PlayStation VR Thread 2: Reloaded

I'm using the Turtle Beach Stealth 350VR over-the-ear.

It was developed for the PSVR (according to the description), it has a bass boost and is made a little wider, and with gaps in the headpads, to fit on the PSVR headset. When you turn your head from side to side the headphones stay put on the headset, they don't move around. It's also really light... I've worn them for 1.5 hrs and forgot I even had them on, and best of all, they sound great.

Wondering what headphones people are using here.

PSVR completely fails to drive most of mine (assuming i shouldn't use anything over 32ohms?), fit is all over the place, and I'm stuck with using some IEMs, good ones too, but I'm curious what's being used here.

I just ended up doing earbuds. All the headphones I tried to use would eventually slip off if playing a game that requires too much head movement(especially when needing to look up), also is way easier to quickly remove them and put them back on. Or to quickly hear if someone is in the room or kids are waking up, etc.

I use the Turtle Beach Wii U headset I got on the cheap from Toys R Us a while back. It fits right over the headset, no problem.

I'm wearing some large Sony bass booster earphones. They fit fine as long as I put them on first. The VR headset then wraps around them without issue.

I would totally buy a VR port of the Move Sports games after trying a bunch of VR Move games, they would be a great addition to the library.

Having so much more fun than I expected with PSVR.

Trying out some Rec Room, streaming it too.
edit: I'll unlist it first just in case there's an embargo.

Just got into the game, so far GREAT port, extremely extremely smooth, great graphics.

Playing farpoint, really good btw but camera placement is a pain. I love the aim gun though. I wish it was standard to show the camera box when pressing options like in farpoint, love that feature.

Wait, I thought we weren't allowed to stream until they patch / update it next week with all the fixes they are working on?

Oh really? There's an embargo?
Didn't read anything about it from the email and I would expect that they will block it from the OS if it's prohibited.

Anyway my impression so far after spending an hour in it.
This is a god send for PSVR games. This is like the MMO everybody wanted in VR.
You get daily quest, your own room, cosmetic, games that are not half assed. I would say most of the games, like EACH of them are bigger than $20 you're paying for. Playing while communicating and planning is unreal. Only tried the sword quest game so far, it's crazy how fun a 4 player co-op can be, I was handling bow and they were using swords/crossbow/shield. Haven't tried out other games but this might be the best multiplayer game yet.

tl;dr: this is the best thing happened in PSVR in awhile. You can even invite friends/create custom room for games.

I will say, whoever that plans on playing it, please be chill and kind to others, some might not talk a lot, some might not be as good as you in video games, so just have fun instead of focusing on winning. The party I was with is pretty good, they're trying pretty hard but they were scolding at another player who isn't talking or playing properly. I get the frustration, but it's an extremely new game, be calm and have fun even if you're losing.

Finished No Heroes Allowed VR, somewhere between 6-8 hours, could be shorter if you know what the best strategy.
Fun game, but I wish it have more depth, mechanic is a little too simple to be proper RTS.

Might want to jump into the Discord asap. When you originally signed up it was for a "technical testing" beta (which is what is going on) and they ask not to record / stream. There is a later beta phase that will include everyone else who is media, youtube, streamer, etc. and that is completely free to share publicly.

It's amazing how far it has evolved. Can't wait to jump in tomorrow (and stress test session at 5PM PST).

It was part of the 60+ games PS Blog post.
And yea, no way it will be finished/coming to PSVR.

According to Polish Paul, End of the Beginning is confirmed for PS VR and PS4, has been in development for 6 years, will have some PS4 Pro support, devs are not sure about Aim controller yet, and in addition to the full game being playable in VR will have a separate wave based shooter like spin-off game. Gfx will definitely be down-graded for VR but it looks promising.

The game is actually up now, and yea I just joined in the Discord, they should've made clear of that T&C or a section in the discord stating rules.
Either way I've unlisted that video.

