Want to venture deeper into the Dreamcast library. Recommend some awesome games.

I've had a Dreamcast for a while, but have not given it the attention it deserves.

Forgive me :0

I have played these Dreamcast games:

Crazy Taxi
Sonic Adventure
Shenmue I - II
Jet Grind Radio
Rez
Ikaruga
RE: Code Veronica
Power Stone 2

As you can see, I am open to any genre. Would love a Dreamcast RPG "rpg itch"

Recommend it, even if it's an obscure game released only in Antarctica. I'll do research, and if it's good, I shall get it.

HAIL DREAMCAST

I find the Dreamcast library to be pretty shallow, and it's the least of the big three Sega consoles in my mind. But that said, give these a shot:

Maken X (first person sword fighting game)
Sword of the Berserk (3rd person hack 'n slash based on the manga/anime)
Space Channel 5 (rhythm/dance game)
Grandia II (RPG)
Skies of Arcadia (best bet for a good RPG and a must-try)

Might also try Typing of the Dead (need a keyboard) if you want something quirky and fun and Gundam 0079 if you like mech sims.

A good list here:

You've played Shenmue and Shenmue 2, but have you played What's Shenmue? After that, buy the Japanese version of Virtua Fighter 3 and watch the Yu Suzuki interview disc.

Guess which game he talks about.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
Tokyo Bus Guide.

...yes. Just shut up and play it (import only, though)

I liked this, also Get Colony! - "!" is part of the title. Nice multiplayer (2-4) puzzle game that's like an opposite of Othello I guess.

-Blue Stinger - it's mediocre but has enough charm to make me replay it a few times.
-Carrier - Haven't played much of it myself, but heard it's a decent low budget RE clone
-Gundam Side Story - I have it and from what little I've played, it's decent.
-D2 - It's a unique game that has it's share of flaws, but I still loved it for some reason.

What's the name of that online tank game where you fought against aliens? You could play as the Aliens too.

Loved that game, one of my first online experiences.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 (if you don't already have it)
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Rayman 2: The Great Escape

Otherwise, you played all the good ones games already. Jet Grind Radio is arguably the DC's best game that's worth playing. Everyone else's recommendations are good too.

Phantasy Star Online. Do it. Do it right now.

Might need a time machine or some sort of secret knowledge to have the same good time though.

Chu Chu Rocket.

Jet Set Radio.

Headhunter.

Cosmic Smash.

Space Channel 5 Part 2.

Rez (Project-K Beta Version).

Powerstone.

Seaman.

Samba De Amigo if you've got a few dollars.

Crazy Taxi 2.

Alien Front Online. Came with a microphone in a bundle pack like Seaman. Really good graphics.

Sonic Adventure 2 is excellent. The only problem is gem hunting with Knuckles and Rouge, but if you can tolerate that every now and then, it's tons of fun. The Sonic and Shadow levels are great. And it still looks great thanks to dat 60 FPS.

DCX

DCX
Zombie Revenge
Grandia 2
Skies of Arcadia
Power Stone
Chu Chu Rocket
Sword of Beserk
Blue Stinger
Trickstyle
Speed Devils

There are more but these off the top of my head were games I loved.

I've been meaning to buy Skies of Arcadia and Grandia 2 for ages, are the dreamcast versions THE versions to get or are the gamecube and ps2 versions, respectively, better?

IIRC the GC version of SoA has less random battles, so maybe that's the best version? I played it on the DC and loved it.

The Dreamcast version of Skies of Arcadia supports progressive scan over the VGA cable, so that's the one I prefer because of my HDTV. I think Grandia 2 is universally accepted to be worse on PS2; it's buggy and looks like crap.

I wish Headhunter wasn't a PAL exclusive.

Not sure which version of Skies is better overall, but avoid the PS2 version of Grandia 2 at all costs, as it is a mess. The DC version is far superior.

Giant Gram
Giant Gram 2000
Fire Pro Wrestling D
Fighting Vipers 2
Mars Matrix
Shenmue 1+2 <duh>
Jet Grind<set> Radio
Project Justice

That's all I can think of so far.

* Quake III: Arena
* Virtua Tennis
* SEGA Bass Fishing
* Sonic Adventure 2
* Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2
* Rayman 2: Great Escape
* Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II (even just single player, I never went online and it was my favorite game for the system)

Hard to justify playing the Dreamcast version of Quake III in this day and age, but at least you can use a mouse and keyboard. To you Dreamcast PSO fans, which is the best to play for single player offline? PSO or PSO v2.0?

Alexios

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Damn, I wish I had Record of Lodoss War instead of shitty Silver back then...

LOL. Silver was okay for an early Playstation port. But yeah, I feel you.

No one mentioning Bangai-O??

Not sure what I think of Bangai-O. I know we're all tolerant of bad graphics in the retro camp but the game looks like shit (N64 roots, thanks a ton) and its definitely an odd game. I need to read up on the mechanics and give it more playtime.
