I reached some crazy places using cap jump on sand kingdom yesterday. A lot of places with gold coins and some crazy ones that didn't have rewards but we're much more difficult.

I just beat the story after playing off and on for a few days. This was such a simply fun game. It felt rewarding just to play a game for the joy of it.

My favorite moon was one of the ones in Peach's Castle. I think you know which one i'm probably referring to. ;)

I've got about 300 Moons so far, now's the time to go back through and find the rest!

I'm up to 370 moons and I have yet to leave the
Luncheon Kingdom
. I think I'm pretty close to beating the campaign. This has been a ton of fun. The exploration is really rewarding. Hopefully, the game will become a bit more challenging after the campaign. I miss challenges and creativity of the Galaxy games.

Regarding the possibility of future additional content, there's something interesting about the "compartment like" design of some portions of games like Breath of the Wild and Odyssey. In the case of the former it's related to the modular design of Shrines and in the later the Challenge Rooms.

Is a positive for developers in the sense that it's a clever design sortcut but it also benefits the prospects of DLC as it takes less resources to make content of good quality. These spaces been isoleted from level and not neccesarily require to be thematically and geographically alined with it means changing it's layout for new content is faster.

In the end is up to Nintendo if they want to offer more advanced Shrines or Challenge Rooms. Resource and time wise there's not much of an obstacle.

You are very much correct (quite smart of Nintendo to design their games in such a way), but I hope they decide to also develop a SM64 port as a DLC for example (those levels are quite small compared to Odyssey levels) and other mini worlds that offer exploration and moons, but at a much smaller fraction of the size of regular Kingdoms. I want moooooore ;).

Apparently the Sphynx isn't done with the questions at the absolute final level. Good reward though. About 1000 coins IIANM. You need to figure out how to trigger his final trivia quiz, and every wrong answer will require you to restart the level to allow you to restart the quiz again. In my runs, I normally head to his area to grab the
Life-Up Heart for 6 lives
, didn't realise that he still got a few trivia questions before the end. :p

Was bored after 100%-ing the game and found this shortcut. The absolute last, final level in the game, with skip/shortcut to avoid 4 stages in the level. If you die in this level, you'd have to restart back all the way from the beginning. Spoiler warning for those still progressing in the game.

Darker Side of The Moon, only one level there called "Long Journey's End". A long level, with death resulting in return to the very beginning of the level. Shortcut is as featured in the video, skipping the Volbonan Forks fling stage, Burrbo Hedgehog floating platform stage, Pokio "poking on swinging board" stage, Bowser stage, and skips you straight to the "Thank You" Spark Pylons.

I'm still playing Odyssey. I really, really like this game. Returning to a kingdom, attempting koopa running for the first time and seeing your crazy platforming ideas be rewarded right then and there has to be among the most satisfying moments in games.

It really is great that the physics of all three sandbox Marios differ from each other, which in turn influences the level design. What makes Odyssey satisfying given its levels is the immediacy behind chaining Mario's moves together. While I prefer 64's more variable physics, where Mario has a lot more states of acceleration and slidiness and momentum, Odyssey provides immediate satisfaction by how fast you can chain moves together and make the impossible possible.

Someone earlier in the thread showed how it's possible to travel to New Donk City without using the electricity cables, for example. Odyssey physics make it a lot easier to experiment with that kind of thing.

How do you get that high? You just have to hit it just right?

Waggle.

I mean, shake your JoyCon/Pro controlleras you about to hit the tornado. The lower position I aimed for allows for the higher altitude it launches you. Time it right, as you hit the tornado and shake the controller upwards, and you'll hit the height you're looking for. You will lose altitude, so you'll need to shake the controller again in "waves", as Glydon drops lower, shake the controller up, Glydon flies up, and so on and so forth.

Thankfully it's not essential. First runthough, I went through the entire gauntlet of challenges in that level. Only when I was trying to "break" the game (by hunting for these skips/shortcuts) that it was stumbled upon. :p

True but imagine how much easier special maneuvers would be if that shake command was just mapped to one of the duplicate face buttons?

Agreed, much easier I reckon. I believe the game is encouraging discovery by exploration, and that mantra bleeds onto the controls as well. The stringing of move combos to extend horizontal and vertical reach for example, those are by trial and exploration.

Although, when you think about it, if I do that Glydon section of the game, spread my arms up in a T-pose and "waggle" for altitude, I'd be "emulating" the Glydon myself. *just not in public, please* :p

Playing the game, enjoying the game and onto the post game content. I haven’t used motion controls once and it’s not detracted from my enjoyment, at all. Just my input!

Just beat the main game, what a fantastic experience throughout. Time to share my favorite screenshot taken so far.

Game is fucking magical.

On one of the final kingdoms and sad to keep playing (only because I know the game is about to end).

