That dress is disgusting in concept, but looks pretty damn hot on her.

Anyone else have a Heavies map to submit for CC consideration? Forge World variants are allowed now. I've only gotten two submissions so far (thanks Duncan for his Highlands variant)

Just checked and I've played far more games per day of Reach than 3. Took the entire lifecycle of Halo 3 for me to hit ~2,500 games played, I'm already at ~1,800 for Reach.

I average 9.9 games of reach a day.

:|

Nerd. Id like to average around 10 games a day but honestly one nukeade fest on countdown or some shitty Z tier forge map. Getting screwed over by some other terrible "feature" and i dont want to play it again for at least 3 days

I've heard a rumor Frankie has chosen Lady Gaga to play the part of the Librarian in an upcoming Halo-themed Holiday-on-Ice attraction planned for the release of Halo 4 around next Christmas.

I quite enjoyed the visuals in most of the levels.

The music is is the worst of the series though (or the least good).

Musically I feel that Reach was the most forgettable, it had some fantastic music, but nothing anywhere near on par with ODST, which was sort of the benchmark. A benchmark very few games have hit.

Visually though its not that Reach is ugly, its just that theres not much variety and I feel as though its a bit muddy at times. Spartan's are smaller and tend to blend in, unlike the overly blocky spartans from Halo 3. This makes a world of difference in things like snipes where in Reach people can be stealthy just by crouching in one spot. The general re use of colours and semi washed out look and feel of some maps put me off, but I think thats down to the engine rather than the art design.

Quite honestly, as a designer my self, I don't buy the whole "everything is art its ok!" argument at all. Just like shitty design, there is shitty music. It may not be the worst thing in the world, but its shallow.

Take Coldplay's new album. No matter how you feel about coldplay, some of their older albums are fantastic and deep, moving, they server a purpose. They provoke thought.

Their new album "every tear drop is a water fall" is, like gaga music, shallow, sugar coated, and piss poor music.

An example, this song was excluded off the new album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-KsutWy3UU It is beautiful

To contrast, the less than awesome song on their album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbOkjctth7s
This song is awful, taking taste out of it, its forced, its shallow

Now I'm sure some of you think I just don't like the style the album took, not true at all, the song "Paradise" I think manages to be pretty good

We have bad movies

We have bad design

We have bad video games

We have bad art, this, to me, again to ME is a truth.

Music is no exception, its not about what time period its from for me, but if you are making the music because someone else told you to pluck the strings, it ain't music, or at least its not good music.

I make the same argument with abstract art, yes it is art, but if its just splattering paint onto a board in 10 min than sorry, it blows.

Can you imagine the shit I get having these thoughts and being an art student myself?

Also guys, if you don't agree with me, that's cool, but these are just my thoughts and opinions on the issue.

_________________________________________________________________________

I think the auto tune bothers me a too. If you use it as an artistic tool that's fine, but if you use it to trick the people listening to it that you actually sound that good fuck off.

wow

Reach had the worst art direction of any Halo game bar none.

Just wanted to drop my thoughts on this. IMO Reach had fantastic art direction, but some of the set pieces were very simple compared to the grand vistas of Halo 1-3. My main complaint would be the graininess of the image, and while I think the colors were fine, I do agree that some shouldn't have been so muted. Truthfully, while Halo 3 has these grand set pieces, they were so simple and empty that I cant say much for the game other than its skyboxes/lighting. I would love to see the attention to detail of Reach mixed with something more grand, alien, etc.

If this post is a bit choppy its because Im at the hospital now on an hour of sleep, my great grandma is in the ICU. Just trying to occupy my time.

A little LTTP on this but:

Halo 3: 10,789 Total Games Played (Jan. 08-Now)
Halo Reach: 6300 Total Games played (Launch till now)

Dunno If I'll break 10k games by Halo 4.

Dude, why? Why are you destroying my favorite Star Wars scene with this? It'll be okay if it was a prequel scene but this? :(

Heh, if anything I wish the prequels would have copied that same sequence. It's one of my favorite scenes in the entire franchise and I have no problem knowing it was patterned after WWII movies.

I was just teasing StarWolf because I think Red Tails is going to be another George Lucas CG-fest.

Total games of Halo 2: 3755
Total games of Halo 3: 1661
Total games of Reach: 918

Just proof that Halo 2 is still the best.

For myself, it's proof that I had more time to play.

I was 15 in 2005, and that was the bulk of my Halo 2 playing. Now, I'm 21 and have a job, so Reach is like...well, let's say I don't devote as much time to Reach.

