Been watching a lot of FF13 videos today (never played it), it looks kind of aweseome >_>

Some dialogue is a bit stupid, but the world and basic plot seems interesting. Might by it soon (have to be on 360 though).

I understand that most complaints about it stem from linearity, but I don't think that will bother me >_>

The GTA series is garbage. The only good game in the series is part 4 and that's still just an average game.

FPS games in general are the worst thing to ever happen to gaming. Portal may be the only FPS I enjoy.

Nintendo should go 3rd party.

The only time I play FPS games is for the single player/co-op. I avoid FPS multiplayer like the plague.

Uncharted is incredibly overrated. It makes a pretty sweet movie, but that's it.

Metroid Prime and Oblivion bore me to death. Both of them are currently on their third "second chance" - Prime because I snagged the Trilogy, and Oblivion because I wanted to give it another chance before Skyrim. Still haven't been more than an hour into Oblivion on four different files.

I loved Dragon Age 2. Sure it had its flaws, but it very well might have been my favorite RPG of 2011.

Even if Activision treats their development studios like death camps, they're far less anti-consumer than EA.

Yep, Activision doesn't close down servers to year old games, force SecuROM on me, take games from my preferred service, rip content out of games and sell it as DLC or preorder bonuses and have online passes.

Activision are Saints compared to EA, the only thing they are guilty of is milking franchises, but then again so is Nintendo.

Steam is a bullshit system to lock you out of single player games if you can't get online.

Valve is driving me to seek out hacks to play the games I paid for offline.

That's weird, Steam's Offline Mode has worked for me OK in all games I have. Some of them are GFWL and I can still sign in even if Steam is in offline mode.

Yeah I've never had a problem with offline mode. It just works when my internet goes out for a bit.

Now I can't speak of prolonged outages because, well it's 2012 and barring a hurricane coming through here that never happens.

Same for me, I travel and use offline mode more than I do online and have never had a problem.

Linearity is not the problem with FFXIII. In fact, I liked the linear first half of the game a lot more than the open areas later on. The problem was that there's only one gameplay element that's not overly complicated to understand, which you are then asked to keep doing for fifty hours.

Lots and lots of people have problems with offline mode. I don't usually have any issues myself but I'm not entirely confident in declaring it working outright considering reports on GAF about it.

Wasn't the fix for offline mode that you had to physically go and unplug your router in order for it to work? I swear it had something to do with unplugging....

I couldn't get past the first 2 hours of Star Wars: KotOR. Even though I love Mass Effect I just could find that game any, you know, fun.

- All the Halo games are garbage. Most of the "new" stuff the series is standing for was included in games like Golden Eye and Perfect Dark years before.

- GTA IV is actually a great game. San Andreas is shit.

- Metroid Prime 1 & 2 are boring as hell - part 3 is so much better.

- The Golden Eye Wiimake is the best shooter which was released on consoles in 2011.

- Metroid: Other M is actually a great game with some minor weaknesses regarding story telling.

- 3D Marios are so much better than than 2D Marios.

I had the same (with kotor 2 though), tried it on pc, but found the game clunky as hell and not much fun to play. Probably a terrible shame, but never picked it up again after putting it down.

We are not in some resurgence of "retro" style games. Indie devs are not bringing back the "retro" classics, they are shitting on them. Super Meat Boy is an embarrassment if it is meant to be the successor to the Nintendo or Sunsoft platformers on the NES.

There is no fighting game revival.

I think that anyone who buys/plays any of those Japanese schoolgirl molestation games should have whatever tiny genitalia they have burnt, whilst still attached.

So you're telling me you're not getting this game for Vita? :p

I partially agree. Whoever actually wants to play this clearly has some strange issues that need to be dealt with via therapy. I don't agree with the physical harm part, at least they're not molesting real girls.

Yeah I might be a bit overboard, but that really is my gut reaction. When reason kicks back in I realise its just that they have issues and need help, but still, I wonder how well that thing will sell in Japan?

Phantom Hourglass and Spirit tracks have the best controls of any Zelda, closely followed by Skyward Sword. The combat controls in the 2D games ruin them for me, they are clunky and awful, like trying to play through one of the 3D iterations with Z/L targeting disabled (note: I played the 3D games first).

I have never enjoyed a Metroidvania, and think the backtracking is largely lazy game design.

