Star Trek: Discovery |OT| To Boldly Stream Where No One Has Streamed Before

The technology is too advanced for the Prime universe. Like way too advanced. At least Enterprise tried to tone it down, but this looks like the Prime universe's advanced technology.

It's the Star Wars Prequel problem all over. At what point in the next 10 years does the universe somehow become less advanced design-wise? When do the Klingons lose those fancy shells? Why are the ships so fancy? It's all too fancy.

When they had the holo briefing with the admiral my mind wondered to TNG using laptops and iPads.

Trek has always tried to think of what's next, so I can't really fault them there even if they are pre TOS. It's fiction, it's just as easy to imagine a TOS Connie in this style.

Pretty good first episode, but they played pretty loose on command in this one. If they're going to gritty, realistic... Well they messed it up episode 1. And I don't think a brain slug will be making an appearance.

They really should have set this after Voyager. Then I wouldn't care about the sudden jump in technology.

Aside from the opening set pieces, this universe doesn't seem very strange, or present any radical departures from preordained canon, a flaw that exists in latter day Trek, like TNG, DS9, and Voyager.

It's still early, so we'll see. Are the captain's convictions worth dying for? Are Klingons in this timeline all humorless assholes? Is Sarek at everyone's beck and call? I don't come to Trek to see space battles, if that was the case, Nemesis would be the apex of TNG. Is there anyone out there... worth visiting?

Awww goddamn it was the end of the episode..that season preview tho.

Solid second episode, really doesn't slow down from the end of the first episode.

Glad to hear it is received well, also glad it's not on Netflix here yet. My insomnia doesn't need encouragement.

Added a trio of reviews to the OT, Zoller Seitz (Vulture) had some pretty interesting things in his review:
this Trek offers PG-13 violence, audience-pandering exposition dumps, cliffhanger endings, Game of Thrones-style pomp, and a touch of Lost's mystery box plotting, but also poker-faced musings on quantum science, moral relativism, logic vs. instinct, race vs. culture, and the military's tendency to corrupt science in service of war. (That last bit, which gets examined at length in episode three, feels self-reflexive: one of the persistent gripes against Abrams' Trek was that it replaced Trek founder Gene Roddenberry's sense of wonder with Star Wars-style militarism.)
My tastes overlap quite a bit with his so I'm glad he liked it.

Show delivered so far as I knew and had confidence that it would. A lot of love put into this show that goes beyond just pretty visuals.

As I said before, CBS All Access has earned my money. It's worth paying for this show and I'm sorry for those who expect this quality for free. Maybe buy the Blu-Ray or something down the road.

It's more that everyone else gets it on Netflix.

It's clear to me after watching that season preview that I have no idea as to what is going to happen next and the trailers were pretty misleading (in a good way as to not spoil what happens next)

this show went to very unexpected places, not the kind of Star Trek I was expecting at all.

like that one guy said, I was expecting exploration

As someone with no real connection to Star Trek, I enjoyed the pilot. It seemed to set up the main conflict and Sasha er.. Michael stood out in the main role. I'm curious to see how it develops, but not curious enough to sign up for CBS All Access.

Maybe once the complete season is out and if the reviews are really good, I might give it a chance or try to find a free trial.

Finished both episodes. Loved it! Man that preview at the end of episode 2 really sold it. I'm in for an All Access sub. Stream quality was superb on the Roku app.

that was great the preview has me interested

so I take it we are going to see a lot of flashbacks from Micheal over the season, she is going to be holding a lot of grudges

Why are both the Captain and First Officer going on an dangerous away mission, by themselves?

This was also a regular occurrence in The Original Series and Enterprise. The Next Generation, Deep Space 9 and Voyager were better about only sending the First Officer on most away missions.

About halfway through he first episode I guesses I was wrong...

Then I knew it would Yeoh that gets Starked instead of Issacs.

Second episode was great. I'm super happy to have Star Trek back!

The episodes really seemed to have non-prime themes in that the events that occurred were similar to events in the new movies universe.

But, it also felt like Prime Trek at the same time. I felt like I was watching Enterprise at times.

Well regardless, I like it, and that season preview got me excited about what's to come.

I would bang a hot farmer!
The only thing I don't like about this so far is the look of the Klingons. It'll take a while for it to grow on me.

Edit: I'm just waiting for After Trek to start on Space in 10 minutes.

This is your first time watching Star Trek right? Lol

I watched plenty of Star Trek and I know this is a common trope on the franchise. I just thought things would be different in a Star Trek show in 2017.

well, stream crashed on my PS4 trying to return back from a commercial break. even after hard rebooting the system, still crashes every time I try and track back to where we were (it tries to play even more commercials after you track, I signed up for the commercial-less service by the way). Friends went ahead and went home, I might try and finish watching ep 2 on my computer, but am definitely cancelling immediately after that. CBS All Access is a disaster.

Hey that was pretty good!

So it seems pretty clear that
Michael blames herself for starting a war with the Klingons, but I don't see what would've played out differently if she hadn't assaulted her captain. Even if she hadn't killed that Klingon in the EV suit, the Klingons still lured Starfleet there to stir shit up.

The Klingons look weird. But whatever.
