PAL Charts - Week 40, 2017

Expecting GTS to open above 160k atleast. 20k GTS PS4 bundle sales.

Then I look forward to the slew of "bomba" threads in a couple of weeks if these are peoples' honest expectations.

It's not getting anywhere close to that so you may as well all get it out of your system now.

Glad to see FIFA's down after the price hike. Looks like EA are gonna be overcharging for Battlefront too based on the preorder prices.

Lego Worlds at number 10 from the release on Switch. The value price, Minecraft gameplay and universal appeal of Lego might give this game legs.

I'm predicting a lot of talk about digital sales when it comes to GTS because of the demo.

Haven't had enough time with it myself. Is there any pulls towards the digital version in the demo?

Progress only carrying over digitally, links to the pre-order store page etc?

I cant say for sure, but the GTS demo is like 43GB large. I assume that it contains the whole game, and buying the digital version will simply unlock the full game (saves time and bandwidth, not having to download the game again).

Perhaps not needing to reinstall the game. Currently there are no links to buying the game from within the game but I guess once the demo is over and you still have it installed and you launch it, there will be a "please buy now"-option.

It might do half that. Maybe closer to 50-60k.

No way. No game is tied to PlayStation like Gran Turismo, it's there since the first iteration. It always sold amazingly well and was always the best selling exclusive for the platform IIRC. It would be exceptionally bad if it would do 60k.

6 opened in that ballpark and went on to sell 5 million+ right ? That wouldn't be too bad at all for Sport imo.

I was expecting GT to be in Amazon's yearly chart by now, but no luck so far.
For reference, Mario Odyssey is at 14, COD WWII PS4 is at 30, 68 for Xbone.
Orders being split between a similarly priced steelbook and normal versions won't help that though.

I don't know if "not too bad" is something Sony wants to have attached to Gran Turismo.

At this point, Sony has to first hope it doesn't decline from 6. Selling around 6 is still a bad result though.

However, at this point, the chances of Sport not heavily under performing versus 5 are all but slim. It's no longer a top dog Sony franchise.

Naughty Dog came and ate PDs lunch.

And you say that without knowing any numbers, ignoring that sales on the Nintendo eShop have been relatively low compared to retail sales, and while also ignoring that retail versions are cheaper.

But I predicted this already. Now that it's clear that stock at retailers isn't the issue for the sales performance, the game must have done well digitally 🙄

Do you have any figures for the eShop since the Switch launch? I keep seeing some say that Nintendo's digital sales are lower than PS4/X1 but haven't seen the figures. Not arguing that they are wrong, just curious.

This is the latest data we have:

It would come as a surprise if the share was much bigger on Switch.

Just wondering, why do you expect 160k at minimum? GT6 opened at 55k, and that was at a time when digital sales were weaker than they are today. Gran Turismo Sports isnt a numbered title either. Both Forza 7 and Project Cars 2 are also noticeable down from their previous games. I would be really surprised if GTS leads to a lot of interest in this genre again.

Its not like Sony (or whatever publisher it might be) can decide this though. I mean, if the interest in a certain game serie has declined, sales will also be affected regardless how good the games are.

Yes.

+ even if you didn't install the demo, there're promoted links in activity feed and PS Store LiveArea view.

The biggest releases of week 41, 2017 are Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War and The Evil Within 2.

This will likely be another week of sequels underperforming (at retail at least) but The Evil Within 2 will be the game to suffer more. The first entry had a mixed reception and there was much bigger public awareness at the time of release. There weren't many new titles for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and it was Shinji Mikami's grand return to survival horror, The game had an excellent debut selling around 60,000 units during its launch week.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor sold around 100,000 units.

Crash seems a big hit in Nordic region. How big is the Nordic market? And is there any significance of having a place in top 10?

I think not being a numbered gran turismo is going to hurt it, that and the whole driving sim genera seems to be on a downward trend of late. This won't sell aswell as 6 imho.

Not being numbered shouldn't matter much when 6 came out 4 years ago. I don't see people skipping Sport and waiting for a numbered one when 6 was so long ago.

This applied to GT5 Prologue too, coming out 4 years after 4, but not quite the same situation with PS4 being the console with the longest ever life before release of its first GT title (except for PSP)
Response to demo seems good so I expect it'll do well.

It will hurt. Plus it's like believing FF14 should also sell the same as FF15. If it matches GT6 that's a win for Sony. I think people forget GT6 sold over 5 million copies.

Gran Turismo - 44,000
Gran Turismo 2 - 115,000
Gran Turismo 3 - 74,000
Gran Turismo 4 - 253,000
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue - 108,000
Gran Turismo 5 - 269,000
Gran Turismo 6 - 55,000
When 5 Prologue has done 108k I expect sports to do more then that. At least 135k if not 160k I predicted Earlier.

Although amazon charts are not supporting me.

Why does Knack 2 exist. When even MHS a game capcom couldn't even be bothered to localise themselves is beating you, you have some real problems.
It probably exist because with sequels, they can fix/change things that the previous game(s) did "wrong". Knack 1 didnt sell horrible either, so they probably wanted to give it another chance. Much of the ground work was already done with Knack 1, so i guess it wasnt very expensive to create Knack 2, relatively speaking. Why do you think it exist?

I dont think it matters that much if Capcom didnt think MHS would do well in Europe when one of the biggest publishers in the world (Nintendo) picked it up instead.
