Notch calls out Yogscast as "an isolated island of egos".

Here was their panel at Minecon hosted by IGN:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPd9oci4ers

Some curse words early on but nothing really bad or offensive. The audience looked like they were really enjoying it.

There panel was a video? That's kind of... dumb?

I've never seen the Yogcast videos but they just seem not funny. On that note though, couldn't the Yogcast members just lie about the fact they were approached by a Notch fan? How would people even know what they look like, live, and what plane they were on if all they do are machinima videos.

I think its best if we wait for a response from Simon & Lewis. Some of you guys will look like fools when it turns out to be Notch who was in the wrong here.

Looks like 70% of the people in this thread have already passed judgement because 'Notch said so'. This is like the Telltale Jeep-gate.

I could do a wall of shame with this multi-quote function, but i CBF.

At least you're the impartial arbiter.

Edit: I see I was already beaten.

Okay, first they're the bad buys because Notch said so. Then they might be the good guys and Notch is lying. Now they're making it all up for publicity at Notch's expense. Or are they all in it together? Because that'd b a stupid publicity stunt. Whether or not Notch is in on it.

Was i right?

Notch was blowing the whole panel thing way way way way way way way out of proportion. Nothing was offensive about it. As the above poster said looks like the audience enjoyed it.

We’re sure many of you have seen or heard about Notch’s post-Minecon tweets, which were not what we expected to see when we got off the plane from Minecon – we’ve had a sleep now and recovered a bit, so this is our response:

We are very disappointed by these tweets from someone we admire and respect. We can understand that it was the morning after the deadmau5 party and Notch was very tired, but we are still fairly upset. The quotes and actions that Notch attributed to us were not said by us or published anywhere by us. Therefore we are surprised and confused about where this stuff has come from - especially since the only time we spoke to Notch was at the interview.

Regarding dropping f-bombs at the show - we apologise for this, but had rehearsed the whole show in front of the organisers and half of Mojang and they had approved it. We were given no guidelines or oversight in the weeks leading up to Minecon and there were ample opportunities at the rehearsal for Mojang to inform us of problems, such as being careful about swearing, which is pretty common in our youtube videos.

Out of all the tweets that Notch sent out, most hurtful was the accusation that we told a kid to “fuck off” and crossed out another signature – which is something we would never ever do.

We loved spending time with fans and were overwhelmed by how many people were there to support us and give us gifts. Simon has enough Jaffas to last him until the middle of 2012. The problem was that Minecon is a new show and organisation was pretty bad, and when we came to the scheduled signing sessions, nothing had been set up for us and we had to scrabble around to fetch tables, ropes and pens ourselves. With some younger kids around, it was our priority to make sure everything was safe, as we have seen injuries in the past.

This lack of organization contributed to long and confused lines and we were heartbroken to have to turn away so many people when we ran out of time. Simon can only handle a certain amount of time between cups of coffee and nicotine tablets before collapsing, but we made a real effort to get out there and managed to do about six hours of signing. Although we were frustrated, we would never have treated fans in the way that Notch suggested we did.

We were also unhappy and surprised that a week before Minecon, Mojang informed us that they had sold the rights to livestream our show and content to IGN – they hadn’t asked us, they hadn’t spoken to us – they just sold it. Because of this, we nearly cancelled the trip, but decided to say “balls to it” and come anyway, because we felt we owed it to the fans. Hannah actually spoke with IGN directly earlier, and they agreed to take their video down and let us put the videos up on our channel, so a big thanks to them for that.

We were not paid, and never demanded to be paid. We asked for some support, and Mojang said they could offer us two hotel rooms for the duration of the stay and a small boardroom to rest in. We spent a huge amount of money on flights, rooms, food and equipment for the 10 people that we brought along to support us, act as security, make videos/posts and generally help out. We also gave away 100 special t-shirts for free.

The reason we came to Minecon is because we wanted to thank you guys and meet the community that we love and are a part of. We couldn’t have gotten to where we are now without you guys, and so we decided to eat the costs of attending and just have fun. This is why we spent our panel giving a voice to loads of talented people that couldn’t attend but have made Minecraft what it is today.

