Highly offensive to the anthem!!!

When a baseball team wins a postseason series, there’s a good chance the clubhouse celebration is going to be wet and wild. The Houston Astros proved no different Monday when they knocked out the Boston Red Sox and won the American League Division Series.

Their celebration after a 5-4 win at Fenway Park just came with an extra dose of the American flag and near nudity. That’s because outfielder Josh Reddick — who had the go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning — stripped down to his American flag Speedo and let his teammates shower him with champagne.

Hmm. IDK man. I feel like I see dudes in american flag speedos from time to time. I think it's gonna be alright here.

It's not something you will catch me doing. I don't think if he was black or asian it would really matter IMHO.

I mean I can pretty safely say he's not doing it as some kind of political statement, but because it's funny.

Despite displays of this nature pretty clearly going against the code of conduct regarding Ol' Glory, late stage capitalism and consumerism is the most patriotic thing in America so turning the flag into endless products is totally fine.

If we could find a way to commodify kneeling for the anthem, we could finally get all Americans on board.

American flag apparel is largely seen as patriotic so I don't get this thread.

What's offensive is having first round win celebrations.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
Celebrating with scuba masks for winning the fucking ALDS... smh

Lol remember the gymnastics girl whom didn't not celebrate correctly after she won at the Olympics. Guess what she is not white

It's weird, I can't really think of much more that's disrespectful to the symbol of a country than having it in constant contact with your sweaty undercarriage and then raucously celebrating near-nude wearing it in a literal shower of alcohol.
Like, there's all those people who will basically go ballistic if somebody steps on a flag, but here's someone literally rubbing it on his ass for several hours, and...nothing?

The people being "disrespectful" are the wrong color, I guess, and that can't be allowed.

The point is no one cares about the flag. The backlash to the kneeling protest is about keeping black people oppressed.

I have no idea who the baseball player is, or what the context is, but no one objected when this guy did it...

I can't believe I'm even having such a specific thought about this topic, but here we are.

That one doesn't bother me because it's not "an American flag" so much as it's "a design that references the design of the flag."
That MLB player's Speedo is literally just "an american flag" in a tighty-whities cut.

If it's "disrespectful" to "the flag" to kneel quietly while everybody's singing a song to it, it should be "disrespectful" to dance around in a waterfall of shitty beer while rubbing said flag all over your junk, taint and ass.

Apparently that's where I draw the line on American flag undergarments.

It's a reaction to Trump's attacks on black NFL players saying they are disrespecting the flag by kneeling. This guy is wearing the flag as underwear and spraying alcohol on it.

I think it's just odd to celebrate a first round win this much. Also, it's not an actual US Flag so it doesn't matter. Are we supposed to get upset when someone doesn't properly respect a toothpick with a tiny fake American flag connected to it?

He's white so it's cool.

In this case it's not about race. The patriotic type hypocritically think that wrapping yourself in American flag merchandise is one of the highest acts of patriotism.

There's actually a code for the american flag and american flag merchandise is supposed to be taboo. Never really held, but w/e.

Isn't the making of something with the flag on it already offensive?

Someone posted a law text couple of days ago.

Disgusting how can they disrespect the American military members who died for this country. They are literally shoving there dicks at the brave people who sacrificed, died and served for America.

Oh, it was a white guy, it's fine, thought it was a black man.

While it would be fun to pile in on the "GOTCHA!", isn't that just an American Flag print and not an actual American Flag?

Don't get me wrong, national media and republicans won't care because he's white, but this isn't nearly the same thing as kneeling during a ceremony for the country.
I support players kneeling during the national anthem. It's their right.

Actually, according to the official flag code, this is actually an infraction and kneeling isn't. Flag prints disrespect the flag, officially.

(i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard.
(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform.

I assume Cornell knows a little about law, and trust the source.

Well he isn't a bad looking stripper I guess. And I'm sure those seedy politicians in Congress and the White house (especially Trump) saw far worse on women stripping. So ... maybe they just think this is how you are supposed to honour the US flag :p.

By giving a nice little wet striptease while a congressman makes it "rain" on you. Don't make the US President rain on you though, we all know what that means and they got proof of that meaning in Russia :p.
