RE5 ripped off Gears of War and MGS4 too.

Shooting enemy with satellite laser beams, stabbing a guy in the neck with a vial to make him vulnerable, the whole ridiculous cover shooting mess, etc.
RE4 was one of the main references of Gears of War.
And these things appeared in other places before. Satellite laser beam references was from the manga Akira, in case you don't know it.

RE4 borrow almost everything from other game , but with great implementation. What's so wrong with that?

RE4 was solely responsible for most of the third-person shooters we're still playing today. It did nothing wrong in its own right, but then everyone and their dog started aping its style.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
Did he or Capcom say that it's not him?

There are these things called ears on the side of our heads than work in conjunction with the brain to help us recognise voices and other sounds. That isn't the same actor from RE4, we don't need it to be confirmed by Capcom. They already cast a new actor for Operation Raccoon City and I guess they are sticking with him.

I watched the trailer, then I read the details. I'm okay with this. I was never a fan of Takeuchi's comments about totally reimagining or rebooting the series. I'm glad they decided to delay (or abandon) those plans instead to give fans another me-too entry in the franchise with the characters we love. No, that's not meant to be sarcasm.

Shanghai looks pretty great. Not too keen on Leon's new design so far, but at least he didn't turn into a monster like Chris. So it seems like we'll be seeing Leon, Ashley, Chris, Ada, Rebecca, and not-Wesker in the game at least? Not bad for a start.

Rebecca's in the trailer?

I hope we see retro-Jill and Claire.

To people who say this is not RE

THIS IS RE (now). The RE you want has long gone. If you want that, go buy Dead space. Thanks.

Yeah, I am glad they are doing new things with the series. The RE games are classics and I love them, but I don't want them to release the same shit over and over again. This looks like the best of both worlds, with characters we know and love and with gameplay that is made modern to boot. Could not look any better to me.

Capcom PR confirmed that the unknown character is Megaman.

Happy 25th Megaman anniversary guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of people consider RE4 to be the best in the series, myself included.

That's nice. What does that have to do with anything I said?

To say it 'isn't RE' is kind of ridiculous.

Resident Evil 1 > survival horror

Resident Evil 2 > survival horror

Resident Evil 3 > survival horror

Resident Evil 0 > survival horror

Resident Evil 1 remake > still survival horror

Resident Evil CV > survival horror

Resident Evil 4 > less survival horror

*Magic time where the 360 becomes overly popular with immature brat kids*

Resident Evil 5 > derp console shooter, traces of survival horror, no puzzles

Resident Evil Racoon City > straight derp console shooter

Resident Evil 6 > Jesus fucking christ

Yeah, "kind of ridiculous". I'm almost convinced NeoGAF, for the majority, consists of kids who grew up on streamlined accessible crap. I don't care what you've played.

Ask any RE fan how Resident Evil started out for all of the games above and you'll get a description that is so fucking far away from what they're doing to the series now.

This isn't a bad thing.

Why you guys no like co op? Resident Evil 5 was amazong. Actually I can understand, seeing the series change and stuff, and also very little horror games out now.

Hopefully we can become a bit more horrifying than 5 and reach a middle point so everyone is happi ? :) i hope so.

I'm with you man. I enjoyed the co-op in RE5 thoroughly.

Didn't like it,

The first part with Leon looked promising (even though his model is atrocious this time), everything afterwards looks like your standard Me-too, shoot/cover/shoot and shoot gameplay that has plagued this god awful fucking generation of generic boring crap. I am PISSED with this trailer, I though Operation raccon city was the game that caters to the FPS crowd, I guess that's not enough.

Has every person in this thread forgotten that RE4 was a HUGE influence on the original gears of war?

This x 10,000.

The game was very likely going this direction whether Gears existed or not; Gears came from RE4, not the other way around. If you don't like that and won't play it because of that, I respect that. But it's not "ripping off Gears".

I have ears. He sounds like Paul. You have no proof that it isn't him.

ITT: a lot of people don't understand why RE5 failed. They think they do, but they don't.

This doesn't look anything like RE5 in the ways that matter.

I'll just break it down for everyone:

RE5 didn't suck because it had a lot of shooting. The action was more or less the same as RE4. RE5 sucked because it had zero atmosphere in a series that has been all about atmosphere.

