Nintendo Switch Update Ver. 4.0.0 Live! Some video capture, transfer profiles/saves

So if I'm understanding this correctly, the save data transfer is an all-or-nothing thing, right? So you have to transfer an entire user's data from one Switch to another, and you can't transfer individual game data between two systems?

Here's my situation: I'm signed into my Nintendo Account on both my Switch and my husband's. All of my save data is on my Switch, of course, except for Sonic Mania, which is on my husband's Switch. He prefers digital copies of games while I prefer physical, and since I'm anticipating a physical release of Sonic Mania in the future I didn't bother to download the game on my Switch, and instead just played it on his Switch under my user linked to my Nintendo Account.

My hope is that I'll eventually be able to transfer that data to my own Switch once I either get a physical copy of Sonic Mania (if that ever actually happens) or just download it from the eShop myself, but that's still not possible with this update, correct? If so, hopefully cloud saves will come with Nintendo Online that will resolve the issue.

It also looks like you're able to share game updates locally. The option was a placeholder before. In theory, if you're wanting to play a local match but have different versions of the game, the person with the latest game update will be able to send the patch to the other player. I guess this is good in some use cases and maybe LAN tournaments or someplace where data caps are at a premium.

Woohoo!! Select Games
So we can finally transfer save datas? Isn't this a relatively big deal? (as in it was a heavily requested feature).

I also don't really understand the point of online stores pre-purchase?
They are so you can download the game earlier i think. And play it on release date

What's also cool about it is that once the servers go down, you're still able to get the latest version without resorting to hacks. It justifies having a physical version of a game like Arms which has been frequently updated.

Regarding play time, I could be mistaken, but previously in my game list I would only see “played for a little while” and then everything over 5 hours recorded in increments (5,10,15...).

Now I am seeing 1,2,3,4 hours, and then everything in 5 hour increments beyond that.

Is this new, or just something I missed from before?

People excited for this must not own a Xbox One or PS4, there is nothing exciting about this, its like being excited that i found the missing wheel on my bike, so now i can use it.
Pre purchage and pre download is also coming soon to select games, not activated, so half baked. But switch gets passes on frame rate, resolution, online, almost mandatory sd card buys, and now tiny updates.... whats new.

Is this a joke account?

A GameFAQs account maybe.

Sorry, it was making a weird high pitched almost beeping noise while rumbling. I was playing Volgarr the Viking so I don't know if it was just in that game but it's not something I had heard while playing that game before the update.

The Joy-Con are capable of producing sound, is why I asked. Have you played Golf Story? The Joy-Con make a few different noises in that game.

Volgarr always made noises when doing things, maybe the update messed with the "volume".

Yeah I have, but as far as I know those sounds are actually produced by the rumble actuators, not any internal speakers.

Either way, I wasn't hearing this before updating the controllers and now I hear it whenever the rumble is triggered. At least in Volgarr anyway.

Oh really? I hadn't heard it at all previously, in the 5 or so hours I played before this update. Then after the update I heard it every time. If it was making the sound before then it must have been much quieter, yeah.

Yes, it's working like that.
On one hand, MEGATON!.

On the other, now I know I spent so much money on games I played for 2 hours :(

It’s a little strange. If the system is already keeping track of everything at least to the hour, then why not display all play times like this? (17,23,89,etc.)

Wasn't that always there (albeit worded differently)?

While everyone and their dog will jump on that Mario T-Rex icon, I will be the true hipster and rock that easter island statue with sunglasses instead <3

Yes, recording is finally available!...Oh, only for select games...and only for 30 seconds.

At least it's something. Hopefully it gets improved on.

I'm just shocked, and thankful, that they even made the effort to make this small improvement. It is probably making me too optimistic that they will take it even further in the future.

Same. I honestly thought they wouldn't actually do any kind of video sharing/recording honestly. The time thing would be nice, and maybe eventually they'll make it hourly, but yeah, it's just weird. One of those small things that are just kinda like, "why would you do it that way?"

Tried the recording our on mario kart, pretty neat
Nintendo games really do shine like this.. hopefully will become system wide
Be amazing if they allowed longer, but suspect the 30s might stick knowing nintendo

Why is it select games?

Why is video recording for select games?

Only taking a guess here, but maybe because video recording requires uses additional processing power while a game is running. This could potentially impact the performance of some games, in which case it makes sense to enable it on a game-by-game basis.

It does have more hardware in it.

Why would you expect those in a system update?

Hope springs eternal.

Youtube, Netflix, etc. are the only things stopping this system from being the main system in my living room. After the launch of the Japanese Youtube earlier I've thought that it's only a matter of time before Nintendo pulls the trigger. Well apparently it's more time.

I'm also personally waiting excitedly for Netflix and Youtube. It's definitely been a while, but I think it was an even longer wait on 3DS and (maybe?) Wii U.

So is there actually any games we can pre-purchase right now? I would think that Mario would be the obvious first candidate....

It's a start. Now we just need Messages, Party Chat, and Invites to be on the device.

Super bummed pre-load isn't for every upcoming title.

Am I reading this correctly?
Nintendo said:
3. Ensure that all Nintendo Switch systems select the same software icon. If a different software is selected, you will not be able to join a local group.
4. Press the "+" or "-" Button on your controller, then select "Software Update" > "Match Version with Local Users" > "Next."
If this option is unavailable, you must install the latest system update on your console.
5. Once all users are on the screen that allows them to either create or join a group, designate one user to select "Create Group."
The rest of the users must then select "Join Group" and select the local group created by the designated user.
6. Once the desired users have joined the local group, the group creator must then select "Start Communication."
If there is software to update, all the user's software will be updated to match the most recent version of the group.

I can't tell. Step 3 says you all need to select the same software, but Step 6 makes it sound like this process will update all software to match the group's latest version.

Omigosh.

This update is full of awesome unspoken tweaks.

For real though Ninty, why was it not like this from the beginning? And if you can count playtime in 1 hour increments, why not do so for numbers after 5 hours too?
Still better than PS4, which tracks nothing :/

EDIT: I still have some stuff that says "played for a little while". I guess I haven't even broken an hour on GoNNER yet, lol.

The saves transfer still isn't what I'm looking for. Cloud saves makes everything easier.

Similar situation for me. Wife wants her BotW save data on her Switch, but sounds like it'd overwrite her Splatoon 2 save on there currently?

Dunno if anyone else here has noticed this already, but it seems another unannounced feature of this update is that, if you have a physical game cart currently in your Switch, its icon will show up first in your menu.

I've had Mario + Rabbids in for a while but it wasn't even on my starting screen anymore because I've been playing so many download games. Now it's in the leftmost spot. Cool!
