Latest Xbox One Update releases to Insiders Today (Fluent Design)

Is there a way to have the vertical friends list be displayed automatically in the people tab? I got the update and noticed that there are just a few things that require 1 or 2 more button presses, which is the opposite of what I was hoping for. Same thing with the audio mix.

I do like how snappy it feels and the aesthetic is definitely improved. The 3 suggested tabs on the home screen are already a complete waste - have they said anything about those?

Has anybody else had party issues (More than likely playing destiny 2) where at times voices get cut off for no reason?

Yes and it’s happening with FIFA too

Something is def up because everything is fine as soon as I go back to home page!!!

What is your system version? I am in alpha ring, but i cant see this option.

The 5 o'clock update seems to have taken it away. 10.0.16299.3006 (1710.170928-1930)

It was there yesterday.

Fixed it by shutting down then restarting.
Did this several times with zero success

However when my Xbox is online navigation of pins works flawlessly

The issue only occurs when the XB1 is offline (which is most of the time for me since I only play single player games and have no desire to download 15gb online updates wasting finite space)

This is the glitchiest build I've ever seen. Hangs when trying to access apps and even Home, keep getting the error message that its taking too long to start.

Hope they push out another update quickly.

Anyone else having issues trying to download anything in the ready to install area? Tried installing cuphead but hitting the install option does nothing. Tried random other games and they won’t initiate the download either.

Yeah been killing me.
Reported it already.

I managed to get things to forward to the queue by persistently clicking the Install...like maybe 5 or 6 times then it gets pushed forward.

The Gold/GamePass flyout from the Guide is a nice addition.

Just did the quest for that....and ohh man thats gotta be my favorite feature right now.

I just dont have anything on Gamepass i want...EA Access looks more attractive right now...maybe theyll put a flyout for that too if you are a member.

well I'll be damned, this is the first update since the launch dash where switching tab is actually fast and fluid. and the store can almost be considered fast now.

just gotta hope it won't change again with a new preview build, wouldn't be the first time :/

The Gold/GamePass flyout from the Guide is a nice addition.

It's pretty great. It's such an easy way to be sure you're claiming you GwG games.

The new guide seems really flexible so hopefully they make it customizable where we can set what tab it opens up to or something.

why does my kinect have LESS functionality?
I did buy it on launch

Because Microsoft realized it was a mistake and should have focused on making the best controller experience first and foremost..

The only things I use my Kinect for are power and switching between apps/games.

Also, I'm guessing they're looking at usage across all consoles connected to Live and seeing what are the most used commands and essentially working around those.

My dash is super wonky right now.
Its like its taking a million inputs from the controller so it skips around whenever i want to select somethng and when i press A to launch pretty much anything its a gamble as to whether it will start on not.

^Gif is not in fast forward, thats exactly what it looks like when i use the dash.

Just to follow up on my post from before.

Looks like the latest Alpha fixed the fast forward Dashboard.

I really wonder what goes wrong causing the fast forward dash.

If you hold down the A button and then move the cursor around, it then moves really fast like this. Whats causing it from going this fast without holding A, i have no idea.

I've known about the hold-up for crack speed for awhile now. I can't remember if I reported it. Wonder what causes it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did, but that would be a big mistake IMO. Focusing on features that people use most is just improving what already works. Maybe (probably) some of the commands are less used because they're less reliable, and they are the ones that need the most attention.
Using user statistics to define their priorities is a self-reinforcing method that can only reduce the general experience to the common denominator and cut down any improvement.

History might repeat itself. With Battlefront 1, I coudln't play the "Beta" without heavy performance issues because of the Dashboard at that time. This year, pretty much the same deal, if they don't fix the party issues that cause screenfreezes, when you are in a party.

Hope for a patch tonight... :(

After getting fed up with the party issues in the last few Alpha builds, I was finally able to rollback to the current release OS tonight. Man, I missed it.

