Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Releases December 1st 2017

Anyone here pre-ordered the CE with the postcard set bonus from Amazon? It looked like they finally unblocked international shipping, but then I got this.

Up until yesterday I'd get a message telling me I couldn't have the order shipped internationally, but now it does let me select my address outside Japan. It gives me a process error when I select Amazon Global Priority Shipping though.

I never played the first xenoblade. I did play x however and thought it was ok. Kinda like a single player phantasy star online.

Should i get this game? I like heavy stories with great characters, backstories, social engagment between the cast, etc.

Well, I've warmed up to this game even though I have some issues with "Otaku-Bait" character designs like the one Pyra has. Anyway, It seems like this XC2 is a fully fledged experience with a complete narrative like the first Xenoblade with all the bells and whistles. Day one for me.
Sigh same

Perhaps one day Monolithsoft will remake XCX featuring a complete narrative, that has a definitive ending, that's faithful to Takahashi's original script for the game. Apparently he wrote a great deal of content for the script and a lot of it probably didn't make the cut.
I would settle for a remake of XCX in which the menus are legible tbh

To recap: buy the Pro Controller from the US with $15 import tax duties on top of $7 shipping fees, I get off 10€ cheaper still over buying it on AmazonDE with free shipping lol.

edit: oh, amazonDE is 85€, thought it was 89€ for some reason ...still ends up 4€ cheaper :D

This is for you then. The social links you had in X are a series staple, the non-X games are more story-driven.

On second thought, what's the point of random Blade resonance when there's S/L?

Because it saves the game state upon opening one. If there are multiple save slots, I guess you could cheese it, but it seems more hassle than its worth tbh and the game already has the right idea.

I think that a remake makes more sense considering that making a sequel to a Wii U game, that only reached a small audience, might be off the cards as it can alienate potential newcomers that didn't play XCX and, as such, might not make much business sense.

I don't know, I could see a port happening with some extras, but you're asking for more of the original story. We know that X has story left out and probably some left to tell, but depending on how that actually is and how it'd affect the game, I feel they might just prefer to make a new game, especially if they want to include a named protagonist (though I doubt that's you mean).

It may have been released on a console with a low install base, but if I remember right, it still did decently (feel free to correct me). I'm not sure how much that would change if it was on the Switch because Xenoblade is still a little bit of a niche series. Even so, the story in X is more like a string of major events besides the key character quests to advance the story. So it's fairly straight forward and could be summarized well enough if the sequel needs it. I don't think it would be like Kindgom Hearts where having one story relevant game you may not have played makes the sequels story hard to follow.

Not just guest artists, but also guest VAs. I dunno how the English dub is handling it, but the Japanese side is making it sound like all these rare blades have famous voices who aren't in the normal story cast.
Ok, after that i'm definitely not buying the game until the jp dub is available with english subs (one way or another).

I was actually quite surprised and happy to see that quote. I didn't/wasn't aware that Takahashi had written as much as he did. I confess that I never finished XC:X but did go into the spoiler thread to see what i was missing, and saw that a lot of people seemed to keep talking about how there was more to the game and story as you went on - though a lot of it was back-loaded.

It's interesting to hear that Takahashi has since moved on to this "boy-meets-girl" story, as he puts it, for XC:2. Is this a response to the fact that the development team didn't use as much of his material as he put together for XC:X...? Or just a change of pace, as he put it?

Regardless, looking forward to seeing how this will play out. I had chance to mull over in my head the possibilities that the game could have to serve as a direct sequel, although I'm aware that there have been some quotes that have outright said that they do not consider this game a direct sequel, but rather, more of a thematic sequel to XC -- how could this link up to the ending of the original XC?

(ending spoilers)
By the end of the first game, Shulk denounces the role of god and states that he wants a wordl without them. As the camera zooms out, we note that the world no longer has the Bionis and Mechonis, but instead has a wide ocean.

It's interesting to note that the current set-up of the game: 1) has Titans, which effectively serves as landmasses and replace the 'gods' we are familiar with from XC; and 2) takes place in the clouds, whereas the ending of XC decidedly takes place on a more 'normal' geographical arrangement with one landmass and a spread-out ocean.

As others have pointed out in this thread, the setup is quite similar to Baten Kaitos.

