That Prey deal jumped up to 20$. I would have gotten it if I wasn't knee deep into DOS2. The discount is solid. Good news is it will be @ that price many more times the rest of the year. Its @ 445k on Steamspy so Beth is probably happy with its overall performance.

There's a dropdown selection for library folders in the first installation popup where you see the game size and such, you can also create new library folders straight from that drowdown if at any point you want to.

Yeah this is what I do.

I have a 256gb SSD and 4gb of regular Western Digital Blue.

Seems to work fine for me. In the past loading times were a bit of a pain in the butt because you'd exit one room and the game would have to load from CD. But now there's barely any loading in most games (that I play) except for when you start up the game or save file. GTA or The Witcher 3 might be the longest one, but once you're in, there's no other loading really. I don't really see the benefit of games on SSD, but I guess I haven't tried it.

Having the OS on SSD is a no brainer though, especially if you're like me and turn your computer off after every session.

Thanks both, much obliged. I think that's what I'll do then. It's great to get some real world thoughts on things like this as a total newbie to PC gaming. This thread and the "I Need a New PC!" threads are quickly becoming my favourites because of all the good advice people are willing to share.

Looking forward to having a half decent PC and calling this thread Home. So many games on my wishlist that I've just never been able to run before.

Yeah, I'm also having the OS and select games on a 256GB SSD and the rest on a normal HDD.
Works pretty great.

I just counted I have 15 games starting with the word "Dead"

It has to be the most used game title starting word other than "Super"

Evil Within has 700K, after 3 years and a lot of super cheap deals down the line. I guess if console sales were similar to Evil Within, I could see them going for a sequel. Then again, they have a lot of single player FPS games on their plate right now. I could see them downsizing Arcane and to just focus on Dishonored.
Super Space Dark Star - LOST Dead Last (Zombie VR World)
Perfect name for a cheap asset flip. The name alone would make it sell.

Ya, I only buy games I plan on playing immediately or very soon after the sale.
I can proudly say that I completed all games I bought in the last 2 years*
Except Ys Seven, still working on that one atm.

*This doesn't include bundles.

With bundles my mindset is generally: If I buy a 1$-tier it's fine if I get a couple hours out of the games, I don't really care about finishing anything.
With BTA I'd ideally like to complete at least 1 and put some hours into the others.
If it's 10$ or 15$-tier I want to at least complete a few games, especially in the higher tiers.

I use a similar mentality. I’m not so concerned about completing games because it’s rare I see a game past the 10 hour mark, but if I feel like I got my enjoyment from it then that’s fine.

I have quite a few titles I know I could start and really enjoy but I just haven’t because I have too many games. And when I really truly see that, I tend to avoid all but the absolute best bundles. Everything else can wait. Plus I have other hobbies than games.
Like complaining on GAF

I think I’ve finished all of the PC games I’ve bought in the last year that cost more than $20, so that’s pretty solid. The list is short but those are the ones I want to really focus on. Plus there’s a few games that I got for cheap but are worth full price to me and my taste, personally, those are also key. These are the sorts of things I focus on to help me deal with the list of games on Steam, which can be faceless and drain the excitement I once had for the title.

Welcome! I hope you enjoy the PC transition. I think it’s really remarkable when you do build your PC to whatever you feel you need. It can be a very rewarding experience (especially when you’re happy with the price to performance and you’ve got what you aimed for). And oh god, when you play a major AAA game at 60 fps for the first time, you’ll lose your shit. I still haven’t lost my appreciation for how good games play and look at that frame rate. I hope I never will.

They're t-shirt cosmetics for the survivors. I'm not sure how you get rid of it though.

JASE?

Why did you change your avatar?

It's still Saoirse, why are you concerned? :)

Just completed another game today, which made me interested in comparing my owned/completed ratio.

I own 564 games and completed 75 games according to my list. This puts my completion rate at 13,3%.
Of course there are some free games in my library and games that don't really have an end and a lot of games I don't even want to complete.

I find it interesting that this number is relatively low as a number, but my gut feeling says I've played and completed a majority of the games that can be completed and that I actually want to complete.
Kind of an interesting contrast.

