I need to know this too, i guess we'll find out....friday.

Yeah, would be a shame to miss out. Guess they're not being specific, just put the sale out there until they've gotten rid of enough. Stupid getting paid every 2 weeks.

I have one of these on its way from Best Buy (thank you, Black Friday) and I'm wondering what the process is like for transferring information to a new 360. I don't think I'll need my saves or anything, but will simply logging in with my gamertag allow me to re-download all of the content I want?

You can copy your game saves to a USB stick and transfer them from one to another that way (a small amount of games protect their saves and don't allow them to be copied though).

As for Marketplace content such as your XBLA games and any other content that you've downloaded in the past, first go to http://www.xbox.com/drm and transfer your DRM license to the the new console. Then just login to your new console and redownload your stuff from the download history (or set it up to where you can download the stuff from Xbox.com, probably much easier to do it that way).

If you can get a transfer cable everything just transfers straight over AFAIK.

I think the only downside is if you have multiple XBL accounts on your old Xbox. In that scenario, all Marketplace content is available to all accounts on your Xbox.

But as soon as you move accounts to the new Xbox and re-download Markteplace content, I think it's only accessible to the XBL account that purchased the content in the first place.

I only think about this because my son and I have have separate XBL accounts and we share an Xbox.

So I managed to nab a 360 for black friday at Best buy.

I was wondering what people would recommend as a good HDMI cable for the system.

My Best Buy still had plenty available at 11:30 after I stopped by a Sam's that was sold out of them. Deal was too good to pass up.. my Elite has been full for a year or two so I was thrilled to get the bigger HD. Amazed at how small it seems and how freaking quiet it is! Crazy. Anyone wanna buy my Halo Reach download code or Fable 3 off me? Heh.

Wow thanks the prices there are insanse

Monoprice is a great option but I also recommend the Amazon Basics HDMI cable. A little more but if you have Prime, that helps balance it out.

Anything not from that site is likely a huge rip off.
I still recommend Monoprice, however 1 cable I bought from there was faulty. After about 15 minutes of use, the screen will constantly flicker to a black screen every once in a while. And the more you use it, the worse it gets. Eventually the screen will flicker every few seconds.

All my other cables are fine however.

I'm coming from an OG 360, and not hearing anything from the system is a godsend. In process of transferring my HDD content to the new system.

Kind of OT but, is Fable 3 worth playing. I liked Fable 2, but I remember there being mixed reviews for 3. Not sure if I'll keep the one that came with my system.

It's pretty good -- if you enjoyed 2 then you'll probably like it. I played it upon release myself otherwise I definitely would not get rid of it.

I'm starting to get buyer's remorse before actually receiving the thing. I already own a launch 20GB, but the HD is small (obviously), it's loud, and it lacks HDMI/WiFi. But these are all inconveniences that I could live with, and have for a long time.

Has anyone else felt this way, but was impressed enough with the box itself that your worries went away? I got it for $200 through the Best Buy sale, but I should probably make this decision before opening it.

There's not much helping it if your mind is already set, but I vastly prefer my S to my old jasper model. It's just a whole lot more pleasant to use, a whole lot more.

I found it easier to just buy a bigger hard drive. I managed to pick up a 250 GB for $60 new. But ultimately, it's your decision.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?

Actually, I feel exactly the opposite. I was still rocking a Day Zero launch 360. It's loud, the controller has a hard time syncing, my 20GBs of space has been full for like five years, there's no wifi, the disc drive is stubborn, etc, etc. I knew it was on its last leg, so when we started hearing the deals, I knew it was time to get a replacement to 1) last me until the end of the generation, and 2) to be reliable enough that I know I can store it for 5+ years and come back to a working console a couple generations from now.

So, I traded in my launch system to Gamestop for $95 in credit. I imagine I can sell that credit or use it toward games I'd buy anyway, so I can think of a $200 bundle as basically being half paid for.

I have two consoles coming in the mail:

1. Xbox 360 250GB Holiday Bundle from Best Buy - $207
2. Xbox 360 4GB System + Kinect + $50 Giftcard - $204

Debating which one I want. I definitely need the bigger HDD of the former, but I can add that to the latter. Wish Amazon would have had a deal on the 250GB Slim Drive. Either way, which ever I don't use I can probably sell for more than I bought it for, anyway. Can't wait!

It's ultimately the same console that plays the same games — there's really not that much different about it aside from the things that you mentioned. It's remarkable that your launch unit has lasted this long, but unless it's rarely used, it's probably not going to last forever (mine lasted 4 1/2 years). It might be worth it to go for it and sell your existing model while it still works. I wouldn't say the same for someone using a later model 360, but those launch units are definitely iffy.

