Stardew Valley for Nintendo Switch |OT| Starving for a Harvest

Haven't read anything on it in a bit but the crackling audio issue is popping up more often for me. closing the game after saving and restarting the only solution thus far?
Oh man I'm so glad it's not just me. This has been driving me nuts. It only happens after I've been playing for a while. So far closing the game and relaunching it is the only fix I've found :-/

It's been happening to me, too. It doesn't happen with any other Switch software, and I even made sure all the hardware connections were clean and firm to rule out it just being he result of a janky HDMI connection.

So there’s not really any social aspect its just gifting? No real conversations or anything. That’s a bummer.

Most characters have arcs with dialog scenes and choices. Usually start around 2 or for sure by 4 hearts.

There are a couple events which raise friendship with the whole village. Putting something tasty in the Summer Luau pot, or completing the Bulletin Board bundle at the Community Center. Do either of those and you’ll see the friendship events start rolling. Many events are opportunities to boost friendship further by picking the right response, so you’ll pick up momentum.

Raising friendship levels also allows access to villagers rooms or homes. Helpful for completing bulletin board requests.

I think every normal villager has 1 to 3 different recipes to give you when you reach friendship milestones.

Finally, you also get random gifts in the mail from villagers who like you.

There's a lot of good incentives to make everyone like you.

Just had my first crash. Winter 10. Broke me out of whatever hypnosis this game had me under. Will take a little break and check out Wulver Blade and finish Golf Story.

Gonna miss those dwarf scrolls I found :/

Does anyone know if fruit trees will grow in the quarry area in the hilltop farm? come to the conclusion the area is totally useless and so I'm hoping I can use the area for something useful.

So I'm just starting to get into this game (finally). I'm going in fairly blind, though I've played a lot of HM games. Is there anything I really should do during my first Spring that maybe isn't too obvious but I'd regret not doing?

When you access the community center for the first time look at what you need to do to get access to the green house and work on those crops in spring.

Yeah, I was you a week ago. A crash at the end of a pretty good loot day. Disgusted, I decided to stop playing until a patch come out.

Of course, the next day I was playing again. This game is too strong.

Also had my first crash today going to bed Winter 10!

On a side note... this game man, has it's hooks in! 29 hours have gone by in a blink with it and feel that I still have so much left to do.

I completely avoided the pc release as I wasn't a fan of Animal Crossing, and never played Harvest Moon. But it's just the perfect little relaxing game I was looking for. Ideal match for the switch.

i've been through over 10 crashes i'd say and the game still has it's hooks in. felt like quitting each time though. if the game wasn't so good i'd have said "screw this" ages ago. the crashes are really unacceptable.

Finished year 2. Managed to get all four candles in evaluation but am just burning out trying to get ancient seeds. Terrible luck with artifacts in general. Most profits from brewing now, increasing my starfruit operation because pale ales move so fast. Thinking of leaving all the animals to rot, except cheese is basically all my casks are good for right now.

Yes this. This game has the ability to make you want to play it constantly, but the moment you stop, you just feel like...what the hell was I doing? Was that even fun?
Pretty much this. When I’m not playing it I’m not thinking about it. I can go five days in a row and not play it, but once I start playing it again I’m hooked for hours and it’s real hard to get away.

Can confirm i have this problem too. It’s intermittent which is odd but yeah shutting the game and opening it fixes it for me too.

Pro tip for latest page:

Crash bug seems to have 2 triggers, either turning in a tool for Clint to upgrade or having empty spaces between items in your refrigerator inventory. If you get a crash, those are the things to try. Sort the refrigerator inventory and/or don't upgrade a tool.

So I am feeling overwhelmed with what to do. I am on day 20 of spring. I don't know If I should focus on fishing, mining, cropping, building a cellar, raising animals.

Too much stuff I could do, not enough time or money.,

I just built a furnace, and made my first copper bar, but have no idea what for LOl

Also, what is the slime and the stuff you get from monsters for?

Don't try to do it all. Focus on what you want and once you're good at that and have a quick routine for it, then try other things. Mining to upgrade tools to Copper is a good early move, makes farming a lot quicker. Steel tools isn't really much of an improvement, Gold is the next useful level but that's a long way off from Copper so just do that first and then work on other things.

Don't plant too many crops early on or you'll spend half the day and all your energy watering them.

You can wait on most social stuff until year 2 or 3, after you're well established.

Slime you can sell for gold, but eventually it's used to make something much later in the game. There is no shortage of slime.

Any item you lost to a crash should be there again if you repeat the day exactly. (Meaning, the random hoeable worm spots should be where they were. Not sure about mines but I would guess it’s the same) At least that’s how it’s been for me

thanks man,

I try to talk to people but I see no relevant interaction. Then I give them some gifts on their birthday , but most of the time they hate it. WTF?
LOL

I have no idea what I'm doing...

Planted some seeds and sold the parsnips. Planted some more so I guess I'll make money doing that. Have been clearing grass/wood/rocks in the farm but can't get rid of stumps logs or trees and don't know how to upgrade my tools. Built a little fence and path.

Some guy gave me a fishing rod but I can't get the hang of using it. There is a broken bridge but need 300 wood. Apparently I need to give people gifts but have no idea what interests them. When I talk to people they don't say much.

I love the idea of building my own farm but feel really overwhelmed.