Games will never be able to tell a traditional film- or novel-like narrative due to the inability of the designer to control what the player is doing (and, by extension, the pacing). It's a dead end. Animal Crossing, Majora's Mask, that last level in Braid, Rez (etc); these are where we should be looking.

Blizzard games are fucking ugly. Actually, high fantasy in general is awful.

The obsession with having broad lore and universes with 10000 year histories is fucking pointless and simply demonstrates how inept the writers are.

The idea that a game with development team of 50+ can ever be truly collaborative without being watered down in the process is ridiculous.

The accepted position that games are being made by homogenous development houses rather than a group of individual autuers gives the impression that they are software products instead of examples of human creativity and ingenuity.

The business and creative dimensions of the game industry are far too intwined for it to be taken seriously as a creative medium (maybe not so controversial).

I can't stand faux realtime combat in RPGS, whether they be of the W(KOTOR) or J(Xenoblade) varieties. Give me Pokemon/Dragon Quest/Chrono Trigger or give me Zelda. Nothing in between.

Graphics whores are forever chasing their shadow, and thus will never ever be happy.

- Nintendo, as innovative as it's been over the years, doesn't come close to how Sega - or particularly, Yu Suzuki - defined gaming as it is today.

- If the Dreamcast had a DVD player, Sega would have wiped the floor. *And yes I'm still bitter about it*

- Fallout New Vegas is one of the best RPGs to have come out this generation.

- Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is the most rewarding, balanced shooter this gen, and Terrorist Hunt on realistic difficulty is the most terrifying, paranoia-inducing co-op experiences one can have. But by god, those cheap enemy spawns!

- Pro Evolution Soccer still does gameplay far better than anything the FIFA series can manage.

- Vice City was the best GTA, whereas San Andreas - despite fun memories - overdid things with too many incongruent ideas. IV had a great story but I can't say I like the direction in which Rockstar are taking it. Red Dead, on the other hand, was brilliant.

Gust games are moe creep games. That's what they look like beyond also looking very cheaply made. Not something I want to play, yet they are one of the bigger jrpg companies in terms of output.

Depending on what period this question is raised I'd either politely disagree or strongly agree. Ys Seven threw more RPG in in a better fashion than Zelda did at the least!

More in general as a whole. I'd go as far as to say Ys: Oath > Link to the Past

But really, anything Ys is better than Zelda as a whole.

The widespread dumbing-down of video games can be traced back to Metal Gear Solid and the "genius" of Hideo Kojima.

Metroid Prime 2 > Metroid Prime

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker is a bad video game. It's two follow-ups (TP and SS) are B-level at best.

Resident Evil 4 was the worst thing to ever happen to the survival horror genre.

Okami. I didn't like it. I couldn't get into it properly. I quit at the point where I had to fetch some dogs - for the second time! The talking noises were really annoying, the art was a cool effect but those thick outlines made it hard to see things clearly (like what anybody looked like). Up to where I played there were no interesting puzzle dungeon elements like zelda (the game it's similar to apparently?). What I did play wasn't all that memorable really and now I can't go back without reading a million tutorials.

I enjoyed the music though.

EPIC moments in most modern games are empty, because they lack soul and effort. And good storytelling. And good characters. Also because they are used so much for the target audiences. And because good EPIC moments are incorrectly understood as "Shit happens, and some badass does shit that makes other shit explode, and music playing is the shit. OMFS THIS SHIT IS EPIC!!!!!!! Hate it.

The Vita is going to bomb and no-one worth a fuck is going to care.

A shame? Absolutely, considering its a portable system worthy of praise from a hardware standpoint. But, it does not have a single software title that is going to sell it and it never will.

Honestly, Sony would have had a better chance marketing a Android based cellphone with exclusive PlayStation titles than this. Actually, if they did do that, I would say they would stand an excellent chance in actually gaining traction in the U.S./EU market.

But regardless, the Vita is going to start the race with a shovel in both hands, digging its grave, well-knowing it will not come anywhere near close to the PSP's worldwide sales.

The linearity doesn't bother me. It's the dialog and poppy music that I couldn't stand

There's pretty much only like three or four titles that prevent me from dumping my N64 into a fire, that's how overrated the console is.

Here goes....

- Beyond Good & Evil is a very average title. I don't know how it got 'cult'

- Final Fantasy X is the best FF thus far

- Metroid Prime is boring as hell

- Skyward Sword is boring as hell (is that an unpopular opinion?)