I forgot to mention that it's been repaired once, but the problem was with the disc drive and not the red ring. But yeah, a big part of why I want the slim Xbox is that I can't imagine this thing will last much longer.

Skellington: you could always just keep the Kinect bundle and buy a hard drive with a third-party enclosure for it.

help!!

I just got one of these and an hdmi cable. Now, I tried turning it on with just the hdmi cable plugged in, but nothing came up. So I plugged in the composite cables and the picture showed up. I want to switch outputs to the hdmi cable though to play in HD, but the composite cable blocks the port. How do I automatically switch the output??

Try this:

Also...this is going to sound dumb but did you change the source on your TV to display the HDMI input?

I think it was just a bad port... I switched it to a different HDMI port on the TV and it automatically switched just fine.

Unfortunately XBOX live sign-up isn't available right now. Damn.

So, I decided to get the new xbox and I put my profile and game files on a flash to transfer it. I put the flash drive in my slim, the memory is all gone. Damn..

Did you try plugging in the HDMI and Composite and then switch to HDMI under settings and change the source on your TV?

Fry's Electronics has really cheap HDMI cables too (that are pretty good quality)

One reason I want to get rid of Elite and move to latest model is I bought X41 super expensive wireless headphones but then I went to hook them up and realized I would need to use some sort of strange adapter than hangs off the back of the 360, I didn't think I even had one until I realized it came with the Elite and went and searched in a big box of random cables and finally found it...also I can't get the 320GB HDD

I just feel like I might as well wait until this one craps out or get a Jpn Slim instead, but I guess I wouldn't be able to use the same games/account on two different system regions/countries?

I have a transfer cable from when I upgraded my xbox fat from a 20gig to a 120gig. Am I going to need a different transfer cable to go from 120 fat HD to my new Slim HD? Are the ports the same?

Try it, but not all cables work.

The alternative is to move the saves using a USB. I did the other from a 120GB HDD to a 250GB HDD

I think you should be able to use the same cable as long as your 120GB drive is in the old MS hard drive enclosures.

I went ahead and bit on the 250GB Slim from Best Buy for $200. I figure once I trade in my old falcon the difference will be well worth it for an upgraded console, two games I don't own and 3 months of Live.

Does anybody know what the trade in value is at GameStop for 20GB 360 with all the cables, controller, headset and original packaging?

I also need to know this.

I traded in a 20 GB console with 1 controller, component cables and power cord. I received $95 but that was WITH the added $50. I also traded in an extra controller ($14 I think) and a wireless adapter ($16 I think.

I used the same cable for mine. Transfer cable attaches to the USB port so there should not be an issue at all.

lol GameStop is such a joke. But eBay is pretty much just as bad about raping you so I guess the options are pretty limited. I wish Amazon took console trade-ins.

Maybe I'll just keep the 20GB as a back up or as a Netflix player for the bedroom.

Gamestop gave me 90$ on black friday for an old 20GB Xbox. Because of the extra trade in value for consoles. Really good deal. Well.. compared to regular Gamestop.

You can buy a new 4gb slim for $150 right now, how much do you really think you should get for an old 20gb system?

Woah the 250GB Holiday Bundles are Matte finish? Are all 360s now matte, or is it just for the holiday bundle and 4gb?

Is it worth upgrading to the slim-box now?

I have the old XB with 20GB HDD which SUCKSSS.. oh and HDMI seems to have stopped working for some reason so now Im on components

Sweet, it's a win-win for me. I kind of wanted to just get a 4GB and put my current HDD in so I could have matte and it was cheaper. But with the Black Friday deals of $199 for the 250GB bunde I had to get it, and that's matte too  (waiting to receive it from newegg) I'm going to have to get a HDD transfer cable now though.

Anyone who has an old Xbox HDD, from when they upgrade to the 250gb Xbox, I'd like to buy it off of you.

Thanks!

I ended up finding a leftover shiny 360 250gb model at Best Buy with Halo Reach and fable 3 bundled for the $199.

Already have a matte 250Gb. Was pretty happy about that since they're no longer produced.

What's the process for me to copy what's on my current 360 to the new one?

for saves you can simply get a thumb drive and put both saves and gamertag on it and copy that way. For your DLC and any other content you downloaded you can simply do a mass download which is allowed once a year or pick and choose what you want to redownload from your history when logged in your gamertag on the new console.

You have to transfer your profile, THEN your saves. Right?

The crazy good deals on Slims have me considering replacing my Jasper.

I forget but if all you're doing is transferring saves you could just wait until the new dashboard update and put your saves on the cloud.

My non-Microsoft Slim HDD doesn't have the BC partition. If i get a new, official HDD and transfer all the content to it, will it recognize it's the same console and just start working right away, or will i have to do the DRM "new console" thingy?

Thanks.
