Dragon Ball Super |OT9| Genki-Drama

You don't want to watch all the loveable characters like the Para Para Brothers?

Freaking tien lol

Even I can't help but laugh, but I really had to give him that slot lol. I just like characters who give their all! Tien was a character that I respected highly growing up. He has some of the most memorable moments in Z for me.

Tien was also pretty beastly in OG Dragon Ball. I had a handful of volumes when I was a kid, and one of them featured Tien beating the shit out of Yamcha. I'll never forget that kiai against the Kamehameha, or the leg-break.

I was actually talking about when he said that they knew coming from all the work they did with Z and the movies about how Goku's presence or lack of presence effects the audience, not necessarily GT.

And, it always comes as missing the point when people claimed GT failed because of 'too much Goku'. While Goku did get a lot of scene time, Goku was the least of the show's problems and it's always come off to me that Goku is a scapegoat for GT's failure.

I also don't see how they were clearly wrong when they said that the switch happened primarily because it was natural, which I do agree with. The flow from an adventure story to more action was done almost seamless in GT, almost the same way how Dragon Ball went from comedy to a darker tone after King Piccolo.

Lol, good one. That transition was as abrupt and obvious as all hell.

I remember when that chapter came Zebra fans were raging that their best man was acting overly goofy

funnily enough most Zebra fans are Vegeta fans

Definitely some overlap lol. I really liked Zebra. It was painful to see him become irrelevant. Especially after they hyped up his Gourmet Demon . . .

Zoro zebra and vegeta fans all coexist together. Toei knew it

yeah tons of characters sidelined and 5 arcs skipped due to Shuiesha/WSJ telling him to wrap it up in 6 months

but still somehow got a better ending the Bleach

It's more that I'm saying I'm completely indifferent to traveling to any of the other universes
Those are the characters you care more about so naturally yea. Personally I wanna see what other universes have to offer it’s like mentioning a bunch of islands seeing those inhabitants and than never going there in one piece(imagine not going to Elbaf for example)

How naive we were.
I don’t think many of us expected this tournament so soon in hindsight we probably should have lol but still

It's not going to be better with Eren.
It's never going to be better with Eren.

Gon might feel like a checklist because HxH is a deconstruction of shonen, and he explores many of the flaws characters like Goku have that are often just glossed over.

He is very important to HxH.
And has more charm than Goku.

Not every arc needs every character. This is one of the benefits to a long running series, one arc can have a focus on certain characters and the next can change it up.
The approach Oda takes is fine.

As I said, Eren is also a deconstruction of a Shounen cliche, but it does nothing to make his character better or more interesting. It just makes him annoying.

Gon may also be a deconstruction, but he runs into the same problem as Eren for me, except he isn't annoying. He's just bland and nowhere near as charming as Goku or many other Shounen heroes who fills the same list.

Oda's approached works for the most part, but then you tends to stall the story because he has too many characters doing stuff at once and some characters just get lost like Smoothy on Whole Cake Island.

Lol, good one. That transition was as abrupt and obvious as all hell.

Don't agree since GT was heading in that direction. The only thing forced was Baby.

Unlike Luffy, Goku isn't interested in the other universes other than the fighters. So there was never no real inclined to 'explore' the other universes. Goku wasn't even interested in seeing the Saiyans home world.

I also find it weird that people thought universe hopping would have been a thing when no one in the cast show interest in their own universe.

Vegeta had a bit of interest in visiting Salad.

Vegeta had interest that should’ve been enough

Whole time it's pretty hilarious we talk about other universes as if Goku and co. have fully explored this one. Basically we're saying we just want Goku to find strong fighters in other universes lol

Too bad Vegeta ain't the main character

Rather have someone else...

I find Gon's wonder and excitement at the world of HxH no matter how dark it can get to be infectious personally. It's charming and makes me all the more invested when that world throws its worst at him.
It's something Luffy has going for him as well. But for whatever reason I don't get attached to Goku like that even though he shares many traits those two have.

Of course, that all comes down to persona preference.

I'm in agreement here. I was introduced to Goku first, but I like Luffy and Gon better. I think there's just more character there.

That isn't my problem with Gon. My problem is that he comes off as bland compared to everyone else around him since they're not walking Shounen cliches. Doesn't help that he's always paired with Killua who is probably one of the most interesting characters in the series, so it just highlights even more how bland Gon is.

Goku gets somewhat of a pass since he's the original and people copy him more or less. He also have the benefit of being an experience protagonist by the end of the original Dragon Ball instead of an upcoming rookie like Gon, Luffy, Naruto, and Eren. He also fills The Ace role that is normally given to other characters, like Ace (no pun really) was The Ace of One Piece or Levi is to AOT. In many ways, Goku is closer to Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin then most Shounen main characters.

Luffy charm is how he bounces, no pun intended, off other people and how he can just read people so well despite being a moron. That and he knows when to cut through the crap and get to the heart of the matter.

Gon isn't a bad main character, he's just subpar from what I have watched.