Spent more time in other games, we need to get a daily event going on here.

I know it's up. I just won't be using my PSVR until tomorrow, because its at the office :p

Ahh, anyway you haven't played it yet right? You're in for a good good time. It's insanely good.

Also I freaking love my in-game name. OddPony.
There's a friend list in game, in preparation for cross play I guess.
Custom room, camera, party, this felt like a true MMO.
Playing through that dungeon quest thing was crazy. Disc Golf is really fun too. Can't wait to get some game session going here.
This game straight up murdered every social game/lite-mp game in PSVR.
I don't see who would want to pay to play smashbox, sportsbar etc. When you have a free, super-populated already social game with every feature you've ever wanted.

Rec Room might be the game you're looking for and it's free.

Anybody up for some rec room hit me up, iMattAces on PSN and OddPony in RecRoom.

Because they are only available to customers "in the US" it looks like you can get around that by changing your Amazon account billing address to a US address, right?

Just the shipping address. But they will send the code via email anyway. Bestbuy has the same and they recommend using their HQ address when ordering internationally :D

Megaton Rainfall needs a mission mode where you have all the powers and can just choose a mission.

Mission mode is unlocked after you beat the game, but it restricts you to the powers available during that mission in the story :/ i also would like an Endless Mode where enemies keep spawning in random cities. (and the possibility to turn off casualty limits)

But it's quite the chore replaying it on Hard even when you can't skip the cutscenes.

So you can search for friends in game or their website.
Add in your phone number to receive notification (game invites when you're offline).
Change your name anytime, I'm sticking with OddPony for now.
Whole lot of cool features here.

I can report that the Gear VR motion controller is awesome!!! Would love to know how it compares to the PSVR Move controllers. Maybe just cos I haven't experienced anything else in VR, the Gear VR controller feels spot on in terms of moving and tracking. Can only use one unfortunately.

Not had a huge amount of time with it, just played a bit of a shooting game called Dead and Buried.

Big downside to the Gear VR is that your phone can get really hot! When you're wearing it on your face the heat can get a bit uncomfortable.

Move is significantly better, in every way.

I've had GearVR since the note 4, now on a note 8. I'm running PSVR on a Pro.

I love having the gear controller, but the moves are much better.

Perfect, thanks, just the opinion I wanted as I have no other way of comparing it until I get a PSVR.

Gear VR controller is a traditional 'waggle' controller. It detects motion but it doesn't know its position in space. It's a good upgrade for current mobile VR experiences (as before you only had touchpad on headset itself... and headset movement).

The PS Move controller however is a true 6-dof (degrees of freedom) controller that knows its own position & orientation in space. Similarly the PSVR itself is also a 6-dof device (unlike Gear VR).

Shootin around a corner, over an obstacle or simply just leaning forwards in a car. Are those moments when you realize that the "cardboard" tech ain't got shit on this :D

I didn't realize Rec Room was coming to PSVR and that there was a beta! I've heard great things about it, is there a release window? I signed up for the beta just now so I doubt I'll get in, but this is great news

Q4. The game looks good and plays good even in closed early beta. There's only 4 games available in the beta, but you will spend a lot of time in the rec center alone. There's wall-pong, basketball and a whole lot of tools for you to mess around.

This game is unreal. I have a pretty high expectation going in and I'm still amazed by it. Playing the sword quest adventure thing is crazy fun in co-op.

I actually just use the earbuds. Bought headphones for it but where the PSVR unit itself can feel a bit smothering I felt like the headphones put it over the top. Just too much shit on my head and I could feel it all while playing. I hardly notice the earbuds and they sound fine to me.

Just imagine if Sony did a remake of PS HOME for PSVR...

