Totally agree!

BOTW, in any aspect, from lore to details, can't compare to D:OS2.

BOTW is playing some mechanics, but the story is weak, and I hate the game is just a mixture of little puzzle games, if you replace the open world map into levels, it also make sense. What's the meaning of different shrines? Strong connection? No. What's the story behind you complete a shrine? No. I soon got boring after I played 20+ hours into it... DLC gets boring very soon too as the mechanics don't change.

But for D:OS2 I can play again and again with different characters to experience the world full of lore and stories and details... And the co-op experience is amazing.

I don't see much upgrade from BOTW to other Zelda games. But in D:OS2, they just make every weak point so much better in both depth and numbers.

Divinity 2 story isn't good for a c-rpg neither the role play, you should know know that if you played other games in same genre. Zelda story being weak ? That's normal for an action rpg in general.

Divinity 2 has good combat but didn't improve since Divinity 1, everyone can do the same thing, every class can "teleport" none felt so far unique same for enemies. Don't get me wrong, I like Divinity 2 but it can't be my game of the year because the first was more refreshing and innovating. Here we've just the polished 2.0 version and damn I wish at least they hire Metzen from Blizzard. The story so far (I'm at Driftwood) don't connect all. In term of immersion and role play, Divinity 2 isn't good as an rpg for me so I threat it more like a dungeon crawler where I play just for the battle system.

22 hours in and I just want more @.@

Almost done with Driftwood / Graveyard cleaning (done with the dwarves thingie),
I'm delaying the second divine ability "grab" a little and it feels like the game is handling levels over which is ... kinda weird ? lvl 13 atm

I pretty much have to do blackpits and the remaining of the map but fuck, so much is happening while simply roaming around, I'm definitely going to not keep doing that but simply one quest at a time per zone on the map

Last rpg I enjoyed that much in terms of keeping the hook in was Tyranny :>

Are you speed running the game or something? Most people spend more than 30 hours in act 1 and still miss some content.

It's impossible to steal in the Driftwood marketplace, right? Otherwise I just wasted over 10k on skill books.

Luckily I managed to recoup some of my losses by robbing a beggar.

You can use an undead character, take his mask off, scaring the merchant off. They'll run somewhere more quiet. Get another character to talk to them which will freeze them in place, then you'll get the angle for pick pocketing.

Have to watch out for the guards nearby though.

I prefer to just go rob someone blind somewhere else in Driftwood, sell all their shit and use that to make purchases with my crime money.

Dark Souls is not difficult in the same way as D:OS2.

Souls games always give you options if you can't beat a particular boss. There are usually NPCs that you can summon to help you, or you can summon other players, which makes boss fights considerably easier. Even if you don't resort to summoning, you can always increase your stats by grinding more souls/blood echoes, which are for all intents and purposes an infinite resource. The game never stops you from progressing.

In Divinity: Original Sin 2, however, it is entirely possible, as a result of poor stat distribution, skill choices and lack of synergy, to end up in a state where a fight becomes practically impossible, without any means of making it easier or grinding for more xp, at which point your only option is to restart the game. The free respec option does alleviate this, but you don't gain access to it until act 2, which can be a good 20+ hours into the game.

TL;DR Comparing Divinity: Original Sin 2's difficulty to Dark Souls is intellectually lazy whataboutism.

So there are no random encounters in the game where you can build up/grind for levels/gold? Goes from story event to story event, besides sidequests?

No grinding, only hand crafted encounters. There's a shitload of exploration and quest xp, plus encounters that have nothing to do with any quest, plus you can murder anything you want for xp.

I really hope those that have had difficulties with fights then are just because they haven't done everything. And then you can go back and finish off any quests or do exploration XP to bring you up to be able to continue on. I don't have time to start over in a game. It's hard enough for me, timewise, to finish the game the first time through.

You never have to start over. People are having a tough time because the game is hard. Even at equal levels, most fights still require thought. There's an Explorer difficulty if you just wanna burn through things.

Don't worry about XP, if you explore enough, you'll be over-leveled anyway. I've been mostly at equal level with the enemies or even over-leveling them since the middle of Act 2. Not by a wide margin though, like 1 level above at most. Just keep in mind that if you find an encounter that's way above your level (1-2 levels), then you most probably took a wrong turn somewhere behind. Try another path.

