these "publisher" that exists to push these "games".

Well, yes. That's the unfiltered list of new releases which does indeed contain an unfiltered list of new releases. If you do not want an unfiltered list of new releases you should not peruse it.

And It's not even default tab, it's added by enhanced steam.

My point stands. Bringing it up in a completely unrelated threads on a regular basis seems pretty silly. The trailer was posted on a Playstation youtube channel, which is insane and embarassing, but it wasn't highlighted on the storefront at any point.

It is a default tab on the new releases page, it's on the website.

Anyway, pretty shitty that there is a "game" about ways of committing suicide. Not really something that should ever be a game.

People have the choice to buy it or not. This is why there are tools like tags, discovery lists or refunds. Although I agree some have no place on the store, but then again, I prefer that than the opposite situation, aka someone deciding for me if this game is good for me or not.

If not for this thread I wouldn't even know it released since I rarely dig deep down to the whole new releases list and even if I did, I'd just scroll past games like this one.

My new popular release list:

Ah, but you see OP, if Valve implemented even the most basic moderation needed to stop games like "Suicide Simulator" and "ISIS Simulator" from getting to the store, then clearly it's a slippery slope to incredible games being rejected unfairly and there is absolutely nothing anyone can ever do to stop this, it's an impossible problem to solve. GAF experts told me so.

I can see it under New Releases on the Android app. Not in popular but in the basic list of new releases.

Regardless of where it is appearing, why is this shit even allowed? Who is moderating new games?

So... Not really front page since it requires you to change the page. It's basically complaining to find unfiltered content... In the unfiltered tab.

It is in the new releases tab in the front store, is not an item lost in the many tags or buried, is right there just by the side of popular new releases

People can be apologetic about ANYTHING

The people who buy them should be moderating themselves. If people didn't buy shit like this, it wouldn't be on sale.

Sure, on mobile. If you use the desktop, like you would to actually play your games, it's right there. In certain regions anyway.

You're right, it's a tab next to the popular one. Not the featured one neither the default one.

Hey at least in the Isis game you're killing ISIS and not the other way around. Also I question the accuracy of these simulators.

For people saying this is ok because it is in the unfiltered section would it also be okay to have a game called concentration camp simulator on Steam?

I mean, if there's a curated section, and a non-curated new release section, that sounds like a perfect solution. Providing only what they curate would be policing consumption, which would be a massive turn off.

I can't say I'd enjoy this game, but I like the fact that I can decide for myself to not play it.

False analogies never hold up.
