Killer Instinct Out Now on Steam!

Opening the Store app kicks off an OS update?

Well it's more like a chain reaction of things. Opening the store changes your Windows Update service to manual (or left at automatic), which in turn, checks for OS + software updates that you may or may not want. Then before you know it, you get a notification updates have been downloaded and ready to install. I like having some control over how I digest OS updates and KI on Windows Store requires a certain W10 build with updates enabled... so nah. :p

$40 is too much for any 4 year old game. I don't care how many patches or characters it got. Especially in this market today where there's so much quality to choose from and AAA games can be found for sub-$40 on preorders.

I guess let's give it a month or two and revisit this thread with Steamspy facts.

Pay $4.99 for your favorite character then and call it a day. Personally I think the F2P with a package for all the content if you want it is THE business model way forward for fighters. They're arcade based by nature so more devs should embrace that to boost the install base for DLC like KI and DOA5 are doing...MVCi would probably be performing a lot better if they had a full version alongside F2P like KI does.

This is the Supreme Edition with all of the clones (Shadow Jago, Killgore, Shin Hisako) and accessories (plus the figure colors) included? Seems odd that they're selling it for $40 on Steam when it costs way more for everything on W10. Either way, it's a good thing I waited on buying the game when I heard the Steam version was announced. I'll get this soon enough.

May I ask what the microtransactions are for if everything's already purchased? Is it just for speeding up accessory unlocks?

The Definitive Edition on W10 costs 40$, and includes literally everything this has with the exception of the skin packs.

And this one does NOT have the figure colours.

As you guessed it, microtransactions just speed things along but honestly I would be utterly shocked to find that anyone actually bought gold for anything it's pretty pointless. The customizations can all be unlocked simply by playing with the character, and you already now have all the colour/skin packs.

That, and buying packs of guardians/consumables in the Shadow Lords campaign, I imagine.

That's not an option on Steam version - it's an all-or-nothing deal.

You do not get figure colors.
Gold is used for packs in Shadow Lords, speed up color unlocks for characters and accessories, concept art and a bunch of profile stuff, shadow and mimic skins(colors with effects) and maybe Eagle's accessories.
You can also earn gold overtime

On one hand, I wanted F2P to just get the three characters I wanted to save some money.

On the other hand, I have been wanting this for a long time, and the team has put some really solid work into this title. I didn't want to have to buy an XB1 for one game, so I missed out on KI at launch. I didn't want to upgrade my laptop to Windows 10, so I missed out then. Not buying it now would just be an excuse.

Let's not forget that this game is made by a long-time GAF member and regular. Thanks for all you do, Keits!

Is anyone else going to be 100% new going into this? I would love a few regular sparring partners. My Steam ID is Karsticles.

I don't think you can really use that "it's old excuse" considering fighting games haven't really found success on Steam.

No free version I think was a bad idea.
That would've opened the gate for the most amount of new players.
Oh well. Hopefully I can find some ranked matches regardless.

Rather have the Windows store version because it is a Xbox Play Anywhere title.
but thats only worth something if you are Xbox person who has Win10

.... its worless fo rest of us and with Win10store being to it lighty huge mess... steam version is like godsent especially for people on older Windows

It really sucks that they're not granting Steam keys to UWP users. Their awful store doesn't work and when it does, it takes double the install space (which is already limited on my SSD).

I am, but it'll definitely be a bit before I buy this. Too much shit going on for me.

I'll add you anyway. If you see any odd Microsoft themed beverages, that's me.

never heard about the cat, apparently
If KI can do it what's with the Win10 Store/Steam games which can't talk to one another? Just highlights how they're clearly able to do it. This should be the standard.
Rise of Nations was just released for the Windows Store and Xbox Live and that has cross network play with Steam. So i'm sure there will be more to come, from Microsoft at least.

I thought KI was leading an initive for this to happen more

Re-core may come over, but GOW 1/4/5, State of Decay 2, Crackdown, H6 and many more will stay exclusive for the time being. It's makes sense for them perception wise.

Welp, i guess the windows store is so shit that they decided to put the game on steam to, you know, allow people to actually downlaod the game.

What is this?

Wait until a heavy hitter comes to Steam first before saying stuff like this.

None of MS's games that sold decent (sans GOW 4), haven't appeared on Steam yet (or ever).

I'll make a list
29 characters
Most have 3 accessory sets(with multiple colors) along with a retro costume with 3 accessories.
Arguably the best tutorial in a fighting game
Arcade mode for S1 characters
Story-Arcade hybrid mode for S2 characters
Shadow Lords: A xcom lite mode where you chose a team of three and over multiple playthroughs unlock items/Guardians(special buffs) and lore/backstory
20 unique stages(along with one shadow copy and training stage)
Each character has a unique theme you can select on any stage
Arguably the best online stability in a fighting game
Exhibition mode
Lobbies
Rank mode
A shadow Lab mode where you create an AI character based off recordings of your gameplay. People can challenge it and you can challenge anyone's shadow you want
Survival and Shadow survival mode
Online shadow lords mode where you can battle with all the broken stuff from Shadow Lords
Training mode
Shadow Lords and Shadow Lab sound pretty sweet.

I'd agree with you, if they put the F2P version on Steam. MS know what they're doing. They also don't put the "big" games on Steam either like Halo/Forza/Gears for a similar reason.

Does this include all future updates too or just everything included so far?

I see $29.99 right now as a launch special.
Everything included so far.

But tbh, I doubt there's going to be anything significant added to this game. Skin or colour packs at best.

You forgot one of the most important features :p

A: All XInput fight sticks work on Killer Instinct Steam version. Fight sticks that are D-Input are not currently supported by the Steam version, however, will work with the Xbox One and Windows 10 versions. Key note to this. Xbox One sticks will work with the Xbox & Windows version of KI, but not Steam.

Nope

Steam Input should have your back on this. You'll have to map your Arcade Stick / Controller yourself or use a community binding set. After that you are set. The worst you may have to deal with depending on what you are using, is button prompts not matching what you own, eg a PS labeled Arcade Stick

No free version is a disappointment. I honestly just want to get Maya. That's what I did for the W10 version.

Meh. I guess I'll wait for a Steam Sale.
