Also to consider: 2017 is a much stronger gaming year than 2014 was. Shadow of Mordor didn't deserve to win even in 2014, but the strength of the competition in 2017 - in both quality and quantity - is insane comparatively.
2014 was one of the worst years in gaming of recent memory. Hurts to think about.

Also I must say, this beastcast is really good so far. It honestly feel less... stilted than normal? I dunno, conversation just seem to flow more naturally.

yeah, Mordor didn't have an incredible Wolfenstein game and Nintendo exclusives to worry about

I’m only a little bit into it but that’s probably expected when things are a bit looser due to a different host handling it? You could probably argue Jeff has a lot more podcast hosting experience than Vinny too, I guess.

Which Nintendo game was out that year. Legit don't remember.

Uhhhh looks like...

Smash, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, and various other things

Fantasy Life was my GOTY even though I barely got anywhere in the story after 40 hours

I bought the Steamlink Bundle and refunded the Anime game bundled with it. So I bought a Steam link for 10€. I'm not 100% sure what the Steam link does and I don't really need it if does what I think it does. I don't.....know why I did that.
I don't know why I did that. I probably should move out of this dorm and into an apartment with more than one room so I get to use this thing.

For that price it's really not a regrettable purchase. I just got one, and I have used it two or three times. On a wired connection there is very little latency. I think the visuals take a hit, but that could also just be the color profiles between my TV and monitor. The biggest issue I have is how audio is handled when I am chatting online with friends. I have to resort to the nintendo method and use twitch/discord chat on my phone.

So instead of playing all these great 2017 games I still need to play.

I'm playing Overwatch again because I need chtullu zenyetta.

At least I got Jiang shi mei and she's as cute as a button.

I mean.

Maybe if you played a different game than I did.

Because the one I played was pretty good and better than AA5.

Don't agree at all. I found the story to be pretty bland and the interactions between the characters to be unbelievably dry. Also, I didn't like how they kept changing up the rules in trials. The only redeeming value from the game was finding out
that Layton and Phoenix live in the same universe.

I played What Remains of Edith Finch today and that game is incredible. One of my favourites this year for sure, it has some stunning moments. I'm not sure I've seen a "walking sim" with such mechanical variety before. Don't sleep on it when you're catching up on 2017 games.

I need to do the same. That zen skin is incredible. Haven't booted up OW in a few weeks so yes, this needs to be done.

I got lucky and pulled Van Helsing McCree. Just need Cthulhu Zen and I'm golden.
I have Lunar New Year Mei, that's good enough.

When does the event end. I should probably play some more and get her costume. I think I have juuuuuuuuust enough gold to get it..but I need to play a bit more to buy another new costume. I got the Mcree Van helsing costume, it's really fantastic and I started to hate how the gambler outfit looks...

Still not sure why Edith Finch didn't hit me that hard, especially as I was really looking forward to it after playing Unfinished Swan a couple years ago. I thought some of the vignettes were really neat but I wasn't blown away by most of it. And the bit that connected to Swan was nice.

Maybe I'll replay it sometime soon and see if I feel any different. As is I'd say I enjoyed Tacoma more, if we're talking "walking sims" from this year.

but yeah everyone should play NitW, so

It is pretty much the benchmark for these type of games. That
fish factory story
is sublime and really depressing.

I think the same, and to me it is that the connective narrative tissue for all the vignettes just didn't really compel me?

It's as scary as Gone Home so, beware.

I know you're saying this as a joke but I do wanna say I actually enjoyed how "scary" Gone Home was in a way this wasn't.

Something about just being in a house at night by yourself is inherently creepy and the Edith Finch house was weird/linear enough that it didn't really have that.
