The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

Kinda small, don't you think? We'll see how big post-launch updates are going to be in general when the online patch comes out at least.

It does seem small, but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if the game was in one big map that just blocks off portions depending on the quest you do.

A few days ago I was browsing yosp's Twitter and for some reason(something I read) I came to the conclusion that the reason for the sub-native res found in some games is a battery issue, and not a pure horsepower one. Can anyone confirm this?

I'd rather have 2 hours in native res instead of 3 hours in sub-native res.

This hasn't been confirmed, but I was under the same assumption. A power budget could mean a lower clocked CPU/GPU. I believe that if Sony was more lenient with the budget, the chips could be clocked higher and crank out more polys. However, one must also consider the fact that they're working with a portable, and should try to establish the best amount of battery life possible.

I've got an interview with JAW about Stranger's Wrath on the PS Vita. Does anyone here have anything they want to know about the Vita version?

Was this known? I had no idea Stranger's Wrath was coming to Vita. That's incredible.

Ask how easy it was for them to get to grips with the Vita development kit, and if they had to 'downgrade' the existing assets in any way.

(I'm assuming that they will port over the PS3 version which already had improved models and textures.)

I got to play a Vita at gamestop tonight. I was already planning on getting a Vita but now I'm super excited for it. I know everyone else already talked about their impressions of it but what the heck, I'll post something too. Man its so much smaller then it looks in pictures, the analog sticks are tiny! They are like baby sticks! Felt really light too. Props to Sony / Gamestop for making an easy to hold demo station. Handhelds never get that right.

Anyway, I don't like how Escape Plan grades you after each room. If you want to time me go ahead but giving me a star rating? Ehh... I never like it when games do that. FFXIII annoyed me with that as well and I remember people complaining about LA Noire doing that as well. Anyway, such an amazing looking game. The black and white artstyle works so well on that screen.

I do wish the demo station had a PSP game on it, just to see how that would look. I tried gravity daze too. The motion aiming felt backwards but I didn't see an option to invert it, just inverting the regular controls. If I tilt to the left I wanted the aim to go right, like if I was holding a camera. I guess I just need to think of it like a ball on the screen, rather then a camera

Edit: I also like how the d-pad isn't a split d-pad like it normally is on playstation products but rather the entire pad is above the body. Felt nice, I think I will like this d-pad much more for fighting games than the regular controller.

What did you think to it apart from the star rating? Good puzzles and gameplay? Keen to try this one

Their is option to change this in the beginning

I only played a little, just a couple of rooms but I really enjoyed it. I wasn't paying attention to it but I have my eye on it now after playing. Given the short session take everything with a MASSIVE grain of salt.

I couldn't get a sense of what I could or couldn't interact with. If you swipe the mark on the screen looks like a cutting motion (think fruit ninja) but there were cables and pipes I couldn't cut and wasn't sure why. Same with pressing on the back. There were things I thought I could push out (like platforms) but couldn't. Pushing on the back was hard in the sense I had no idea where I was going to push. This probably goes away the more you use the back touch but I could see myself messing up some timing based puzzles by hitting the wrong spot on the back at the wrong time (assuming there are even puzzles like that). There's an icon that pops up telling you where you are pushing and I was always surprised where it was

The guy was responsive. I had no trouble getting him to start or stop. The puzzles seemed good although I got the impression there will be a one right way to get through them rather then several, I wonder if you'll be able to elaborately cheese your way through something after missing the obvious solution.

EDIT: I love how there was no tutorial. Simply learn by doing

Ahh good! Do you know if you can change that independently of the camera controls? I think I want the motion inverted but the camera normal... funny how brains work :/

What didn't you like about the original, and what has changed?

The lack of an in-dungeon map, 3 characters instead of 4 in-battle, poor dungeon and town design, lack of voice, story that needed more fleshing out, low sound quality and a main villain that looked like the tin man combined with a marshmallow.

All of these things were improved.

Have you guys seen this Uncharted Vita case? It's marked as shock proof, but I can;t help thinking those plastic catches are going to snap off under and major shock.

Uh, storing the game cards and memory cards right above the Vita screen seems like a bad idea, if you ever dropped the case.

Guess you could store the Vita in it rear-up.

Why would storing them above the screen be an issue? They are going to be flat against it and because they are so light they'll have a tiny amount of inertia anyway.

Just seen they also do it in black and a "VIP" one which seems to have no storage for carts. Shame as I prefer the look of that one.

