People keep on saying "give the game to Treasure or Platinum" and in a situation where if they won't make it then it won't get made then sure, have them make a gameplay first/only Starfox. But Starfox64 fantastic because its made by a group of people who believe people could connect to a group of space animals saving a galaxy with mild does of space drama. Treasure would turn that into anime-fest 2012 and Platinum would turn it into a 4th wall breaking, inside joke.

Say it with me now everyone, Retro made Star Tropics for Wii-U. Anyone who doesn't agree with this is most likely an evil person working for the Devil.

Anyway I dont see all the fuss with this series. Fox Mcloud is Nintendo's worst designed character, worse than Tingle. He is totally awkward. The series is also grossly over rated, the last good game was Star Fox 64 - and you could clock that game in under an hour easily. Gameplay wise the series pales in comparison to serious arcade shooters like Ikaruga and Bangai-O. Heck even all the Rogue Squadron game series were better!

In every population or demographic there is a one percent. You are the one percent and you are entitled to thinking Fox McCloud is a horribly designed character, and that Bangai-O and even Rogue Squadron are better. Yuck. I think Star Fox is a great intellectual property and one with so much potential that has not been fulfilled since the original EAD games on the SNES and N64.

If Nintendo is interested in a new Star Fox game, Treasure and Platinum Games are, by far, the best choices.

That makes perfect sense. Assign the franchise you want to revive to two developers who are known for making "commercial hits that appeal to the masses".

Exactly. I mean people are entitled to their opinion. But sometimes you hear this recurring nonsense of an idea.

Treasure would be fine.

Sin & Punishment 2 was a fantastic game and, with some tweaking of speed and design, would make a good foundational basis for a Starfox game.

People are acting like Treasure would be slowly torturing the series like in a Saw movie while EAD looks on in horror of what is being done to their baby. In the worst case scenario, EAD would be heavily involved and the game would still be bad. In the best case scenario, EAD would be heavily involved and the game would be good. In every other scenario in between, EAD would be heavily involved.

Anyone else holding out for a new IP? Don't know if it's been confirmed that they're making a new game from and old franchise. Think Nintendo desperately needs new IPS tbh

I was thinking the same, especially since Retro has proven themselves.

But I feel like if anything Retro has 2 games in the works, a popular Nintendo IP and something new. It is a business and Nintendo needs their big IPs to get people to buy the console, but they could also release riskier games once they start hitting their groove... hopefully.

Not according to sales figures. Even review scores on Metacritic show I'm with the majority consensus opinion amongst true die hard gamers. It doesn't take a genius, within five minutes of playing, any serious gamer will tell you those Treasure shooters are superior in terms of mechanics, design and game play.

OK, why do people keep talking about Star Tropics? What does Retro have to do with the franchise, why does it need a sequel, how is it relevant in 2012?

I honestly have no idea, so please enlighten me. And do it gently.

You could ask the same things about Retro and Metroid ten years ago. Retro's had two successful retro revivals, so naturally we're all jumping on them for our own gratification.

Because everyone wants to see a Zelda/Uncharted hybrid.

Because an Uncharted like game, and key word here being like, with in the Star Tropics world would be awesome. When I say Uncharted like I mean a 3rd person adventure game with, environmental puzzles and the like. Obviously it doesn't need the gun battles that Uncharted has.

If you haven't played the Star Tropics games go and do yourself a favor and play them. They're still pretty awesome. It's a series that has been begging for a sequel for decades now.

I personally would love to see Retro do it. They have a really talented team there for making believable, yet alien and exotic worlds.

At this point in time as well, so few people know of and remember Star Tropics, that it can basically be treated ALMOST as a new IP.

Pretty much. I'm down for whatever retro is cooking up, but I've always held the belief that StarTropics had more potential than most things clamored for from other franchise revivals. See here for some ideas.

It isn't even really about Nintendo making a Nintendo Uncharted so much as it's about making a secondary action-adventure series and diversifying their roster so Zelda can take breaks and also something new playing to the strengths Retro continues to show will be well utilized.

The difference here is that Star Fox, although quite niche, is a bigger franchise than both Sin & Punishment and Vanquish. The question isn't about who's going to make it (it doesn't matter if it's Nintendo, Treasure or Platinum behind it). The question is if, in 2012, a classic Star Fox is still in a position to be a multimillion seller. If yes, then, as long as it's good, it's going to sell regardless of who developed it.

Now, if the next Star Fox goes for its classic on-rails approach then Treasure and Platinum can nail its gameplay formula like no other. If it goes for a reboot, well, that's another story.

Oh no. Metacritic "proof". Not that you should be using Metacritc as any means of proof on this board anyway but I thought it funny that you choose to neglect any treasure games in your links. Couldn't find any Treasure games above the Starfox 64 88 average could you? Some proof huh?

