Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen PS4/XB1 |OT| They're master ports all, you can't go wrong

I'm playing this through again for the first time since 2013, when DA first came out. Obviously this is just a next gen port, but man the experience feels so clean and polished. The combat almost feels completely different because of the smooth fps. The visuals also seem to be much cleaner, the textures are clearly outdated and old looking but the lighting seems to be a great step up.

I can't wait to pour another 100+ hours into this masterpiece!

Contacted Shopto yesterday and they said they're getting more copies tomorrow (Thursday), also got charged and a dispatch email from them today so they could have them now?

Cheers. They put their price up a pound but it's still cheap for next day delivery.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Damnit, I thought my avatar looked great in the creator, then I get into some cutscenes and play about 3 hours and realize I created a monster I can't stand to look at.

Now debating restarting or not...:(

I did the same. Humongous chin. Restarted.

While this game makes you stick with quests results and such for that particular playthrough, your characters are quite malleable. There is a barber shop in Gran Soren that can give you plenty of customizing options and a merchant in the tent in the encampment, where you get the scene of the pawn legion swearing allegiance to you, sells various character editing options/items, culminating in an unlimited use full re-creation item once you've completed the story once around.

Any good video comparisons of the last gen copy vs the port? Patiently waiting a day or two for my copy now.

I only ever played through DD once and loved it. I got Dark Arisen (and prepare to slap me) I never really played much of it. So I guess with getting this port I'm partly getting a "new game".

Absolutely fine so far. I've played for maybe 3-4 hours and I haven't noticed any substantial drops in framerate, even during combat with multiple enemies and spells going off.

I've had a stutter or two for a fraction of a second in very rare instances, but I'm pretty sure it's been 30fps locked 99.9% of the time.

Its fine, 100% better than PS3.

Thanks, will open my copy when I get home today.

The innkeeper in Gran Soren.

Yup. There's also an item in there which is basically useless (
unless you're a dapper 19th century English gent or the penquin from Batman - it's a monocle
) which you can sell for 300,000 coins. Nice for a bit of an early money boost.

Btw to everyone, check your storage asap for some armour items that really good.
Yup, noticed it last night. Is it a preorder bonus or something?

Games runs a lot smoother than I remembered it. Although it's 30 fps, it's a pretty consistent 30 vs ps3 where the game must of had lots of drops.

Guys,

Some armour slots let you equip 1 clothing piece and 1 armour piece over the clothing.

I keep seeing half naked pawns in rental, and not the intentional slutty look kind.

I totally forgot about the bonus items. I think that's a holdover from when they released it on PC, since I don't remember them on PS3.

You can probably access your storage right away from the inn at Cassardis, though I don't know if the items will show up yet. I haven't even gone to Gran Soren yet, so maybe I'll check tonight.

I didn't know about the bonus items, so I bought some armor at the fort. Bought some stuff including metal greaves, but didn't have enough to get pants. Had to go pantless for my next battle, but my dude looked good doing it!

There's some extra items available as soon as you start and others are unavailable until you reach Gran Soren, it seems.

I did notice quite a few pawns with undergarments with like a robe over top at the encampment. I remember there being a lot of half-naked pawns last gen, even high-level ones. But these seem to be either people don't realize or don't have enough gold to get them some basics until they find more interesting clothes.

My main pawn was like that for a while on the PS3, before I found a decent pair of pants. I didn't use the silk lingerie stuff though.

Remember the metal armor that looked kind of interesting for a male but turned into a metal bikini for a female? Pretty ridiculous, though I guess you could use it to make a character from an 80's heavy metal cartoon.

Oh, I know, this is the third time I've bought the game. :D

I couldn't bear looking at that tumescent chin one iota longer. Plus, I'm a serial restarter.

Not far off, actually.

I'm sad.
My copy was supposed to be here today, but it still says "out for delivery". Since it's 7 pm now, i gave up hope.

Since this came out after the PC version, are there any improvements/additions? Or should I stick to PC ver?

Is the ring of perseverance essentially for faster levelling?