You mean 1 week? :p

I have a goddamn car-plane to make and mid-February will get so busy with studying that I won't have time to enjoy Vita so might as well wait...

Well it's close to 3 weeks to the 22 no?

How do you know that? The foam interior looks to sit recessed from the edge of the case's plastic edge on the top and bottom lids. And the card storage area is also recessed further. I don't think the cards lay flat against the screen. Tiny inertia or not, I'm not taking that risk of one or more cards falling out of their spots and sliding around on the Vita's plastic screen.

That VIP case, though, is classy as hell.

Sorry, flat as in parallel, not flat as in touching/against the screen.

And yes I really do like the VIP one. For anyone going digital or who only wants one cart on the go it would be perfect. More than that and you suddenly need a cart case or a different case altogether. That PDP crystal case is not bad and does at least have storage.

Whatever happened to using a sock?

We are still talking about something to put the Vita in right?

Anyway, I've just finalised my order...I think.

3G Vita
8gb Card
Rayman
2x Hori protectors (for when I screw one up or when it needs replacing)
Thrustmaster VIP case

Total cost £319.02 including postage. Total saving £45.98

I actually already have Rayman and Lumines ordered for £6 each but figured that they'll probably cancel at some point, and If not I'm sure someone will take a copy of Rayman off me. Might even be able to trade it in at game for more than I paid!

On top of that I'll need to pay probably £15 to activate the 3G to get the "free" Wipeout, and I already have Uncharted pre ordered for £28.

If they don't cancel the Rayman/Lumines cheapo order then in total I'll be getting

3G Vita
8GB card
Rayman x2
Lumines
Uncharted
Wipeout
2x Hori protectors
Thrustmaster VIP case

For about £375. Saving a total of about £121.

I bet they cancel those £6 games though.

EDIT: just realised I'm eligible for the Prime trial again so saved another £8 total. Oddly I could change the Rayman/Lumines order to use prime, but the Uncharted order is saying Prime delivery but still costing £1.69 for delivery. I'll try again later.

There will also be SuperStardust and Escape Plan in there. Possibly a few others like Putty Squad and stuff.

Just found out I'm off work on the 22nd and 23rd too :D

Is Amazon gonna sell this too in the US?

Been going back and forth with this all day on what my inital PSVita purchase is going to be:

So far I'm getting Escape plan.
That's it..

Still can't decide between 3G/8gb bundle or Wifi/32gb..

Oh and a screen protector and case.

Still need to decide on 1-2 more games. =(

Wow, that thrustmaster case is sleek.

Anybody else notice that in the promo shots for LBP on Amazon they seem to be using a devkit model?

Black shoulder buttons and what looks to be two extra ports on the bottom. Would love to have one for the video out features alone.

As tweeted by @yosp, Escape Plan is coming to Japan in March and the PSN price will be 1500 yen.

Done. Preordered Wifi Vita, 16Gb card, Wipeout and Uncharted. Preorder bonus was Ridge Racer, which isn't much of a pre-order bonus and they threw in the travel case for nothing. Will also pick up Escape Plan, Gravity Daze, The Show and Super Stardust from PSN. Also have 16 PSP games that I haven't finished yet that I'll leave to Vita - incl VC2, TiTS, Ys7, and MHFU. So f'n hyped now.

VIP Case is really nice - how does it open? Just a hinge like a spectacles case?

Looks quite a lot smaller than the other ones too which is nice. Think I might even prefer it to the Sony premium leather case.

Played Ridge Racer and the Uncharted and Gravity Rush demos yesterday.

Uncharted looks much better than the OS Screenshots suggest. It's an entirely different beast on the OLED. The overall quality is great, although a little rough in some aspects. Jaggies are there but not as bad as expected. Shadows are a little low resolution and the fire effects are plain bad. Everything else looks superb though, with some great texturework to top it off.

Gravity Rush is much more fun than I expected. It really is a typical Sony game in that that the majority will not care about it, but for an niche audience it will become an instant classic.
Personally I loved it although I was not interested at first. Will pick it up definitely.

Ridge Racer is a scam. Don't buy. Performance is bad (and in the weirdest places, when not much is going on on the screen) and there is little content. It's much worse than GT5 Prologue for example.

Doesn't look like it has room for carts though, which is :(

What Sony leather case do you mean?

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
gravity rush is releasing in EU on the 23rd.. but PSN download only :(

i want a retail version of the game :(

Gravity Rush also an launch-title ? Shit is getting expensive.
I hope it doesnt need too much space, since i`ll will just have the free 8gb cards which i get with the amazon deal.
