At the end of the 4-hour long Tokyo Game Show 2017 ”Atlus Live Special #1: Megaten Feature," the previously released teaser for the Shin Megami Tensei HD Project was shown. After it, an image teasing more news to come for the game on October 23, 2017 was shown.

The game was announced at the January Switch event.

For a second I thought it said that the game was called Shin Megami Tensei HD News.

Which I now very much want to play.

Only Switch announced so far, but it was just listed as "HD project" rather than "3DS project" like Strange Journey Redux was on the SMT website so I think it could be announced for PS4 as well.

Just Switch so far, but the wording surrounding it leaves room for a multiplat release.

As far as we know it's only a Switch game at the moment. Wouldn't be too shocked at a PS4 port but Atlus aren't exactly known for releasing their RPGs on multiple ecosystems. We'll have to wait and see.

Thanks, ill take what i can get. still have a switch but id prefer a high res version as well. ue4 makes multiplat more likely

Was hoping for news at one of the Atlus' livestreams, but expecing to wait for the beginning-of-the-year Direct at the earliest. I'm more than happy to wait a month.
Just show me something substantial, Atlus.

finally, really wonder why they didn't show anything at TGS!

I really hope it's SMT V, but i wouldn't mind if it was a full remake of 1 and 2

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Announcement of an announcement but goddamn am I excited. Really hope it's kind of a return to Nocturne.

Can't remember -- was there anything indicating whether this was a Switch exclusive or not?

Edit: nvm, I read the thread. That helps sometimes!

Please be as amazing as Nocturne.
I wouldn't expect the same sort of creativity with regards to basic series conventions that Nocturne brought about; but that doesn't mean it won't be a great game.

I'm expecting Apocalypse in HD.

No, thankfully. All we know is that the Switch is one of the platforms it'll be coming to.

I'm not especially a fan of exclusives but I have the feeling the Switch might need this one.
Though I don't think it will.

I’d love for them to announce this as coming to the PS4, but I’ll totally get a Switch for this game. How soon I get one depends on that release date, though...

Only thing we know about this is that Apocalypse Odin is prominently displayed, which is cool since that's the one demon redesign I actually like.

Atlus should just spread the love around.

SMT HD on PS4.
Persona 5 Crimson on Switch.
Except this is a brand new game, Persona 5 would just be a "port" (whether it's upgraded or not).

But yes, if most games could be multi, would be easier for everyone.

I don't think they promised any update before they showed that though. Saying "Next information" here sounds like it will be more substantial than that update to the teaser (which wouldn't be hard obviously).

It’ll probably be a much bigger thing since it’s going to be shown at the live concert event they’re holding on that same day. Those are the events where Atlus tends to go all out with trailers.

*expectations increased*

Let's not get too crazy.

I think there are more reasons why it'd make sense for this to be both on PS4 and Switch than just Switch, to be honest. Unless they have an exclusivity deal with Nintendo and/or they're partially funding, I can't see why they'd leave money on the table.

Sure SMT has mostly stayed on Nintendo systems lately, but there has to be some decent overlap between Persona fans and people who could potentially be interested in this. Also UE4.

There were some very obvious reasons for SMT to stay exclusively on 3DS last gen. For the Switch it's completely different.

I think that some people are giving this ''HD project'' on the official site too much thought when there is no reason. If the game was coming to other platforms, why they wouldn't say it already? I mean the game has been announced since January and every time they talked about it, it was pretty clear it was for Switch. I think that they left it as an HD project on the official site because it will be the first real HD game in the franchise (well there is SMTxFE but...).

The same reason Ace Combat 7 and Ni no Kuni II were announced as PS4 only then later announced for other platforms, maybe as some sort of show of support for the platform-holder? I don't think that is the best approach but maybe that's why. I know though as said earlier in this thread, Atlus games don't typically come out on multiple ecosystems simultaneously so I could see it not happening.