Even with more time to play now I have played significantly less games of Reach than 3. From Sept 07 to Sept 08 I roughly calculated that I played over 3K matchmade games. (I couldnt be bothered the calculate the figure for customs on top of that, would that would have been huge.) And in that period of my life I had a bunch of exams, and I remember not renewing my live when it ran out, so essentially for the summer months I wasn't even able to play the game (even if I wanted to). With Reach despite having all the time in the world to play, I have played around 1800 games and that's from the date it came out to this point.

In the space of 12 months I played more Halo 3 than in the year and a bit Reach has been out. For me that's pretty conclusive. :p The fact that im pretty sure in the last few months at least that my Halo 3 gametime has been higher than my Reach time for me proves which game I prefer.

Halo 2: 2607 total games - but 45 were played right at the end, after a 3 year break.
2562 games between 11/8/04 and 8/26/07 - 2.5 games/day

Halo 3: 4828 games between 10/10/07 and 11/20/10 - 4.3 games/day
(Interesting break there between 8/26, when PAX started, and 10/10 - no Halo at all!)

Reach: 3071 games between 9/14/10 and 1/5/12 - 6.4 games/day

This is Multiplayer Matchmaking only - no custom games, no campaign, no firefight.

I think it just further proves my age:game ratio hypothesis.
What hypothesis is this?

I would guess that the younger you are, the less responsibilities you have the more time you have for gaming?

I dunno if I agree, as I have grown older and got a job I feel like I can play games more. After the 9-5 I have no homework to do so im pretty chill to just jump on xbox. But I guess im at the weird stage of working, but not really having the responsibilies of looking after a family.

High School = ALL TIME IN WORLD.
College = Good Luck
Job = Depends. If you got a steady Job, its like being in High School over again. If you have a Family to take care of, gaming time is still cut.

At least I think. OldGAF can advise. I'm in my first year of college and my gaming time has been eliminated.

Meant to put this in my last post to stay on topic, but here's a random thought:

Are the Halo campaigns done with Earth?

I just thought it might be neat to see more than the New Mombasa/Voi area. A forerunner/precursor invasion in Halo 6 might be cool, but maybe that's a little too much like Mass Effect 3.

I certainly hope not, I've always wanted to see more major cities on Earth in the Halo Universe.

For Example, what was going on in New York when the Covies dropped on down to say hello?

For us, it's the grey hair:game ratio hypothesis.

My (soon to be future) wife got me back into videogames, so I'd consider myself a rarity. We have no kids, and she has her things that she likes to do when I ask permission want to play so it's no big deal. I obviously don't play nearly as much as most of you guys and gals, but it's still a pretty hefty amount.

I felt in love with the Halo series because of the Alien structure. Earth was good but the levels/scenario were never better than the environment or the scenarios of the Ark or a Halo-Installation.

As long as the levels are as good as The Storm, Tsavo Highway, and Crow's Nest, Uplift Reserve, Tayari Plaza, Kizingo Boulevard and Kikowani Station, I'm down.

Halo 2:
What hypothesis is this?

I posted the other day that when H2 came out I was playing non-stop. I was in high school going into college and didn't have a ton of responsibility.

When 3 came out I was a sophomore and had a full year to play before I started grad school which slowed down playtime tremendously.

When Reach finally came out I was in my 3rd year of grad school and my priorities had shifted greatly from gaming to work and classwork.

I have a feeling that I'm not the only one that has had to make that transition through the course of the series and in some, not all, cases you can definitely apply the same kind of age progression to a decreased amount of games played.

Save Earth... again!

Boring. They took us to Earth twice already, three if you count ODST. More boring brown streets/hallways/zzzzz.

I want vast alien stuff. I want some hard science vistas that made my mind melt. Stars and shit. If I want a round trip around Earth I'll play another other shooter. The industry has pretty much been to everywhere worth being with a gun already.

I agree - Halo 4 and 5 should definitely have a heavy emphasis on alien environments, especially Forerunner. Reach and ODST were mostly set in human locations, with a dash of Covenant areas and almost no Forerunner areas at all.

But by the time we get to Halo 6 I think fans will be okay with going back to Earth, if only briefly.

Then again, this is pretty true as well. I'm excited for Halo 4 because I want it to play like a metroid game in terms of environment. I'm excited for these strange new worlds.

lolwut

College has all the time in the world compared to a full-time job. Wake up early, go to work all day, leave after 5, go weightlifting, go to grocery store, make dinner, bam. Free time starts at 8pm, have to be asleep by 10:30 to not feel like a zombie the next day.

This is why I just watch streams to get my Halo fix now.