Why Sony does not make an extension like this?
That would keep our current moves.
Maybe because the device mock is thin as a sheet of paper? (didn't exactly match the two, but should be close enough for making my point)

movemock21po3.gif

Certainly helps the visual appeal, but the real deal would need to be waaay bigger, which would make it extremely clumsy to grasp. Also, even more importantly, the Move controller in all plausible probability doesn't have any support for extensions. Even if you can physically connect anything to it via USB, it doesn't mean it could support sending the additional input data, or, the other way arround, supports exposing its positional data to the extension, which would be the new controller, while the Move turns into the attachment. It just doesn't work that way.

It would be much easier to just make a new Move generation with analog (or whatever) extended input. But they obviously didn't go for it. I can even guess some very plausible reasoning for that, but let's not discuss this again right now right here.

Yeah for sure I'm in to play. Just send me a message on PSN anytime you're up for it in the next 10 hours? I should get the notice on my phone.

This is much better than Home.

Changed my name to MattAces, what's your in game name? I'll try to add you first in game. Just finished one hour session. Got to the boss in that sword quest game.

Also in custom game, you can throw in more props, different rules and stuff. It's crazy.

Kyolux. I have you on PSN. If you're on now, I just need 15 minutes or so and I can get on.

Saw you added me. Took me a while to figure out it was on the watch and not the PC lol.

I got off for now since you were offline. Will try to play at the same time as you later I guess.

Very noob question but

When people complain about the visual downgrade from base PS4 to PSVR in games is the reason for that the specs within the PS4 or is the cause the PSVR helmet's tech?

If it's the former then something like a PS5 would increase visuals/performance of the same tech right?

PS4.
The whole "PSVR only has 1080p, unplayable" ONLY happens pre-launch. Ever since release, you never will never hear anybody complaining about the display. It has the least screen door effect compared to other VR headsets in the market now.

It's proven by some Pro enhanced game looking extremely sharp in PSVR.
I would say most games are still not as clear as standard HD TV, but it's far from bad.
Skyrim for example, PS4 is running it at 30fps. In VR, it will have to go 60fps, reprojected to 120fps, or maybe 45fps to 90fps. Naturally the visual downgrade.

So if there was a way to mod a PSVR helmet to run on PC (I gave no idea why Sony doesn't make it native, maybe with it's verson.2?) it would hypothetically look just as good/close to it's PC VR competitor's with it's current hardware on the very same rig? (With less screen door effect as bonus)

I'm interested in buying PSVR (more so than a Vive because I'm more of a console than PC gamer) I just hope that this or the next version is future proof and compatible with more than one device.

You can actually play some stuff on PC with PSVR with no positional tracking, but there are some people who manage to do it with a whole lot of modding including hardware. You will need PS3 camera and a lot of stuff, just not worth the effort.

As for Sony not allowing, at launch, we were asking the same question, but right now, I totally see why. Sony is pretty hard at work getting PCVR ports and stuff, buying games from PSN directly profits them. PSVR library will never be as big as PCVR, just like PSN Store is not as big as Steam, but there's a whole lot of ports incoming.
https://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/10/13/all-60-games-coming-to-playstation-vr-through-early-2018/

Future proof? It's hard to say. It's very clear that Sony will move on from this light tracked technology, therefore PSVR2 motion controller won't be compatible with PSVR1 and vice versa. If PS5 supports PS4 games, I don't see why they would want to block off the access of PSVR since PSVR games are part of PS4 library. PSVR is already getting a lot of games that it shouldn't be getting like Raw Data, Doom VFR, Skyrim VR (reason is because the lack of thumbstick on Move compared to PCVR, yet they still manage to do it). I honestly don't think PSVR will become obsolete after PS4, but you will be stuck with PSMove on PS5.

But hey, why talk about the distant future, just get a PSVR and enjoy it now. It's a healthy console with great library and promising future.

*By future, I mean the next 2 years.

Don't buy PSVR for what it might become, only buy it if what it is now justifies the investment for you. :)

The PS4 restricts what is possible, the Pro a bit less, but it sure still enables developers to provide good games. And there are definitely quite a few of those out there, with many more incoming.
