Nintendo Switch 2 Can Run BOTW at 4K Res, 60 FPS; May Be Capable of Better Ray Tracing Than PS5/Xbox Series X

What's up with all these Unreal 5 mentions? Doesn't Fortnite run on UE5? That's a Switch game. Switch 2 can definitely run UE5. Not all UE5 looks omg wow realism. Even Unity ranges from Rust to Subnautica to Hollow Knight.

All these BS rumours. You know Nintendo will have to grow a big pair to compete properly. Otherwise it will be 1080p max on handheld if it is a handheld.

considering PS5 is struggling to even stay at 1080p, I am ok with a handheld at this resolution.

what a joke of a system these 2 consoles are. as soon as they see the letters UE5 they shit bricks and go 720p.

Lol, remember when reliable leakers said the Switch would perform close to a PS4 Pro? Well, this is probably yet another round of delusion from that same crowd. Like, be realistic... portable devices that cost around $1k can't do it, how would Nintendo be able to when they're pretty adamant of turning a profit on hardware from day one.

Switch was never ever going to be that strong. That wasn't a leak, it was made up. At best Switch was originally targeting Xbox One-ish specs, and was further refined prior to final hardware, in order to meet battery and performance targets.

People are going to be really disappointed when they find out these rumors are just rumors. Then people will get all mad and make hate videos about how the Nintendo console isn't what they dreamed in their heads. The Asus Rog Ally is $700 and I'm guessing the new Switch will be similar to that power with Nvidia tech behind it. Even then, how will they sell it for an affordable price? That goes against Nintendo's strategy. People obviously know this but are still going to clickbait and mislead people.

I think DLSS will go a long way to mask the huge gulf in performance between Switch successor and current-gen consoles. Still though, using Switch as the comparison, we are in for a substantial increase in performance, I think. Which is exciting.

yea and honestly unless BOTW add ray tracing. series S would easily run it 4k/60fps with out a upscaler.
From what Nate said, the BOTW demo did use ray tracing, but the focus of the demo was how load times had been eliminated (which Series S could also do.)
A special demo that showcases best capabilities of the device I suppose. Never saw Nintendo ran out of ideas about showcasing something made in-house.
If I remember correctly Nintendo didn't create their own tech demo for the Switch, but they did show developers the UE4 Elementals demo.

I guess when trying to get third party support, showing popular middleware is important

It will be 1080 max in portable mode, but more in docked mode.

Well they say it's just a tech demo, and df didn't saying anything about Ray tracing I'll have to wait and see but it would be cool if someone made thread and said predict where will switch power level end up.

Maybe you should check what these ue5 games run on even powerful nvda cards and it's not great.

Info from Nate the Hate podcast (will update as I listen):

Breath of the Wild demo running on Switch 2 had the following features:
- DLSS
- 4K Resolution
- 60 FPS
- Minimal load times (Apparently going from the title screen to the game was instant.)

About Switch:
- DLSS 3.5 possibly used, just not full feature set yet

It will also run N64 games in 16k resolution thanks to the power of DLSS

you had me at zero load times

since everyone and their cat will buy a switch 2 this might be the true breakthrough of RT due to lower resolutions and upscaling.

RT on Nvidia will always be better than RT on AMD.
Yes. on a stationary system with a full size GPU. Not a fucking 7 inch tablet.

If this is really a Switch 2, then most if not all of these rumors are 100% fake. Look at mobile phones, do you see them running anything close to consoles at the moment?

OK when you said 4 digit I thought you meant 4k, just reading quickly here. But I don't understand why having a higher price equates to selling at a loss? If anything it just means N can give us better hardware without sacrificing a margin on HW sales? I was thinking the same thing, OLED is just a potato Switch and that sells for $350. $50 more for a Switch 2 that plays Matrix 2 demo doesn't seem a stretch to me. HOWEVER I do think it would be more susceptible to price cuts and HW revisions than OG Switch. $399 would just be opening salvo then they pivot based on reaction
It equates to selling at a loss because if they go towards a $449 mark or even $499 to create a complete beast mode that's even more superior than a Series S then they'd 100% be selling at a loss at that point assuming they are as good as a PS5/Series X NOT the Series S. Also, PS5 Pro will be out by then for most likely at a $499 which will be 100% sold at a loss and will be far superior to the Switch 2. Nintendo would need to sell their machine at like $700 at that point to make profit. Nintendo will NOT be putting their price as high as that with their competition. It will always be lower.