I feel the same way , day 8 , my farm is tiny and I spent most my days clearing land or talking to townfolk, I actually like it doesn’t hold your hand , I guess the point is you can do whatever you feel like doing that day .

Yeah it's cool you can do what you want but I feel like I'm doing something wrong lol. Plus it doesn't help time goes in so fast so I'm worrying I didn't do enough.

Ooh, I have a feeling I'm about to exponentially increase my farm output. Gold nuggets in the mine everywhere, all the sudden I have 10 sprinkler thingy.

You guys are on the right track. I was in same position year 1. Once you hit fall/winter you have a sense of what you want your farm to look like in Year 2 and you feel like you're in control of the situation.

I’m only in the first week but:
There‘s a blacksmith in town who can improve your tools.
At Pierre‘s there is a notice board where some tasks pop up when other people need something. Collect and give these things to the people and they‘ll like you.
Just go fishing with the fishing rod and press A when the bait starts to shake a little. And collecting 300 pieces of wood goes pretty fast when you cut down trees and their stumps.

Partially to help combat the crackling audio issue (which is more prominent in the music than the sound effects), and partially because I can't tear myself away from the game I've started to use my own music.

Turned the in-game music off, switched on my TV speakers for the sound effects and ran some good ol' countrified/folksy albums on the turntable/iPod.

Listened to some Link Wray, Magnolia Electric Co., Townes Van Zandt, etc and it's pure bliss.

Just finished year 1 last night and reached floor 100 of the mine of the final day. Got a new Coop and small barn built and ready for year two. Now to grow that damned cauliflower I've regretted selling all year since discovering it was needed for a bundle on one of the last days of Spring.

There is lots to do but there is no rush. You can't do all of the activities each day. Some days you'll just be working around your farm, some days you might just go fishing, some days you might spend mining, etc.

The farming starts slow, just make sure you have stuff growing and that you don't plant so much that it takes you forever to water.

Foraging is pretty decent early on. Wildflowers, shells on the beach, etc. is a nice way to get some extra cash early.

Don't try to clear your farm too early. You only really need to focus on clearing as you need to make more room or need to collect more material (wood/stone).

Don't be in a rush to repair that bridge, but when you happen to have an extra 300 wood it'll give you access to more valuable shells.

You're not going to be able to catch every fish with the starting fishing rod and low fishing skill level. If the fish icon is moving all over the place, that fish is probably too difficult to catch right now. Make sure to try fishing in different areas (ocean, rivers, lake).. You'll find fish that don't really move around all that much and soon your fishing skill will increase.

Eventually you will be mining which will provide ore (copper/iron/gold) which you can craft into bars (after you make a furnace). You will be using these items to upgrade your tools which will start making activities much easier.

And again, you're not going to be doing all of this at once or completing it all in your first couple seasons. The days do seem to move fast, but the days are endless.

I've been reading around and it seems that it's not only the above that cause the crashes (I don't even have a fridge yet and tool upgrades have been fine so far).

The one that I've read that must have got me is having a full inventory of mining items in my backpack when going to bed as it was late. Oh well, won't stop me going in again tonight.

Can I put flooring/stone paths around my fruit trees, or does that not count as leaving a space?

After they're fully grown. Nothing around them while growing.

It's what I did here:

Your house looks so nice. I'm in Fall of year 2 and have yet to purchase any furniture for my fully upgraded home. Abigail lives in a empty farm house.

I am making mad gold though, so I plan to rectify this soon; I want my place to look as good as yours.

I need to vent. Have already put 25+ hours into Stardew and have been keeping it in sleep mode when not playing. I have this Elite Player backpack that carries my dock, cables, and 3 pro controllers. Never know where I’ll be located for the job, plus might visit friends or family between shifts.

Nintendo, why do you make your pro controller trollers socsensitive?! I had my back pack in my lap while using the Switch in table top mode looking through my friends list. Decided to set it down and all of my pro controllers turned on and moved the cursor through the menus while clicking buttons.

Note: I did not throw or manhandle the backpack. I lifted it up from my lap and leaned it down.

I look up and somehow the controller clicked on my friends Mario Kart hours and said “ yada yada Start game?”. I was like “Oh no!” but the controller still clicked A on itself. Next popped up “Do you really want to close your game?” I was determined to not close it so tried my best to gently let go of the backpack and let it rest on the chair. What happens? It clicks A again and closes my game anyways.

Why do Joycons take a double home press to start but pro controllers are so sensitive?

You're complaining about your Nintendo Switch registering button presses that are actually being pressed on your controller. Not sure what you expect. Get this controller case if it's that big of an issue: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZXW63DX/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Started a new farm with the express purpose of getting max fishing as soon as possible
so that I could catch The Legend, which I accomplished! Got level 10 fishing on Spring 19 of the first year and caught The Legend on the same day. Also managed to fish up a dinosaur egg and neptune's glaive super early on, so I'm feeling pretty good about continuing on with this save.

Yup, fishing makes a ton of money if you spend a lot of time with it.

How do I find out who likes what? They don't mention what they like when you talk to them.

Anyways Alex is my secret Santa, what does he like or how can I find out?

I'm new to this game as well. Only on day 17 or 18 of Spring so far. I used to use strategy guides for Harvest Moon 64 and BTN on PS1 for this kind of thing.

I've found the Stardew Valley Wiki to be super helpful for this and also finding out what value things ship for, etc. Here is the entry for Alex.