We’re not gonna stop making videos, not going to stop loving you guys, and hopefully we’ll see you at more gaming conventions in the future.

See. Notch is the one who was wrong. Passing off hearsay statements as facts.

Thread title needs to be updated to reflect a statement from Simon and Lewis.

Yup,From all I have see of the Yogscast they never came off as uncaring to the fans. And the bad mouths are just part of the experince with them. Notch really needs to speak with them in private and sort all this out.

Yup. This sounds about right. Misunderstandings, hearsay, and poor planning for the convention.

And only paying for two rooms for invited guest presenters at a $100-per-ticket event is a bit on the rude side, in my humble opinion.

Not sure why everyone is just going to automatically accept their statement as hard facts now.

I'm not saying they're lying, but frankly this isn't "the truth" coming out, this is now Notch's word vs. theirs, and until both sides come to an agreement on what transpired there's no way any of us can really be sure who's in the right.

Probably some shitty knockoff. Only good Jaffa is a McVities Jaffa.

Notch's twitter babble versus a full on statement and run down of the whole event. I know who I'm more inclined to believe at this point. Been following the YogsCast for years, I know what Notch said was bullshit but kept my mouth shut till Simon and Lewis had responded. The statement sounds exactly like them and they aren't ones for making shit up.

Yep 2 rooms is pretty dam weak.

The Yogscast guys had to pay for

-Food
-Flights
-Equipment
-Rooms for the other 10 guys
-100 + T-Shirts

Notch should be ashamed and so should the people pre-judging the Yogscast.

So Notch is in the wrong because a comment from Yogscast says so? Seems we're going round in circles here.

Until Notch has some hard evidence of these things happening and not just a bunch of hearsay and rumors I think I'll side with the Yogscast. I've been watching their videos and listening to their podcasts for a while now and they are not the kind of people who would do what Notch claims he heard about them.

So now we've been given both sides accounts of what went down during Minecon. I wouldn't be so quick to believe either is the full truth. I doubt Notch would just spread bad word on Yogcast for the fun of it. Something must have happened between them to sour the experience a bit.

As for Yogcast, they may have seen themselves as being their normal cheerful selves and felt no harm was done.

More information from anyone involved outside of both of these two groups would be appreciated. Because they can both say anything they want to make themselves look good. I think both sides carry some blame. So let's not be too hasty to throw stones at either party here...

Notch is the one that comes off as the ass of this situation because all the information he offered has been drive-by potshots with no particular details, and ended it with a "Forget I said anything" kind of attitude. Of course, that can change if he can manage a convincing rebuttal.

$100 per ticket? Are you serious? How many people came to the event? I feel really bad for all those parents who were strong-armed by their kids to pay for two / three tickets now!

They're awesome, be quiet.

Because I've watched most of their videos and have had direct anonymous contact with one of them before, and Notch's claims don't match up with what I've experienced. Plus they outright denied the "fuck you" fan incident, so you would, in fact, be calling them liars if that did happen. I'm not saying it didn't, but I'd consider denying a bad thing you did "lying".

^ This. If your going to call out somebody over something they supposedly did better have something to back it up.

Plus I don't know why someone would side with haphazard, stress induced tweets about what a person heard happened with no discernible evidence over a measured, thought out statement. I really don't.

To be fair I doubt they are hurting for money when they bring 10 other guys to 'generally help out'.

The funniest thing I've read about Minecon is the Deadmau5 concert not being exclusive like they wanted it to be and them getting crowded out by club regulars.

I'm not sure the Yogscast guys having a 10 man entourage particularly undermines the claim that they're acting like divas to be honest.

This was my immediate reaction.

But still, I'd hope they (meaning Yogscast and Notch) are able to work out what really happened, what caused the problems, and kiss-and-make-up.

Until that happens, I just think it's a shitty situation that resulted from a few misunderstandings and a poorly managed convention.