Again, this is based on crazy predictions if these rumors are even half true. I don't see Nintendo joining the graphics race at PS5 or Series X equalvant. Series S is possible, but not above. There are so many other factors that we have consider as well in the price including battery life, screen type, size, docked/undocked etc... it's very hard to say. $399 I can see max at a Series S equal if they want to sell at profit. $449 is wishful thinking, I'd love for that Nintendo to join the power race but I doubt it be happening at such a high level. They found what works really well for them.

For all know none of us have any clue what the hell we are talking about either. These rumors could all be false as well. And as I said before Nintendo is unpredictable. Long story short, we gonna have to wait to find out.

Being a higher price doesn't necessarily mean it's "complete beast mode" and better than Series S. Being $399 is what would allow Nintendo to deliver a handheld that even begins to trade blows with Series S, not surpass it. That's why I want them to lift the price.

Higher price = lower margins, you heard it here first...lol.

You have a severe selective reading problem and reading comprehension. I even agreed with you I could see $399 as max but not higher than that. But keep quoting me with your nonsense, it's amusing. I gave you a detailed answer that explains my reasoning. You come in here with a shitty paragraph that has nothing to do with what I said. You cannot read or you read too fast.

Ah huh.

I am not sure if Nintendo will do $399. they never sell their consoles at a loss so why change that now? PS5 Pro will be out by that time (assuming rumors are true) and will most likely replace the standard PS5 and cost $499 and the PS5 will now be $399 or $349. Max I see for switch is $349 not above.

You made it seem like selling at $399 would equate to selling at a loss, then when we question that go into la la land of Nintendo handheld being $449-500...which still does not prove it would be sold at a loss, as crazy as that price point is.

3DS sold 80 million sales. certainly not a failure by any stretch of the imagination. Elder Legend Elder Legend and it certainly wasn't horrible, either. Not even the Wii U was bad when you take into account its game library, which is why like 40% of the Switch First Party is legitimately just Wii U ports.
It didn't do bad, but 3DS is good example of why Nintendo fans care about price.

That isn't cause for disappointment considering how fast and powerful the Ally is. If it were that good i'd be quite pleased actually

So the Matrix demo runs better on Switch 2 than on consoles that use 20x the volume and power consumption?

Of course it will be very capable, but it will also be downclocked significantly in order to preserve battery life and cool operation so it doesn't burn your hands.

lol whut

you don't need a 1k portable gaming PC to have better than PS4 pro performance, the ROG Ally exists. The cpu in that can play pretty much anything. It's not a PS5 but not underpowered either

We wouldn't want paying customers to have good performance for once.
hey i don't want Switch2 games to perform poorly. if the new hardware enables 1080p 60 on every new release and a boost to perf on older titles too thats great, i want switch 2 players to have a great experience with their new system...

But i like my yuzu. I dont really like having to pull out my switch to finish up a game or two. 🤷‍♂️

Running botw at 60 with dlss is totally reasonable.

But all these fakers telling people to expect the best RT and performance equal to or better than current "next gen" systems are just causing shit... its not going to happen.

Please don't get caught up in all the nonsense, these shit peddlers should be banned as sources now before this starts getting worse.

We are two leakers away from switch 2 being 1440p with OLED screen that has native apple AR glass support and what ever dumb shit you want to add to the list.

I remember people expecting the OG switch to be "as strong as ps4" before it was fully announced and they were pretty damn wrong

The best was the new 3ds... "insiders" claimed it was like equal to GameCube or something silly and it ended up just being a little bigger wirh a circle pad and a slightly stronger internals that slightly help performance in like 3 games

UE5 is unstable and shit on the strongest PCs... the engine isn't there yet but will be eventually and the consoles much like the PC (and even mobile because Epic focus on scalability) will all run (hopefully) smoother

The new 3DS was more powerful than the gamecube by a large margin, though. Just didn't have the games to really show it (outside of like Minecraft)

This reminds me of the Wii U Japanese temple demo. Sure it showed off nice graphical capabilities but it was just a demo, not a full fledged game.

Wii U was slow and couldn't pull that type of performance off on a full fledged game.

So sure Switch 2 demos show plenty of horsepower but we need to take our expectations down a few notches on how full fledged games will perform. PS4 Pro plus is my optimistic prediction.