Yes, the new design is noticeable snappier, but its nice to go back to the current build where the info you want isn't nested in a submenu. And while the new design is cleaner, its only because they hide more from you. Going back to the current OS drives that point home.

I'm gonna miss it when its gone for good in a month or so.

I'm not even in a party and experiencing terrible slowdowns/screen freezes while playing Battlefront II Beta, It is almost unplayable. Hoping for a new alpha before this weekend

It seems like inputs are always firing regardless of another button being pressed, there's no controller debounce, and there's no inputs set to cancel each other.

Try holding both bumpers on the main screen, lol.

New update tonight. Looks like they fixed the bug they found the other day that delayed the October 2nd update

HOW TO GET IT
• If your console is in Instant-On mode and you have been selected to receive the update, it will download and install the update and reboot to standby.
• NOTE: Once the update is available to you, you can manually begin the update by launching the Guide and navigating to All Settings > System > Updates.
• If your console hasn’t downloaded and installed the update by 1:00 AM PDT 10/6/2017 (8:00AM GMT 6/10), you will be prompted to do so at that time.
• NOTE: This update has a shorter than usual amount of time before it becomes mandatory.

DETAILS
OS version released: rs3_release_xbox_dev_1710.171003-1002
Available: 6:00PM PDT 10/5 (1:00AM GMT 6/10)

NEW FEATURES:
• Download 4K Game Content
We’ve added a great new setting that’ll help you get ready for Xbox One X by downloading available 4K game content ahead of time. Download 4K content on your external games & apps storage device and plug the device into your Xbox One X to play right away! If you don’t have an external storage device, you can also download 4K game content directly to your current console, then transfer your games & apps to your Xbox One X using network transfer to get started faster.
NOTE: This feature was enabled via live setting and is currently available without downloading this system update.

• Backup Settings
Streamline setup on a new console by backing up your account and key system settings to an external games & apps storage device. Plug the storage device in your new console before setting up to transfer your backed up settings. To access these features, open the Guide and navigate to System > Settings > System > Backup & transfer.
NOTE: This feature was enabled via live setting and is currently available without downloading this system update.

Phew!

Left it updating over night and it was still stuck on 66% after spending a bit of time on the Xbox forums I found this handy wee fix.

Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.
Wait 30 seconds, then plug the power cord back in.

Press and hold the BIND button (located on the left side of the console) and the EJECT button (located on the front of the console), and then press the Xbox button on the console.

Continue holding the BIND and EJECT buttons for 10-15 seconds.
Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the BIND and EJECT buttons after the second power-up tone.

The console should power up and take you directly to the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter.

From there I was able to do a roll back and reset the console but keep all my games, app and settings.

Very fucking cool and I'm also mightily relieved!

how do you know if its been downloaded

The game goes from 67 GB to 95 GB.

Also, in Game & Apps, go over Forza 7, then hold LB + RB and press Back, it will open a popup showing assets downloaded for this game, it should show "Xbox-Scorpio;" and "X;", along with "Xbox-Durango;" which is the base game.

My doesn't do that, it flips out - when you mean press back you mean 'B' or?

I try that and it just goes back to the dashboard.

EDIT: hang, on I'm a tool - sorted it now.

I've had that happen once with an update. Very scary the first time it happens. Glad that Microsoft built in a fail-safe in case an update failed.

For those in the beta build, do you think the new dash will be ready for the masses in time for the Xbox One X launch or at least a week before? We have 30 days until the Xbox One X comes out and based on what I am reading over the last few pages it seems like this latest dash is still full of issues and challenge. I would assume they want this out at least a week or 2 before the new system comes out, but will it be ready?

The last few patches actually resolved a lot of issues.

It will probably be ready pretty soon. They are already including a tutorial on how to use the new Home Screen in the latest build and on console launch.

Based on previous betas, the last few patches before it goes live usually fixes all the major problems. I remember last time a week before it was to go live it was buggy as hell but in just a few days they fixed everything.
