Notch calls out Yogscast as "an isolated island of egos".

I'm not sure the Yogscast guys having a 10 man entourage particularly undermines the claim that they're acting like divas to be honest.

Most of those 10 people are part of the crew that works with them on their Minecraft videos. If they were divas they wouldn't be bringing the rest of the crew along to meet fans and enjoy Minecon. If you had bothered to watch the IGN video that was posted earlier in the thread you would know this.

So they rehearsed it in front of the organisers? They didn't get paid? The only evidence of them in contact with fans is positive?

Why are people still defending Notch in the slightest when there's not a modicum of proof in what he said. In fact he knew his main point was flat out bullshit given the rehearsal. What a twat.

Yeah, because they were groupies and not people they work on their stuff with. What fucking divas.

(Though I do agree that many people probably weren't needed.)

When they went to Gamescom on Sonys dime earlier this year to promote Minecraft on the Xperia Play, it was only Simon and Lewis who attended.

So maybe that 10 man entourage weren't strictly necessary for them to do what they do after all.

Sony mightve been better prepped for them, I dont know.

Personally, they should just talk this out amongst themselves, publicly chalk it up as a misunderstanding, and move on.
Airing it out on twitter and getting crazy internet "minions" involved was a bad idea to begin with. No use carrying it out publicly anymore.

Nifty AND saffron-colored!
They brought like 1 person for security and the rest were all crew or contributors to the Yogscast, which they brought because THEY'RE IMPORTANT TO THE YOGSCAST, and thus the fans probably appreciated it. all you weirdos jumping on the Yogscast the minute notch's dumb twitter post went up are kinda fucking stupid.

Props to the Yogscast for handling this like adults and props to IGN for being such a nice bunch.

Well he was blowing the Panel thing out of proportion. If you cant trust Notch on that, then the rest of credibility falls apart.

Wasn't it some random reddit user who talked about their panel? I don't recall Notch mentioning their panel at all.

The funniest thing I've read about Minecon is the Deadmau5 concert not being exclusive like they wanted it to be and them getting crowded out by club regulars.

Huh? I haven't heard of that. A lot of people couldn't get into the club because the security was really tight. Prince Harry and Steve Wynn apparently showed up.

There is a significant difference between Gamescom and Minecon. Gamescom they were there to promote a product. Minecon they were there to promote their channel and crew and to meet fans. I imagine they would want to bring their entire crew who works on their Minecraft videos to Minecon. I know I certainly would if I was in their position.

The craziest thing for me is that Notch sold the live stream of the Yogscast panel to IGN without even telling them =\

Ya, it is kind of sad but what do you expect when word gets out that Deadmau5 is playing.

This is all that fans from both sides should really care about. Just bury it as fast as possible and settle things privately between both parties involved. Move on and fix the server key bugs in 1.0 final. Please. '_'

They said repeatedly that they wanted to go to Minecon to meet fans and the commuinity as none of what they do would be possible without them.

I'd also assume (as they seem not to be twats) they they would want their whole crew to also meet those fans and community members. They weren't necessary really as Simon and Lewis are the 'stars' but they wanted to bring along the whole crew as they all put effort into the Yogscast.

Yeah, unless there was a clause in some contract they wrote up (which would fall under 'telling them'), that shit is actually illegal. Which is probably why IGN gave back the video to Yogscast.

... this is assuming Yogscast's side is accurate. It is kind of amusing seeing people decrying other's for taking Notch's words at face value then proceeding to do exactly the same thing for Yogscast.

This feels like Jurassic Park Jeep all over again.

i haven't played minecraft in about 4 months, and i come back to all this arguing between an overnight millionare and a bunch of youtube internet superstars.

arguing between a bunch of neckbeard nerds makes me rethink this game. a little bit.

I still enjoying tooling around in it, but good LORD Mojang is a bunch of idiots.

The Yogscast crew didn't start the public Internet nerd fight, so it's slightly easier to sympathize with their defense and version of events as they saw it. Notch is likely guilty of overreacting to second-hand information and nothing more, and the tone of the Yogscast reply to the controversy is probably respecting that.

That's it really. Should not have aired such grievances without talking out with the guys in the first place. Still, it's good to see that this was all just a misunderstanding, resolved easily enough with no bloodshed. And yeah, mods may wish to change the thread title to reflect this.

Which brings up a couple of issues

1- where the hell is Mojang's Public Relations person? I assume he has someone hired for that in his brand new company

2- Notch's twitter account has always been used a mix of personal and business related content. a window into the progress of a growing game company. In a way unadulterated insight into the minds which make our games. However this incident shows a grim side of being so open. What kind of effect might this have in the gamer-gaming company relations of the future?

That depends on if you call terrible PR, libel, heresy, and questionable legality behind selling stream rights to IGN bloodshed. Also, the ongoing yogscast.com DDOS.

This.

And regardless of what should or shouldn't have been said on Twitter or Reddit, anyone who brought this shit into real life needs to get their head screwed on straight. If you're so blindly devoted to Yogscast or Notch that you will harass/DDOS/cause-any-harm-to one side or the other, you're the worst kind of person. And both sides should come out publicly and denounce that sort of shitty behavior.

Considering all the trouble he caused them over basically a bunch of fabrications, he really owes them a better apology than a few twitter statements. The best way he can turn this around is to announce that it's inspired him to hire a PR person.

Tsk tsk tsk. So he isn't going to apologize? Pretty poor form.

Notch said:
It's likely the entire Yogscast scenario is just stress related misunderstanding. I apologize for bringing it online before talking to them.

Are you going to apologize for saying multiple times that Notch made false claims about their panel, when he didn't even mention it? Poor form indeed.

I did not lie.

Okay. So that's amazing. The fact that he won't relent on his side of the story after Yogs has tried to tell theirs.

At least try to come to an understanding.

Astounding how some of you take these twitter messages so damn seriously

What difference does he make where he said it? Notch's off-hand twitter statements may as well have been in a press release considering how many stories there have been about it.

Well. When he's called out, and instead of being calm like he said he would be, he goes "I didn't lie", and then shuts up. That's rather telling.

Either he wants to be friends again or he doesn't.

Just read the updates on all this drama. Very interesting. I'm really curious what Notch was exactly referring to if Yogscast didn't do anything wrong. I like Mojang, don't get me wrong (never really paid attention to Yogscast before this drama), but I really don't like the way they do business sometimes.

From what I can make out, it sounds like Notch heard second hand that they were dicks, possibly from event staff who had been working long hours on a badly organised show and might have had some issue with the "Brits" being Brits (dry, sarcastic etc...) or something, at least that's what it seems like.

Just caught a link to this twitter post: http://twitter.com/#!/notch/status/139529182429454336

Notch drops 5k on a watch but can't afford to sponser his business partners*?

*I'm talking about the other notable attendees as well, not just Yogscast. Everything I keep reading just makes me question Mojangs competence with regards to Minecon. They desperately need a good PR/Event Organiser.

Also can someone tell me, is Notch Autistic? I keep seeing comments about it elsewhere.

lol wow. Really?

Then again I'm one of those people that just uses their phone as a time piece now and even when I wore watches never saw the point in paying absurd amounts for them.

Though I guess if you're uber rich then expensive stuff like that might seem more attractive. Though If I was rich I'd buy things like boats and super big TVs not expensive watches (maybe a nice expensive fitted suit though).