This seems like a pretty good video for new characters to follow to "honestly" cheat the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evon6YpUcMA

Not really much different than low-level loot runs in the Souls series for things that are supposed to be obtained a bit later. As I said above I only really played the base game, I don't know much about Bitterblack Isle. I'm sure there is other loot you can do "death runs" to get early on.

How is the performance on PS4? I haven't seen anyone screaming, so I assume it's OK?

Better than I expected. Only a few hours in, but loadtimes are faster than your ability to read the loadscreen tooltips, the framerate is perfectly smooth, the visual clarity is sharp. Servers are working as intended(grabbing online Pawns on day 1 worked just fine). It's good stuff on my PS4 Pro.

First day and I got a lot of summonst for my pawn (yeah, I'm a fucking idiot and bought this for the friggin 4th time, I kind of hate myself).

Got more than enough RC for a character recreate ticket (I also got the huge chin issue lol). Hope it stays this way.

bloody hell. i've died and lost about an hour of open world progression twice now.

once more into the breach..

i lost like 4 hours of gameplay one time on PS3. yeah the game pretty much never autosaves if you're just exploring and not doing questlines. game is so fun. i probably would have quit forever if it wasn’t lol.

PSA: Don’t forget to manual save folks!

Loving the game so far (4 hours in) - bought due to the feedback in this thread. My CaC looks like Norman Reedus.

I've played this game for 30 hours on Steam before giving up. It may be because I insisted on playing it on hard mode from the start, and had to rely on the pawns to kill strong enemies for me, which was kinda lame.

I also found the leveling up system dumb, since I wanted to play Magic Archer but according to the internet playing as that class leveled up the wrong stats for that class...

Okay, quick update about my experiences and adventures so far:

1. I still can't get the hotkey function to work. I can get items and the lantern keyed to the direction buttons with no problem, but activating with L1 or R1 + direction buttons just gives the standard pawn commands. Pressing any other combination of buttons produces nothing. So I'm either being obtuse or this is broken. You can find the hotkey instructions in the manual in the main menu. If someone figures this out, it'll be such a qol improvement.

2. My pawn will be showing as lvl 11 still because I'm waiting for my friend to hire her. I don't want her to be over-levelled for him. The price for getting the game four days early. She's currently level 26, Warrior. I'll update when she's uploaded to the server again. If anyone is looking for a lvl 11 Warrior, she has the moxy to help you. She's been a beast for me.

My adventures:

We fought the bandits at Manamia Trail and died countless times at lvl 13 or so, I think? It was a bloodbath for us but victory was achieved and it felt great. Then we took on bandits and a cyclops using our cunning and eventually won. We danced with a
golem
from late evening and all night, till we succeeded in early morning. That was a great fight, and we truly felt like we were the champions that Gransys needs.

Today we gave the three
ogres
at the
quarry[/yspoiler] a thrashing, thanks to one particular Assassin bow skill that gave us the edge we needed.

Where are we in the story? We've gotten to Gran Soren with the
Hydra's head
. From fisher woman to blooded adventurer, I feel we are now worthy to hold the title of Arisen.

A question: two Bashful Nails on my Warrior pawn, or one and a Ogres Bone? She has no charge skills.

The Arisen: early level:

Did you try L1 + R1 instead of one or the other?

Your not suppose to start on hard, that's normally for new game +.

You also don't have to pay attention to the leveling system unless your seriously interested in min/maxing your character.

Just play the game with whatever vocation you want.

That is interesting, do i have to level certain stats to achieve the class i want?

If I understand it correctly, the class you play defines the stat upgrades when you level up.

I see, maybe I should try again on normal mode.

I'm going to need some serious help with the BBI bosses soon, so if you would please please please add me as a friend on PSN: ike7779 -- or if just want to use my pawn:

Account Name: ike7779
Platform: PS4
Pawn name: Peep
Pawn level: 38
Pawn vocation: Sorceress

She's pretty jacked for level 38, 2 third tier elemental buffs already thanks to some lucky drops in Bitterblack.

I wonder if PS4 would be the only version no one will bother to save-file hacking/mod stats? That would be a good thing, people would have to work to get their rents or at least no shortcuts to multiple popular builds across accounts. I don't think it's a thing on PS4, even though it's possible in a few scenarios.
