The Official HP Touchpad Thread of $100 Digital Picture Frames

Wow, CM9 is a huge improvement over Gingerbread. Switching between apps is painless plus the whole interface is gorgeous. The touch screen also feels more accurate for some reason. The only real annoyance I have is that the on screen keyboard is really big, but maybe that's an option than can be toggled. I may stop using webOS depending on how decent the battery life is.

Get an app called Thumb Keyboard.

For those on CM9, does the WIFI still stay on 24/7? I even changed the setting to turn off when the screen is on but its always on. Kills the battery when its just on standby. Not cool

It doesn't look like the setting is doing what it says it does. Probably best to toggle Wifi off if you're not going to be using it for extended periods.

If it's like any Android hack port, the power button only turns off the screen.

Figuring out battery power saving in an Android hack port is like telling someone to figure out a schematic design of an electronic in its casing through a tiny scope and describing what each circuit does with no manual.

After waiting for ICS, I finally updated and its awesome. One thing, any way to turn off the sounds and vibrations when using the touchcreen? I turned it off in settings, but its still present.

Weird, it turned off for me. I'm having issues with charging it now. It seems to charge VERY slow as in plug in for 30 minutes and it went up 5% in battery

Well, it works for my HD2..is that an Android hack port?

There's a fix on the previous page.

I'm having on weird problem since updating to CM9 via ACMEInstaller2. Randomly, I'll get a music sound clip just keep looping. I was able to get rid of it by seeing what Apps were currently running which stopped it... until about 10 seconds ago :D

Anyone else experiencing this?

Edit: I'm guessing this is some sort of notification?

Yeah, that's a special case since the HD2 is basically the predecessor of the EVO.

However, if you take something like the HTC Touch Diamond, Diamond II, Fuze, Touch Pro, Touch Pro II, or other devices that don't have current Android hardware, figuring out battery life will always be an issue.

VanMardigan

has calmed down a bit.
Wow, so glad I updated to ICS. I see no need to ever go back to WebOS. Once they get the hardware accelerated video and the mic going, it'll be perfect.

HP Touchpad. Best $100 tablet, or greatest $100 tablet?

Ok, now I feel like jumping on the bandwagon after reading all the praise. I skipped on gingerbread. What or where do I go to put ICS on my TP?

Ah fine I'll jump in and see what ICS is.

What's the difference between ACMEInstaller and ACMEInstaller2?

Why not just use CWM and be done?

Bumping this thread dredges up bad memories. Is there any way to get one of these at a cheap price now, after the hype died?

From what I read so far, ACMEInstaller2 is used for new installs for CM9.

For current Gingerbread users, CWM will be just fine.

Let's see.

Ah makes sense.

Yea ACME2 is for CM9 only. They did some updates. I am also about to take the plunge since I'm bored. Best way to do it is to start clean and install using CWM from recovery.

There is some file called "gapps fixer" on rootzwiki but I can't download it. Anybody know what it is?

Is there any way to access the entire touchpad file structure (currently on ICS) via usb mounting on a mac?

I have mtp turned on and I'm using the Android File Transfer tool, but I can only access pre-defined folders. I have a couple of folders that I have some videos on, but I can't see them anymore unless I mount via CWM or reboot back in webos.

Doing this reformat like a good Android ROM flasher

1. Wipe user data.
2. Wipe cache partition.
3. Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik cache.

Installing.

Time for that long first boot.

As far as I know you can only see the SD card contents when you mount. Would be interested in knowing how to see the entire structure as well, mac or PC

I think this will push me to buy an Android ICS phone.

sogood.gif

Just need to know if a particular model will get an ICS update. That's all for a different thread. ;)

Anyway, anyone hesitant to use ICS, I would say jump at it as it'll do all the normal tasks smoothly now.

I can give up hardware accelerated video watching for usability.

No more Google Reader crashes!

dat multitasking.

Galaxy Nexus is pretty much your best choice if you long for ICS.

I'm having the same problem freshair is having with the Mac client -- it's only showing a couple of random directories rather than the contents of /sdcard

You know I have that problem on Mac just seeing folders on my bootcamp. Not to say the problem lies within Mac, but still.

Okay, installed ICS and you guys were kind of right. It's definitely very smooth and beautiful on the Touchpad. I still think GB was great but this is more great.

I know netflix doesn't work yet but do the emulators work yet?

I can't be without my ps3 controller and emus now that I've had a taste.

Holy fuck, CM9 ICS is amazing... I can't believe how much of a step up this is compared to WebOS, its soo smooth! So far, I've been using this for well over 4 hrs and it hasn't crashed yet. Pretty sweet for an early Alpha build.

The "gapps fixer" addresses the issue that some have where the calendar doesn't sync properly.

I wish there was a way to hide that bottom bar for full screen apps. Splashtop makes my desktop on the touchpad look weird without properly ratio

So if I install this Alpha build now, the updates that will eventually move CM9 out of alpha will be easy? Or should I just wait for the beta?

I'm getting an error every time I try to download something off the market in ICS. Anyone have any ideas why?

Edit: Nvm solved it.

if it's anything like CM7, expect the next decent update around the first of February.
OK, but I'm still not sure if this install will let me easily upgrade to the newer versions. I guess I'm wondering if upgrading this will be as easy as upgrading WebOS 3.0.4 to 3.0.5 or something like that.

I've been getting an error whenever I went on Recovery mode to install the ICS update. It says:

"No cminstall dir found, nothing to install."

I've looked on Google, and a few had the same problem. None of the solutions helped me at all. I made sure the folder was spelled correctly, and that the files are in there.

It'll be as simple as downloading a single file, putting it on your device, booting to recovery and choosing to install the file.

Make sure you put the .zip in the cminstall folder. Don't extract the .zip.

I just installed CM9 and this thing is pretty smooth! I'm loving the Marketplace, although it is a bit overwhelming, especially coming from the emptiness that was the WebOS app store. I do miss being able to flick away an app :-( I had no issues with WebOS so I kinda miss it.