My completion rate is around 14.2%. In number it is 312 completed games of almost 2200 games. I wish it is higher since I don't really like the idea of buying games and not play and finish them.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Too bad that cdkeys site gives me prices in SEK instead of Euros so the prices are quite a lot more expensive :(

There's a currency selector in the top-right corner. ;)

I have to wonder how this will work in Poland, since we (still) are part of EU.
Any business singling out a single EU country is asking for a lawsuit.

It won't be any different. That's just how the store in general is designed: anything that doesn't have a price set in a particular region isn't available in that region, which carries over to instances where the currency of a store is changed. For what it's worth, the Polish store won't become isolated from other stores within the EEA, so nothing will change on the gifting front despite it having local currency support.

I think Valve should revisit how currency changes are handled. Instead of items that haven't received updated pricing being removed from sale, they should be converted 1:1. Better that than nothing.

JASE?

Why did you change your avatar?

To add on to Deques' post, it's a self-portrait.

Welcome to the bestgaf in that case. :p

I currently roll with 2 SSD's and have room to keep everything in there, but before I did the exact same thing with my most played stuff on SSD and the rest on HDD's, worked well enough. Ultimately you should still see improved load times from both drives if you are used to console load times.

I'm still at Act 2 at D:OS 2 at 53 hours (though many of them are just me afking). At this rate it will take me a few weeks more to clear it i guess...

On another note, it seems D:OS 2 hit 93k concurrent and seems it's gonna go higher at this rate.

is the "cosmonaut shotgun pack" a thing i want to install in prey?

i feel like that sounds like the kind of garbage that ruins early game balance

I installed it. Game was quite tough in the beginning still. You can install it but not take it since you won't have it from the beginning.

Doesn't really make a difference. It's just a shotgun you get negligibly earlier than when you'd find an actual shotgun, no stat or upgrade differences or anything, just has a more ornate appearance to it.

You can find a shotgun that early in the game, you just have to search a bit for it. It's not a big thing, even with a shotgun alone you are quite vulnerable, if you don't play smart.

question for anyone who has played Pillars of Eternity :

would it be considered wrong to make my own party on my first playthrough instead of picking the companions i get from the story ?

Yeah, I'm currently on an SSD that's 400gb ish and then there's a 2TB HDD but that is full of a bunch of videos music / audio production stuff etc. I really struggle to have all the games I want on the system at any one time, but then again it also works in stopping me losing attention, so I stick with games, finish them and then remove them. Probably need another SSD but I think I will inevitably just put any money towards other hardware changes

Aren't they a level lower than normal party members? (Don't ask me why.) That, and missing out on the companion banter (which can be pretty good!), would be the drawbacks.

It probably would be OK, balance-wise. I ran with a couple (might've been half randos, half companions) in my playthrough, and aside from the final boss it didn't feel like I was terribly underpowered or anything. This was pre-expansions though; I think they did some balance stuff in patches around then, too.

So who's ready to start the magical girl fest and killing games on Tuesday?

I'm not so sure about the killing games part, but i might try to awaken my inner magical girl :p

Translation: I spoiled the first two Danganronpas for myself by watching LPs of those before they were even ported to PC, so it would feel strange to get the third one without the prequels. I guess i might watch an LP of the third one as well :p And i might get Blue Reflection, especially if the promised Blue Reflection + Nights of Azure 2 bundle comes with some sort of discount.

i think you'd miss out on some of the best writing in the game, so yeah, i'd say way to go is first with obsidian companions, then with your own

hmm think i will compromise and do 2 playthroughs one with vanilla and one with self created characters .

on another note do the modbot giveaways still come with a standard " need at least 5 posts in this thread or the previous thread " rule ?

kinda want to try my luck at Shadow of Mordor . above ^^

Prey is turning out to be a game for another season. It's so dense with readable things, emails, item descriptions, that I will never progress far enough in the time I have for games.

Only if the giver uses the NOLURKERS rule. Otherwise, no.

Rusts Waterpipe shotgun & and Double Barrel Shotgun are always fun

Double barrel sounded like a car crash or an explosion every time you shot it until they fixed it. That was great for awhile
