Wolfenstein and Doom? What are the current-gen AAA games it is getting?
Not without spotlighting context. The fact that so many people here are assuming this includes the Wii before realizing when it launched says as much.
revenue or units sold?
Thanks for clarification.
This gif make me feel anxious lol.

Also old ports and Sports games doesn't count too...Western third party? Wolfenstein 2, Doom, etc and this is only the start.
In before someone says Bethesda doesn't count...

Problem with comparing software sales on home consoles and handheld consoles is that historically handheld tie ratio is much lower than home console tie ratio. With the basis being a calendar year, the best comparisons are 3DS (launched in March) and GBA (launched in June).
IIRC, the GBA launch went really well hardware-wise, so it's still impressive to beat this "by a large margin", even if the GBA launch had three months fewer.
revenue or units sold?
Even though it launched in June, I'd argue the GBA is also a fair comparison.
I also guarantee you that if someone had stated eight months ago that Switch would have the best Nintendo launch calendar year, software-wise, in 22 years, that person would have been laughed at by most people. It really wasn't until BotW's stellar reviews that some people started realizing "hey, this might go better than I thought".
This also includes all software, not just first party releases. So, Switch is breaking Nintendo launch year records with almost zero third party support (yet). It's very impressive.

Lol.Aside from bethesda, this isn't really much better than the Wii U(talking about new games)
There is FIFA, those WWE and basketball games and...?
WiiU got Assassin's Creed 3 and 4, Batman Origins, FIFA13 and more.
But the comparison I'm making does include the Wii... "on pace"
Consumer spend. Units don't mean much due to pricing variability these days.
I'm fairly confident even time aligned Switch will be right up there with or exceed the other platforms. And this is just physical. Add digital and I'm very confident. Time will tell I guess.
Also worth noting GBC isn't really a new platform launch. It's a midcycle upgrade more akin to DSi, New 3DS or PS4 Pro. Also all it's 1998 games could be played on older GB systems so launch wise it definitely isn't a good comparison, although it did get native only games starting in the following year.1998
But it's pricey, has pricey peripherals and as a home console it's weak.

Then again Switch isn't following a traditional console pattern ...
What the hell is the guy on the left doing with his tongue lol

It's simply not the same game, despite being sold under the same title and using the same box art.
Exactly. It was all about BotW. I just never saw it as that killer app - I was actually really really worried that it might be mediocre, or poorly reviewed. Instead it was the consensus GotY, in March. The reception was deafening and rapturous (a 98 MC is unheard of these days), and if you're in any way into games it was hard to avoid or ignore. Everyone was talking about it. That single game changed the entire conversation about the Switch, I'm sure of it. Previews of the hardware itself had been pretty reserved, circumspect. "Wait and see". Zelda changed the tone of the discourse for good.
I mean, it's a great piece of kit. It's a good idea. But it's pricey, has pricey peripherals and as a home console it's weak. It wasn't a guaranteed slam dunk by any means. Zelda is the reason that there was breathless hype surrounding it from a week before launch to a month afterwards, why it immediately had a buzz of positive press, and from there that momentum just carried on. Since I didn't see Zelda being that kind of 'event game', I couldn't see the impact the Switch would have on the market.
Never been so happy to be wrong about a game as I was about Zelda. Iwata always talked about 'one game can change everything' and I really believe it was BotW that changed Nintendo's fortunes. Long may the good times continue.
Wii had a pretty amazing (full) year 1 too. Twilight Princess, Galaxy and Prime 3.Xenoblade, Zelda, and Mario all in the same year. Greatest launch year ever.
They've got a dozen million-selling IPs sitting in their back pocket waiting to be released.
This is just a warm-up.
Remember when a lot of posters said Switch would never get western AAA games? Good times. lol
Is this news really surprising with Golf Story being released today
Is this news really surprising with Golf Story being released today
I mean, he isn't wrong. If you take away DOOM, Wolfenstein 2, Skyrim, NBA 2K18, WWE 2K18, etc. etc. What does Switch really have? /s
Lol.
Well, if its sales were tracking near the Wii-U did then that would have been the case. The Switch is tracking much better than the Wii-U so naturally 3rd parties are coming back because they see investment potential with Nintendo again.
It does. But not the 7 week time frame it had vs 30 weeks so far of the Switch. That's worth highlighting specifically. But the comparison I'm making does include the Wii... "on pace"

this news is about sales of games at retail, so Golf Story is completely irrelevant
the really crazy thing is that this is true while Switch has barely any retail games and most of its games are eShop only
What the hell is the guy on the left doing with his tongue lol
Did you also not know you can use the bug-catching net in ALttP for the same purpose, and that it's actually more effective than the sword?Lol... I had no idea you could do this.
You really think that the Wii U had the same third party support and reception in the first 7 months as the Switch? Especially big names like Rockstar,Squarenix and Bethesda... Also, just wait for the next year E3, is going to be big for the Switch.I mean, he isn't wrong. Unfortunately they already need to bring back good quality FF for your sentence to work.SNES like levels again. Eh. Hope we get memorable RPGs during that era. Need more Atlus, NISA, and Falcom games. Ive given up on SE bringing back quality RPGs to Switch other than FF and DQ
They have mobile now too to make up for itShocking development!
6-7 months of Switch software sales is greater than that of:
6 weeks of WiiU sales
6 weeks of Wii sales
6 weeks of Gamecube sales
6 weeks of Nintendo DS sales
3 months of Nintendo 64 sales
4 and a half months of Virtual Boy sales
6 and a half months of Gameboy Advanced sales
9 months of Nintendo 3DS sales
The title of this thread makes it seem like the Switch has done something phenomenal when in reality the only impressive thing it's done is beat the 3DS, yet people are losing their minds. The Switch will do fine but it's going to be second this generation and will be lucky to beat the Wii's numbers all while Nintendo sacrificed their dedicated handheld market to achieve it. Wii+DS>Switch, WiiU+3DS~Switch.