RE5:

- Takes place mostly in daylight
- Has you shooting the same voodoo enemies for most of the game
- Doesn't really have a lot of monsters
- Rips off its biggest set piece from the Uncharted series

Judging by this trailer, RE6:

- Takes place mostly at night
- Has a shit ton of monsters
- Returns to the collapsing urban feel of RE2/3
- Has claustrophobic hallways and much better set pieces than RE5

what

RE5:

- Takes place mostly in daylight

Judging by this trailer, RE6:

- Takes place mostly at night

RE5 started in daylight, got darker in the swamp, and stayed dark for the rest or you were indoors. RE4 did the same shit, started off day, turned rainy, you were then indoors until the island where it was cloudy. RE6 still has plenty of daylight from what the trailer shows, and that is not a bad thing at all.

RE5:

- Has you shooting the same voodoo enemies for most of the game

RE6:

- Has a shit ton of monsters

All REs have you shooting the same enemies for most of the game. All games in general do this, actually. And 6...how can you tell if it fixes that? Is this going to be a revolutionary videogame with more enemy variety than any game ever released?

RE5:

- Doesn't really have a lot of monsters

This is...the same point? Going off memory, 5 had plenty of enemies. Near the amount of RE4 if not more, which already had more over the previous games. I also don't see how you can determine 6 has a "shitton" based off a 3 minute trailer.

RE5:

- Rips off its biggest set piece from the Uncharted series

RE6:
- Has claustrophobic hallways and much better set pieces than RE5

What was its biggest set piece ripped from UC1? Nothing comes to mind. And yes, UC1, because RE5 was out before 2 or 3.

RE5 had a lot of atmosphere. It wasn't as great as RE4, but it hardly failed in that area. It didn't have the amazing pacing that game did, but it was still a great game. RE6 looks great by the trailer...I just literally can not comprehend what the hell your point is with this post, because nothing you said is remotely true.

Looks to me that Resident Evil died when Mikami left Capcom. Hahaha at this crap. And am I crazy or are the graphics not up to RE5's level?

I don't think you're crazy, but it seems like they're doing much larger scale stuff than RE5 had going. I guess this is the tradeoff.

This looks pretty fun, but I guess Revelations really is going to be the one stop shop for dripping atmosphere in a RE title this year.

I'm 30 years old, and I'm very excited for RE6, but hey, why should that get in the way of your fantastic rant about how the world is passing you by?

The obsession over "survival horror" is a plague on message boards.

It really is.

If Ashley is shooting guns and stuff in this one, I call bullshit that they didn't team her up with Leon. Leon/Ashley without the escort stuff would have made for potentially hilarious dialogue since they know each other already.
Not sure how funny it would be, Leon seems to be all srs business now.

Main character personal friends with the president?

Sounds like something Mikami would do

eh? not really. if RE6 was more old school, you could say exactly the same thing. 'why make RE6 horror type when they're releasing a horror type RE the same year?'.

see?

Operation Raccoon City is a very different kind of game to me. not even sure if i'm going to pick it up. i definately don't think it's a substitute for what 6 looks to be.

That's something depending on each own definition of course.
But Racoon City for me is a fully action based title with a horror setting nothing more nothing less.

RE6 "could" be based on what I saw also an purely action driven game with more Storyline into the game.

It's just im fine with people wanting to play a coop game but I would prefer a pure singleplayer game again with less shooting.
Not that I want that old fashioned style of Resident Evil back but it should be at least more that direction.
As I said some pages ago , I really loved the scenes with Leon being surrounded by a dozen of zombies.
An entire city of undead creatures trying to get him.
As the counterpart we have Chris driving around a tank and playing World War Z.

I'd say Dead Space is sliding toward the Gears of War genre if it isn't already halfway in it already. I didn't feel any sense of isolation/helplessness let alone horror at all in DS2.

RE4, Dead Space 1&2 had a strong sense of dread which is all I expect from these third person survival horror games. They never were truly horror games and RE hasn't been that long before RE4.

That said, I don't completely agree with your last sentence. Dead Space 2 has that feeling of vulnerability only with more refined gameplay and pacing in my eyes.

Typical comment from somebody who simply likes a trailer with no argument (or counter argument) to speak of, defending their fondness of mediocrity. Next.

And those saying RE revelations is some haven for "true" RE fans with the atmosphere dont seem to get that crap doesnt come across at all or as well through a tiny 3ds screen with that incredible sound.

you missed one. the franchise hasn't abandoned horror completely.

am i the only one who thinks it a bit mad that people who were already upset at where the franchise went with 4 and 5 are ignoring what Revelations is doing? yes, this is the thread for 6, and i understand why people that didn't like 4 or 5 might go ape shit at what 6 looks like, but the franchise isn't dead. the franchise hasn't abandoned you.

there's a brand new game coming out in like, two weeks, that's much more like the old games than even 4 was.

The cast is fantastic but I am not touching this game with a ten foot pole until I am proven multiple times by video that this game is like RE4 or RE1 style instead of RE5-like.