I agree with this. If there's to be a new Star Fox, the game needs challenge and action set pieces... developed by a well known Eastern developer. Sort of a way to make amends for the previous poorly conceived games. With Starfox 64 3D's recent release... this game is the most likely to be developed. I just hope its not being done by Retro.

Say it with me now everyone, Retro made Star Tropics for Wii-U. Anyone who doesn't agree with this is most likely an evil person working for the Devil.
I don't think the original was ever released in Japan, so there probably isn't any demand for it there, making revisiting the franchise pointless in the eyes of NOJ, who scarcely (if ever) mention the game at all. Aside from one sequel, there's never been a GB, GBA, or DS related game. I don't think it'll happen.

You could ask the same things about Retro and Metroid ten years ago. Retro's had two successful retro revivals, so naturally we're all jumping on them for our own gratification.
Ten+ years ago, Nintendo approached another developer to develop Metroid for the N64 and was declined, so Metroid was never really a dead franchise, it was just skipped a console generation. Even still, Samus is present in Super Smash Bros for N64.

With all said and done, I hope Retro is working on two games: Raven Blade (an original IP) and a spinoff Zelda game. Raven Blade was Retro's long lost abortion, I could see them wanting to revisit it. I'd like to see a Zelda game due to Miyamoto's comments, I wonder where their art direction would take it?

I just wish they would release more games, or at least split development.

Stop mentioning Star Tropics. It's not going to happen nor would it ever. Nor should it.

STOP discussing possible titles from Retro studios a video game developer. what do you guys think this is, some kind of video game forum dedicated to discussing video games?

Well, that sounds like Zelda:)

I might give it a try, thanks. It know it was released in PAL-land too, I'll see if I can find a copy.

I do hope Retro is working on something a little more robust than a Nintendo Uncharted.

What kind of argument is this. You are using metacritic in your defense. and then fail to accurately compare the games.

Star Fox 64 has a higher metacritic than Star Wars: Rogue Squadron I, Star Wars: Battle for Naboo, Bangai-O, Ikarua, and Sin and Punishment 1. But comparing most of Treasure's 2D shooters to Star Fox is just wrong anyway.

I don't know why people keep shitting on rail shooters like it's some sort of cheap and easy genre to work with. The ongoing struggle to do something decent with Star Fox should be a good indicator of how hard it can be. SF64 and Sin and Punishment remain two of the best games to ever grace the N64. In my book, Panzer Dragoon Orta was one of the greatest titles of its generation in scope, presentation, and execution.

Treasure is undoubtedly a master of rail shooters and I'd love a Star Fox from them, but the genre is not beneath Retro's talents. In fact, it might demand them.

Could nintendo even making a story heavy game with cutscenes and set-pieces and the like?

Probably not, they've never made one so they don't have the experience.
They probably can't make HD games with high quality assets either, because the Wii was so underpowered, like all their other consoles.

Sony tried that twice. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Uncharted franchise outperformed both Killzone and Resistance did it not?

That's probably because Uncharted at least plays well, unlike Killzone.

Let's not pretend like Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3 insanely high production value is an industry norm. Those games are way ahead of everyone else when it comes to presentation.

The whole industry would have a hard time competing. Let alone Nintendo, who often ignores that aspect of the product.

How about we mention what we feel like? Are we not aloud to have hopes and dreams now?
To add something to the topic of Startropics, I can mention the trademark was cancelled (not abandoned) on the 13th of April, 1998. To renew a, in this case, dead trademark is not that difficult, but should cost at least a few hundred dollars. For a franchise that's rarely mentioned (though the Virtual Console release of 2008 shouldn't be overlooked) and not initially released in either Europe or Japan (it's still not released there, not even on Virtual Console as far as I know), I'm not to keen on expecting much. It's certainly a nice game and could with right output perhaps be as appreciated as Xenoblade, but I doubt it's something Nintendo Co., Ltd. wants to invest in. It's probably as distant as a reboot of Mach Rider.

Genyo Takeda acted though as a supervisor for Punch-Out!! (2009), so who knows what might happen? A ship steered by Retro Studios and its newfound talents could probably make it so, and make it good. The theme of the game coincides pretty well with the new staff's history and Retro's older projects (excluding Car Combat perhaps).

I find it amazing that Retro is potentially creating one of the most graphically impressive Nintendo games of all time.... and to top it all off, it will most likely look prettier than anything on the 360 and PS3. This is all coming after the little Wii!

I want Retro Studios to make the next Metroid/Star Fox/Zelda/Mario/Startropics/ because they are the greatest of all developers and are in no way overrated.

amidoingitright.jpg?

I definitely think that is more likely, given their statements on what game they are making and Nintendo trademarking ED again.

But dennis dyack was interviewed saying his studio is working on " a sequel everybody wants" and considering they made eternal darkness 1 and everyone wants a sequel it makes sense that they are doing it. I think retro is working on something different.
