The Switch is my first Nintendo console and I had the most fun on it this year (well maybe outside of Overwatch on PC). BotW and Rabbids/Mario are both incredibly good games. Especially Zelda was mind blowing. Can’t wait for Mario. Super pumped for my first mainline Mario console game. (Never played even the first Mario games outside of a few levels of SMB at a friend when I was a kid)
This is a neat perspective to hear. :)

Which was a 10/10 to most people here.

Bullshit. If that was true that game would've won GAF's 2011 GOTY Award and it didnt. I still cant believe that that game got a 10 in many places. It stands for everything opposite to what BotW ended up doing that made it such a critical and commercial success to the likes SS never had a chance.

In the shadow of BOTW, few Zelda games survive. Zelda 1, LTTP, OOT / Majora, Wind Waker are the only ones that even come close to surviving IMO.

yeah like skyward sword right ?

Holy shit you're right, 6 years ago they gave a 10 to a game that didn't deserve it to most people, pack it up folks, nothing to see here, we can ignore any and every 10 this publication gives out for the rest of time. I guess we'll have to rely on publications that have only ever given 10's to games that the majority agrees deserve it, shouldn't be too hard to find one of those!

I can't believe people engaged on an obvious troll for almost 6 pages. And it wasn't even about Mario. Whoever does the review thread need to put on a disclaimer to not talk about Zelda.

come on guys no need to be so tense

what I meant but this kind of (clumsy I admit) post is that a 10 can mean anything and could be a really unpopular opinion on the long run. I like Skyward Sword too but let's not forget it disappointed a lot of people and the same could happen for Odyssey which I hope it's not the case.

Two perfect games from Nintendo in one year, but Gaf's GOTY will still be Horizon. BotW and Odyssey will split the votes of Nintendo gamers but rest will vote for Horizon. No idea what PC crowd could crown as GOTY.

As a person who played both (Zelda & Horizon): Horizon is not even on my current top 10 2017 list.

This thread is proof that an EDGE 10 still matters. It's still the only review outlet out there with a constant editorial line in 20+ years.

that was fast, thought the review code just went out 1-2 days ago? guess they got theirs earlier.

either way, insane hype. 90% of their 10/10s have been well deserved, and from everything I've seen about this game, it screams quality and fun.

I'm pretty impressed that you've missed the multitude of PUBG threads and posts
It's Divinity OS2

All this tells me is that we should do Alternative vote

Haven't been paying attention to not spoil myself.... but I hear there is something like Kirin seeds in this that we collect. Is this gonna be a more bloated open Mario?

Wow, the negativity in this thread! This is the opinion of 1 publication! On the whole their 10 scores have been pretty accurate.

Looking forward to this game!

Not a bad start, I might keep my preorder.

I wonder how close to Zelda's 97 score this will end up. In any case what an amazing year for Nintendo this is turning out to be.

A lot of people dismiss Skyward Sword because of the motion controls it had.

When you dealt with it, it was a wonderful game with some of the best dungeons in the series.

It deserved the 10/10 imo, the ending was fucking good, too.

I'd argue the motion controls don't need to be "dealt" with at all. They're great.

I'm actually betting it'll wind up higher, if only because BotW had some very divisive issues that we heard about pre-release (weapons breaking, little story, 4 dungeons) and we haven't heard anything at all similar about Odyssey.

I'm very curious about the negatives that reviewers will focus on, and if there will be large sticking points that many reviewers complain about. Because so far there's nothing I can think of that might fit that.

Aside from the games that I haven't played on that list (Bayonetta), I can't disagree with it. I'm telling you folks, now that switches are actually on shelves you should grab one now before the holiday's hit.

I'd be with you - it wasn't the controls that killed it for me. It was the insane repetitive bullshit at the end where I was forced to walk through the same environments 2-3x in order to finish that dropped it way down for me.

I'll also give a nod to tadtones, as I have several friends that wanted to kill themselves after that while trying to play the game. Again, I don't feel the same but there were enough complaints where the discussion was warranted.

When you look at BOTW though - any complaints are outside of gameplay typically. Story depth / dungeon depth / construction. All valid complaints but the core of the game is so good they are nothing to me, at least.

No lies detected. 3D World was the most fun I had with a Mario game since... Well, Super Mario World. Only slight flaw is that the initial worlds are a bit on the easy side.

The trilogy of Galaxy 1, Galaxy 2 and 3D World is one of the best examples of nearly flawless video gaming, in my opinion.

In fact, I was originally a bit worried that being more open would cause Odyssey to lack the tight gameplay and platforming of those games. But my fears have been alleviated a bit after seeing more footage, like what we saw at the Nintendo World Championship.

... Also, I just played it an hour ago and it feels fantastic.

yeah no amount of backlash will keep skyward sword from being a great game

some of the best dungeons in the series, enemy encounters were great because of the motion controls, the overworld being dungeon-like was really cool, the story and presentation was amazing, yeah. great game. so many feels towards the end. I don't care how annoying the pop up stuff was with Fi she was a great character in terms of the story.

It was extremely tedious though. I struggled to finish the game, it's definitely a weak entry and should no way get 10s.

I don't read reviews for flagship Nintendo games, especially Mario, what's the point I know it's going to be great.

We both agree on this, mate. The backtracking quests near the end game were shit, I didn't like those at all.

However I still loved the overall experience in the end, while these quest were not enjoyable to me, they didn't deter my opinion on the game. I felt fulfilled when I reached the credits. :)
