Canadian Gaming Deals & Discussion 9: Looking for a Switch in Deals

So is Amazon just not doing SNES preorders or did I miss them?

They've never said they aren't doing it but it's pretty clear that they aren't doing preorders at this point.

Keep an eye out on Friday morning. Switches went up on Amazon around 9:00 am on launch day iirc. I remember ordering one from work.

So I guess my best bet for the SNES classic would be to show up early at Walmart on Friday morning?

I got a Switch that way on launch.

Anyone ever just buy this for yourself?

"Get a $10 Promotional Credit with the Purchase of $50 in Amazon Gift Cards"

Wondering if there is anything that will prevent you from applying the gift card to your account?

Is there a limit to this?

Let's say I bought $600 in Amazon gift cards? Would I get $120 in promotional credit?

After double up? Damn, though I guess it's expected. It's had a few $40 sales.

Sorry meant $20 before double, it was raining so typed fast.

It was $23 last week iirc. It's only a few bucks and I'm not gonna touch the game anyways so better to just get most of my money back first.

I dunno if this as targeted or not but I got a gaf ad for Shaw and there's a 1 year 60 dollar 150 mbps offer with no contract :

http://shop.shaw.ca/internetplans/?adid=alwaysonbaf17-int75-acq-bb-goog-v1-nat-st-sim-d

I had to look through my history because I couldn't find it with google

I signed up for this plan last month. I called to complain about how Telus' internet packages offered higher speeds for less cost and after I escalated the call to a Customer Retention person they offered it to me for a year. As usual, the first person I talked to said there was nothing they could do.

HOLY SHIT is it hot today. o_O 31C in Toronto. I was going to head out, but after eating at a local BK, I said FUCK IT and just headed back home.

Stay indoors guys, I don't recommend going out unless you HAVE to.

Didn't know how it was outside, it's cold in my office at work so I'm sitting with a heater on lol.

Gross. I'm coming to visit from Vancouver this weekend, and it damn well better hold that 17-20 degree weather that's currently forecasted.

So I was able to find out how many SNES Classics my local Walmart will have. I’m in Hamilton, and this one location will be getting 48 of them. So hopefully it’ll be like this for other locations in the country.

And if anybody wants the item # so they can ask their local Walmart let me know.

I forwent doing groceries yesterday because it was too hot, instead went today and it was even hotter lol Lucky for me it was only a 2 minute walk either way, and that was a couple hours ago. It's probably boiling right now.

May be amusing, but my favourite weather is overcast 18-25 degrees ;)

How early did you guys line up for NES classic/ switches?

Yeah, this weather is nothing compared to what I experienced in the Philippines.
I don't complain about Ontario heat at all any more. Perspective will do that to you.

How you did that? I'm curious about my local store.

I went to Canada's Wonderland yesterday. It was fun, but yeah the heat really drains yeah :( There's a couple more things I wouldn't have minded to do but it was just way too hot.

Question: This is the first time I've ever pre-ordered something online. For my SNES Classic that I got from Best Buy, is it reasonable to expect it on Friday? Or will I get it Monday?

The fuck, it's like saying iPhone 7 is still the best one with the iPhone 8 out.

One, the new model is probably better, KS9000 or whatever replaced the KS8000. And two, the Sony X900 series is better as well.

I can't recommend an expensive 4K TV over a cheaper but just as functional version. Especially with 8K TVs dropping for $10,000 in a few months. At this point I would just buy a functional 4K TV and wait for 8K in 5 years.

https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/1/16239250/sharp-8k-tv-ifa-aquos

Now that you’ve upgraded to a shiny new 4K TV, Sharp has revealed its latest screen to stoke your fear of missing out: a 70-inch Aquos 8K TV. That 8K (7,680 x 4,320) resolution is 16 times that of your old Full HD (1920 x 1080) TV. Sharp calls it “ultimate reality, with ultra-fine details even the naked eye cannot capture,” which doesn’t seem like a very good selling point.

Sharp plans to roll out the TV later this year in China and Japan, and then Taiwan in February 2018. Sharp is repurposing its 70-inch 8K TV as an 8K monitor (model LV-70X500E) for Europe, which will be on sale in March. Sharp hasn’t indicated how much its 8K models will cost yet but a source told the Nikkei Asian Review that they’ll start at about 1 million yen, or about $9,000.

While I agree a "functional" 4k is the way to go for those on a budget (eg import TCL P607for ~$750, or locally Vizio M for $800), 8K may not the best reason on its own. Going to require serious bandwidth for streaming, not to mention 5 years is a long time away.

Back to the TCL, my goodness it's a heck of a good value for gaming. $650 USD for a 55 inch low input lag, HDR, WCG.

The thing you'd need to consider with this position is how much 8k content is there going to be by the time 8k comes down to a reasonable price.

I just grabbed a 4k set a couple weeks ago, and not everything I'm watching on it has been in 4k, and I don't expect there to be a lot in the foreseeable future.

Additionally, most of the games I'm playing aren't rendered natively in 4k, like Uncharted: Lost Legacy and Horizon: Zero Dawn. I don't expect to get affordable hardware (both PC and consoles) that can reliably render native 4k games for awhile. I can't imagine how long it'll take before we get affordable hardware that's rendering games at a native 8k.

Any recommendations on go-to places to import a TCL from outside of crossing the border the old-fashioned way?

There is no way you guys will be able to tell the diff between 4k and 8k unless you go to huge tv sizes, probably like 70" or higher.

Unfortunately not. I'm looking into Best Buy (pick up) as I go through the terms and conditions of the geek squad extended warranty as it looks like it might be valid outside the US. Wonder if anyone here has experience with this?

I'm curious to know which one this is. I'm assuming it's the shit show on Upper James.

Moment when I see Upper James and Rymal Road I think to myself "Did I accidentally go into the Hamilton thread? ... wait, there is no Hamilton thread..."

I want to buy my sister Minecraft for the switch but she prefers games digitally...does anyone know where I can buy a digital code for the game online?

I know amazon.com sells the codes but not sure if theyre redeemable in Canada.
