Trees in forest from the demo (the one you can choose to explore at night) have it. I think it's a rare drop from trees in a few other zones too.

This has probably been answered already but I bought the game and I want to play it but I was wondering if it's better to play the other games first before this one.
Finally, my first S rank!
Although it feels like I was given it lol.
However it's fine to begin here. Except for Ys I&II and Origin all the Ys games are standalone stories.

Once you start upgrading the base you just naturally start scoring higher because of the value of the defense tools

As Aeana said the forest but only those burnt looking trees not the regular ones.
I got like 5 so far not bad I am sure its going to get much tougher though.

Depends on whether you want to get into the series proper before treating yourself to VIII or start with VIII while people are playing and then return to, say, a mid-2000s entry before doing Seven or Celceta.

Why in the world did I just get a 3 minute cutscene explaining something Ive been able to do the entire game like 35 hours in? Did the vita version get shafted on

Yeah it might have been locked in the vita version until that moment.
And they added it from the start in the PS4 version, but didn't alter this scene.
Without that function, I probably wouldn't have been able to play on Nightmare.
Anyway I'll have to continue tomorrow. Already put a solid 40 hours in this game. Time flies...

Yeah it drops items off the mobs item list once on impact so you can farm rare stuff very fast. Let me get 40 energy stones to upgrade my whole party in about 15 mins *from monsters that dropped ore* and helped with rare drops too

Ah, good to hear. It said it drops items but I was sceptical on its effectiveness. I'll be sure to put it to use next time I play!
Speaking of which, I just reached the beginning of Ch. 5. The whole
switching feature between Adol and Dana makes for an interesting twist to the usual Ys formula.
Dana joined shortly after, though. I really thought it would still be a ways in for that.

You weren't locked out of it on the Vita version. The reason they did that cutscene was because before it you didn't actually "warp" places. The "warp" was basically people walking from point A to point B when you first start the game, which is exactly why they made sure to set camps and what not. An attempt to make it look 'realistic'. There was basically no 'magic power' at play at first, and then you get that cutscene and what not 'cause now you can actually warp., lol.

Just got there myself. I've been dumping a lot of time into the game this weekend.
If you max Paro's approval, the dialog in his max approval scene makes it seem like he's definitely something more than just a bird, even then.
Not just his max approval scene either. If I remember right, he makes mentions of the dream in other dialog as well. But it's hard to catch without knowing the later information.

He is amazing and the only beyond "ok" character so far for me. Which reminds me I need to visit him in another location.
I hope he can teach other party members new skills and not just Ricotta.

I earlier logged off having cleared one area of tough mobs + 1 extra tough mob. Leaving me only an additional extra tough mob to deal with later. Well I just logged on now and got the shock of my life xD I was stood amongst the tough mobs with the BOTH extra tough mobs lurking not a millions miles away from them. The game saved my location but repopulated *all* the creatures! Oh well, more loot. But next time I'll be leaving PS4 in suspend/resume mode.

Haha wow. I just unpaused the game, nudged forward just a tiny bit and got the trophy for exploring with Sahad. What an anti-climatic way to get a trophy.

I think I should have got another trophy for playing as a character a long ago, yet I only unlocked the one for Adol and that was really early in the game. Really strange since I'm constantly changing characters and I've tried to use Adol as little as posible.
I'm trusting people's comments on the lenght of game, I don't want to have to leave my ps4 on if possible. It would be nice if they included each character's playtime in the journal, I want to know how much I played with a certain character, if only for curiosity's sake.

The level 56 raptors near the crystal where you find the wifey. Agro the group of 6 of them dodge one leap, bandit tackle the shit out of all of them, then kill them on the next dodge
teleport back and repeat
