Kid Icarus Uprising will be bundled with a....stand

Kid Icarus seems lost to me. It was the first 3ds game ever shown but then it was delayed several months. The flying sections look great but the ground sections look boring and slow. Then we have the controls which again look like they were designed for the fast aiming and dodging of the flying sections but tying camera control to the stylus for ground combat feels like a last resort type thing instead of a well thought out control scheme. But the multiplayer is comprised completely of ground combat. Then there's the whole losing the 3d effect because of the control scheme and now there's a stand for that, but its useless to lefties who would need the CPP and having a stand kind of defeats the purpose of a portable device. And lastly that the game supports the CPP but only so lefties can use the right slider and not so that everyone can use dual sliders which would be ideal.

I want this game to be good, the flying sections look great, and I'm glad there's online multiplayer. But overall it looks like a bit of a mess.

exactly

In the end, we'll see how it turns out but there was SO MANY other directions they could have went with this

....but they went full 2004 with a stylus based shooter T__T

This game is going to be a disaster, isn't it?

The flying parts look decent, but the ground parts..

That said, this isn't what I had imagined a Kid Icarus sequel would be like. I could've seen it as an action-adventure game, like a less grimdark and violent version of God of War.

It's not the screen hinges, it's people not having enough muscle in their arms.

lol, do us a favor okay. Go grab a 3DS (or a book, 360 controller, or something of same weight) and hold it in front of you like it's a pamphlet

....now keep it there, in that position for, oh say, 10 minutes. No shifting, adjusting, etc.

Opiate will eat you alive if he sees your post 0_o. "Doom" jokes are the booming bannable offense as of late.

sheesh, the post you quoted is an obvious joke.

Imagine if this game was just a really cool and modern 2D or 2.5D platformer.

Nintendo: "modern 2D platformer for Kid Icarus? Sounds like such a simple and wonderful concept, that game would probably be great...buuuuuuut lets make it a rail shooter instead!"

Anything that makes Kid Icarus less like the original seems like a good idea to me.
There's always potential to take a basic concept of a bad game (or at least one that's heavily marred), and seriously rework it while following the same basic formula. See: King's Field to Dark Souls, or for a less extreme example Metroid to Super Metroid.

This goes to show what a disappointment the 3DS is in terms of design. I classified with this term because in a game that required button operation and stylus use, holding the DS became really uncomfortable, specially if you were playing on the go.

I was hoping for Nintendo to solve these ergonomic issues with the successor, yet they didn't. Now they give you a stand, this machines are becoming less portable than ever and are being positioned as a supplementary home console.

This game is one of the reasons I still keep my thumbstrap from the phat DS currently attached to the 3DS. Playing games like Dementium with it was really easy.

At least this thing is free. I want to know a lot more details about the actual game though, especially more in-depth of how the online works.

it needs a thicker, more ergonomic grip. not heavier, but thicker. That would help alleviate hand cramps. Its flat on the back and sharp around the corners, makes no fucking sense, except if they were trying their best to make it as close to "oooh so sexy!11 day 1!!" as possible.

People are so damn obsessed with anorexic electronics that they throw functionality out the window.

Admittedly I do find some the backlash kind of baffling. Yeah, the control scheme isn't going to be very comfortable for prolonged periods without it, but I kind of expect you'd only WANT to play it for prolonged periods at home anyway, or at least can turn off the 3D when not using it if that's the problem. At worst it's indicative of a problem with Kid Icarus alone, not the 3DS on a whole.

I'm not getting the anger. It's free, it's not required, if you hate it so much just don't buy the game or throw it away. :/

A stand with a PORTABLE system, anyone else see the problem?

Why could they not make Kid Icarus into a modern plaformer/adventure. You know.. like the original

Not an action game with fps controls and on-rail content

I will get this for sure, but I have serious doubts about the quality

Well people expect thin and sexy from portable electronics. However they could have included a grip for longer gaming sessions at home.

I regards to operating the device while using buttons and stylus, at least i thought Nintendo could design a really good thimble for the games that required precision touches and not bother the user with holding an stylus.

I know they expect thin and sexy, but people are stupid...that was my criticism. It wouldn't have taken much more to make the thing slightly more ergonomic instead of a flat coke whore.

Well i will just rest my 3DS on my chest while laying on my bed, getting great and comfortable controls without losing not a single detail of the 3D and destroying faces online. As you people keep crying on these threads about a game you didn't give a fuck since the announcement.

Bundle a bed with the game Sakurai!!

Needs to be a Sleep Comfort bed.

maximum portability

nope. at its current thickness, it's still going in the backpack. it'll have to get down to "slightly thick cellphone" size for pocket privileges. And I'm not even the target audience (teens/kids.)

maximum marketing. and all these Sega-esque add ons really only help prove my point.

All the functionality in the world ain't going to get me carrying a 'portable' device that doesn't fit in my pocket. It's pretty simple. It's not that people are 'stupid' or 'obsessed'. That's as accurate as me assuming you're some cargo-short wearing, courier-bag carrying neckbeard because you're cool with bulky stuff. Different people have different priorities, is all.

I'm 5'11, 165 lbs and this thing would never get pants pocket space. I like to walk when I'm in public. Maybe in a coat. But I always have a bag of some sort with me.

besides, I'm not talking about adding huge bulk. The nyko power pack does not add a whole lot of bulk but my hand cramps are pretty much cured (took me 3 hours of playing on a plane for me to have to shake out my hands from numbness.)

Won't even need the stand for Kid Icarus

I like this. I was planning on buying the game anyway, and it'll make playing 3DS at home easier. (I wish it would work with the Circle Pad Pro, though)

The controls for KI:U are not the best but I can deal with the stand now in place. I was worried to be honest how tired my hand would get. Holding the 3DS with one hand isn't normally a problem. It's having to hold it and use both the circle pad and the shoulder button that is the issue. The thing is the more I think about the controls the more it seems like this game was originally designed for the Wii to be similar to Sin and Punishment 2 but with ground controls and then moved to the 3DS when they realized how good it would look in 3D and that they needed more games for it. Changing the controls most likely might have forced an entire redesign of the game so they just tried to make the controls fit the 3DS. No way where they going to make it around the CPP this being a first party IP. It has to fit the system right out of the box.

I'm willing to deal with the issue and accept anything they give to make controlling the game easier because I think the game looks very interesting and graphically great. I will admit I'm giving Nintendo more of a pass because they are well Nintendo and who is heading up the project.

Makes sense considering the control scheme of the game -- It's going to give you massive hand cramps.

The game would've been better suited for the Wii to be honest.

Le what? It's very, very obvious that the controls were designed for the touch screen from the very beginning. The control scheme would not work with the Wiimote, at all.

Anyway, the origins of the game have already been fully disclosed to the public. After Sakurai was done with SSBB, Iwata demonstrated an early prototype of the 3DS hardware to Sakurai and asked him to make a game for it. Sakurai came up with the idea of KIU as a way of taking advantage of the hardware.

Don't see the point.
You're limited to play on a table with this.
They should have bundled it with a thumbstrap, that costs nothing and let you play like you want.

Maybe they used this for more general things like watching videos, I don't know...

No one is going to use that thing. :lol

Would probably cause more problems with hand/arm cramps and knocking the stand over.