I'm wondering: supposing that we are seeing a direct sequel to XC, is the fact that SHulk asked for a world without gods resulting in the fact that there are several 'drivers' in existence in the world of XC2? Certainly, this would mean that Shulk's previous ability to wield the Monado has now become more widely spread across races and individuals. What's interesting, though, is that this has not necessarily removed the need for Titans to serve as floating islands and homes for the races that used to live, presumably, below the cloud sea.

I would imagine that, if there is any direct link, one of Rex's diving expeditions is going to eventually uncover a relic that explains what happened to the world post-the-ending of XC and resulted in the Titans arising and people moving to live above the clouds.

I imagine Nintendo probably said "We want this released in the first year of the NX" and he adjusted the scope accordingly. But then right now, it seems more story driven than 1 or X anyway, so...

Canadian GAF. I see BEST BUY has preorders up for Special Edition. Get em while you can!

No sign of controller yet.

Yay! Finally! Thank you for posting this and I'm glad I saw it when I did (before it sold out)! :D

Now... just need to get that CE of Monster Hunter World!

PO'd XC2 and FE special editions from best buy. Unsurprised they aren't sold out. Just didn't want to miss the boat on them like I did with Fates LE.

Thanks for this heads up!

I'm still debating whether or not I want to get this game brand new or not... I know i will be tempted, otherwise.

The LE and controller are up on Game's site in the UK to pre-order. £79.99 and £69.99 respectively. I pre-ordered the LE, but if I get the opportunity to switch to Nintendo's UK Store or Amazon I probably will. The art for the LE box is gorgeous, very minimal and classy, compared to the Steelbook art.

Canadians, EB Games online site has the special edition AND the controller listed on their site. But not available for preorder yet. Id have to imagine they will allow preorders to start soon. And this is the only Canadian retailer i seen with the controller listed thus far.

Just a heads up for people looking for online ordering options.

Well, pre-ordered both the Collector's Edition and the XC2 Pro Controller. Now I just need to buy a Switch. Sigh.

I didn't want to get one until it got cheaper but I just might have to this time. :/

Japanese CE with Amazon exclusive postcards is in stock with international shipping!

EDIT: If you previously placed an order with shipping to a proxy, now's the time to cancel and place a new order. AFAIK it is not possible to change an order with domestic shipping to international shipping.

I have sincere doubts that the Switch is going to get cheaper any time soon. You might see it go down a few dollars or at last get bundled with one or two games that you would really like, but until Nintendo announces a revision - which I don't see until at least 2019 - you should probably expect it to be selling at more or less the same price as it is now.

It's a good time to jump in, at least. Nintendo has certainly proven that it has the software to at least provide a very solid first year -- and the titles that have bene released thus far, and will be releasing soon, should prove to hold your interest into most of its second year, too.

Yeah, I canceled like 3 or 4 different orders trying to get the CE and the postcards over the past few days lol. I was worried I'd have to keep refreshing /B075LN6WMC/ for the next couple of months. My pre-orders are looking nice and tidy now.

This is pretty neat. Posted by Nintendo themselves.

Never fails to impress. I really do like the direction that the faces have gone in.

I'm actually (selfishly) hoping that the voice acting picks up as well, although I know that this is much less likely given the nature of recording work. I have no problem with the accents - I think Scottish accents are actually a really neat pick - but the actual 'acting' chops don't seem to be in this one.

In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter. I'm sure I will love the game and its characters with due time. I am sad to hear that the localization director that ran the show for the first XC is no longer around, as that was a genuinely impressive localization and voice acting tour de force in some respects.

You know, I really like the character designs for this game. Especially Pyra. But I can't help but be salty that Monolithsoft's first real "cel-shaded" game doesn't have Kunihiko Tanaka's character designs for the main characters. Maybe because I've just always wanted to see his style envisioned in 3D properly for once. >.<;

The improvements from the original reveal to now are great too. Can't wait to pick up this game in December, hopefully alongside a Switch.

How in the hell did they manage to make such an improvement in less than a year? I was one of those guys who actually liked the look before, but the difference of expression and art direction now is worlds apart

I mean they completely changed a few character designs within the final year of Xenoblade 1's development