- Wind Waker is the best Zelda ever made (is that still an unpopular opinion?)

- Fallout 3 is a better overall experience than New Vegas.

- Bioshock 2, in its own little way is in fact more enjoyable than Bioshock 1

- Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is the best Sonic title ever released

- Final Fantasy 4 is not hated enough

- Borderlands is fun, but *looks at fanbase* dayum it ain't THAT fun

- Silent Hill 2 is not scary, it's just shit.

- Dark Souls must be in the top 5 most boring games I've ever played in my entire life. Not even because of the difficulty, I've enjoyed hard games before. But being hard shouldn't mean you should be slow-paced and dull

- Resident Evil 4 is the best thing to happen to the Resident Evil series

- Bastion was nice, but *looks at public response* DAYUM it wasn't THAT nice!

- Mario Kart 64 is plain shit. The pits. Maybe better than M&M Kart Racing and Madagascar Racing, but that's it.

All for now.

Final Fantasy XIII is a great game, and much, much better than Final Fantasy XII. I loved almost all of it. Prolonged hand-holding aside, the fact that it was an incredibly linear experience allowed the story an uncommon focus that just isn't present in most JRPGs. In fact, my least favorite part of the game was Chapter 11/Gran Pulse, because the story came to a grinding halt in favor of an open world/do whatever you want freedom that people apparently want. And while FF XIII's story lacked a good central villain, I loved the ensemble cast and thought the main characters were much more enjoyable and better-developed than in most RPGs.

Towns, shops, and the illusion of non-linearity from previous FFs (such as VI and VII) amounted to fat that Square cut in order to make a leaner, more to-the-point experience, and I thought FF XIII was better for it. I did not miss those things one bit.

Hope was a good, realistic character, and people give him way too much crap. The kid had been raised almost entirely by his mother until he *watched her die*. If that doesn't give someone a license to be emotional, I don't know what does.

Some of the writing was heavy-handed, sure, but Final Fantasy has always been known for heavy-handed, overly dramatic writing. Why people like to only blame FF XIII for that is beyond me.

I definitely do understand why the people who don't like it feel the way they do, and I can easily understand why FF XIII is not for everyone. But I also think that the haters grossly overstate FF XIII's flaws and try to sell it as The Most Horrible Thing to Ever Happen to Gaming instead of the simply flawed game that it is.

FF XIII is not my favorite FF, but it's in my top five. I'll happily defend it and I've got no problem admitting that I loved it. (I'm also currently enjoying the hell out of FF XIII-2 too, by the way.)

Halo: Reach is the worst halo by far. Awful campaign and awful multiplayer.
Prince of Persia 2008 is the best in the series.
Super Street Fighter 4 is the best street fighter game.
The DS has the best library of games this generation.
Nothing real controversial

In it's current state, the gaming industry is creatively bankrupt.

Although, that's largely due in part to the abnormally long cycle of the current console generation. Obviously the cost it takes to produce a high end gaming experience has a lot to do with that kind of decision making as well.

We've gotten to a weird place where are a lot of people like me loved a game like Deadly Premonition, that by all rights should have been terrible, purely because it's brave enough to go for something completely different.

I am hoping once the new hardware hits the market it encourages developers to try some new ideas.

The indie market for the time being is doing a good job of picking up the slack.

i don't understand either ..metal gear solid actually delivered gameplay AND cinematic narrative and cool cameos/ideas and 2 endings and replay value ...i don't understand "that" sentence..

First game I ever played where I felt like I was watching the experience, rather than playing it. The whole style-over-substance approach, where gameplay was cast aside for presentation. As the player, my impact on the game itself seemed shallow, if at times non-existent.

Most modern games have gone for that approach. Less overall control for the player, more "just coming along for the ride". A lot of campaigns nowadays, I feel like I am just going through the motions as I go along. MGS was the first game where I ever felt that way. It's become the blueprint for modern game design, for better or worse.

I think FFXII is worse than FFXIII if not at least equally terrible. Whereas FFXIII has an ever-present and constantly moving (albeit irredeemably messy) narrative, FFXII's story just kinda throws in the towel halfway through the game and never picks up again. I get to grind and loot for the rest of the game MMO style but without any friends. Just, what the hell?

Also, the protagonist was the pointless thing ever, and summons were completely crippled and were far more trouble than they're worth.