Great to see that Larian can continue doing what they like. I assume they are probably at the point where they are even. I mean, it took Original Sin 1 months to reach 600K on Steam.

Even ? They're swiming in profit probably two days after launch. The 8 figure type of profit.

I'll give this a look down the line.

I got about 20 hours into the first one before getting bored with the story and humor.

I couldn't last more than 20 hours either in the first one, this is a very different beast. The story and writing is much better and captures you from the get go.

I really need to get my ass into gear and play through my copy of original sin, so I can get tucked into this masterpiece when I get back home from Malta. Not enough hours in the day damnit!

Llmmmaaaoooo. Damn son. That's fucked up, but funny as fuck though.

I bought the game, still ain't even installed it yet, still going through my current backlog. And I stopped half way through the first one because other games came out and such and haven't jumped back in since.

I didn't skip a single fight or quest, lol

Did ~40 quests so far (side quest ones, not counting the story). It's just that my group is kinda bonkers so combat doesn't really last long (and nope, no ranger involved)

Edit : after checking, I missed one quest in act 1 apparently

Ok, thanks.

It just sounded like from some of the other posts there weren't options to bring yourself up to around the enemies levels. As long as there is always plenty of quests to do for XP, then I am not too worried.

I have to get through the first Divinity Sin, first.

This game and Larian Studios deserve great success and recognition.

I've never had this much fun playing a game (since the first Divinity: Original Sin). Hours just melt away and I suddenly realize I have to go to bed.

A combination of a devious AI, environmental hazards and a vast array of skills lead to truly emergent gameplay. Every battle turns into a chess game: constructing an elaborate strategy and shrewdly pulling it off is so goddamn satisfying.

My personal GOTY so far!

I gave the original a solid 25 hours then lost interest, I'm 55 hours into this beast and fiending for more as I sit here in the Hairdressers waiting area....if you somewhat liked DOS, then DOS2 will be amazing for you, trust an addict.

Someone should make a thread to highlight the incredible reception this game has received so it isn't hidden away in a review thread for a game a lot of people (unfortunately) won't be paying attention to. We are looking at one of the highest rated RPGs of all time here.

It's a PC only game. It will be ignored by most of GAF anyway

I doubt the game's going to be this highly rated on consoles.

Why is that?

From what I have seen, Divinity Sin has reviewed very well on consoles. The reviews have stated it transfers very well (to console). I don't see why Divinity Sin II would be any different.

Damn it's hard to resist the impulse the buy this after these glowing reviews. I don't really have money or even time though (finishing school). Well maybe during christmas time.

Yeah, I was hoping someone would do that as well.

I doubt the game's going to be this highly rated on consoles.

The last one got 88 for it's PS4 port, from 95 for the PC version of the EE. That's a drop, but still a great score.

DOS PC (Classic) is 89 while EE PS4 88.

EE PC only got like 5 reviews so they're not really comparable.

The first game I played from Larian was Divinity 2: Eco Draconis. It was hanky but incredibly fun. I started to really pay attention to them after they released dragon commander (which I loved).

I'm so happy that they're finding success, they truly deserve it, their games are always so unique and full of personality.

Comes to consoles later like the first one I think. Post your specs and people should be able to help guide you.

Ill look up see what like when I get home from work. I may wait and get it on console instead.

May see about the first one though, hopefully laptop can run that not problem.

So. 3rd best game of 2017 by metascore,

Best PC Game of 2017
JcnXFjR.png

7th place in the ALL TIME TOP 10 games on PC with highest metascore
m7Lq36c.png

Also highest metascore for an RPG in the last 6 years, both Skyrim and Mass Effect 2 are sitting at 96 Xbox 360 version.

I'd argue that chart (if we were to give it authority to decide such things) would make it the second best game of 2017 -- what's ahead of it is one game.

True.

I bought a ~$550 laptop a few weeks ago mostly for work, it has 8gb ram, i5, 960m (i think thats the right one), and it runs fine on low settings.

I think that laptop would be able to run it on medium or even high settings at 30fps. Unless if you're only settling for 60fps.

Oh yes, you are right, but probably Super Mario Odyssey will take the 2nd or 1st spot and Divinity OS2 the 3rd one.