Very few games in history evoke such unbridled, pure joy and happiness. The only bad thing about this game is the wait until the next 3D Mario game :(

Today is the first day I can't play this at all. :(

Pff, sucks. Going on a short trip this weekend, can't wait to bring the game with me.

So that Sphinx is actually in the
Darker side of the moon platforming level?
. Thanks.

Anyone else think the camera kinda... sucks?

Like, the game is pure joy and fun, but the camera gets in the way more often than it should.

It's so weird to be playing a game in 2017 with annoying camera issues. It's even weirder that the game is a staple Nintendo title.

Affirmative. Off the beaten "flower path". :p

I switched the camera sensitivity all the way up because of this. Some of the issues of the camera is unavoidable, there's a stage in
Dark Side of The Moon called Breakdown Road accessible via the moon pipe immediately behind where Odyssey is parked
where you had to swing the camera 180 degrees to navigate around the level, and you're being chased from behind. Took me a while to get the camera nicely angled before I can start my run there.

Never had a problem once

I'm sure it's been said already, but I haven't felt this way playing a video game since 100%ing an import japanese copy of Mario 64 when I was relatively 'young' (The only time I've ever imported a game, I was absolutely enthralled by it).

What an amazing game this is, and absolutely packed full of stuff to do. Might be my favorite Mario ever.

Bring on a sequel!

Ugh fuck nintendo's forced waggle shit...

It isn't forced. Motions are often tied to movements in-game that make sense for it too and it hasn't felt unnatural whenever I play the game in docked mode.

Most motion controlled actions can be performed using the regular controls, e.g. spinning the analogue stick causes a cheep-cheep to do a spin attack, spinning the stick and pressing Y sees Cappy be thrown in a circular motion. Holding B, then pressing Y lets the sprout creatures extend even further. Holding Y makes Mario climb faster. and so on.

Turn the camera sensitivity up two notches, there's your problem. Fine after that.

New donk is amazing. The festival and that whole segment I had a smile on my face like a little kid.

So phenomenal

Forgot to add to my comment above... this game has a serious case of 'just one more' - finding it really hard to put down :D

I'm still feeling that even after getting every moon. Having Mario withdrawals.

I tried going back to Galaxy but the controls feel so different, so much less momentum in the movement. I don't want to replay Sunshine, and I've already played 64 to death. What to do.

If Odyssey had an end-game
Luigi unlock
like Galaxy did I would totally replay the whole thing again.

How in the world are you able to Wall Jump > Cap Throw > Slide to it for extra jump like i've seen so many do in speedruns? I assume it's harder on the classic controller which i'm using, is it? Because every time I try, the cap is always just regrabbed instead of giving me the extra jump.

When you do the dive, you need to keep holding Y, which prolongs the cap's hovering. Is that it?

After throwing Cappy (Y), tap and hold both (ZL and Y). That'll keep Cappy thrown and spinning at a stationary distance away to bounce on.

Game is great but after 45 hours and 600 moons I am bored. Every world repeats similar set of challenges (race cup, rabbit, art, ground pound, 2 moons in every stage, etc)

I spent over 120 hours in BOTW before a similar feeling sunk in (barely collected any korok seeds though) but it felt far less repetitive.

Both are great but I am moving on.

You can turn motion control off. Did you try that?

I wonder if Nintendo would bring new content pack for this game

Cannot beat the breaking platform area with the bullet bills in the post game, specifically the area on the bottom with what I assume is a secret moon if you lead the huge bill all the way. Your long jumps have to be perfect...

Yeah, you basically know what you have to do. You just have to execute. It's kind of a rhythm since I believe they're all the same distance apart.

Speaking of rhythm, I finally got the 100 jumps! People were right in that it was easier to jump with the scooter. The difficult part was positioning the scooter just right.

I thought the volleyball was much easier. I got that on my second try without the 2P trick.

Probably already said 10x in this thread but you cannot turn the waggle stuff off.

Disabling motion control in the settings only disables aiming with motion controls as far as I can tell.

The actions that require jerkinh around the controler you cannot turn off and there is no button equivalent

The post game moons are certainly more challenging.

I think I want to get as many moons as possible before facing the "Dark" side.

I've had issue with camera.. Though most of the time is great.. But the part I had issue were when the camera moved far away for some boss battles. I had a hard time knowing how close I was to the boss and took a hit a few times. Nothing major but something I noticed.

I've stopped playing the game to take a break. Those post game moons are definitely going to take a while. I'll be back to hunting them down after some time with Doom, LA Noire, RiME, Axiom Verge, and Skyrim. Goddam this little machine, I haven't played games this much since the GameCube.

I still think this is far behind super mario 64. Every level has the same bunch of things to do/ places to see like the bird thing, cap shop etc

I think its better than super mario sunshine, but its not the sequel to super mario 64 i was hoping for.

That game had real magic and was a joy to play from start to finish. The moons are a bit too easy and feel like coins rather than anything special imo.

Zelda is still the best game this year.
