So iOS-Game GAF. I snagged Trials Xtreme 2 when it was free and am loving it. A lot more than Trails HD in fact, as I am actually good at this one and suck at Trials HD. I think I am only around level 30 or so and I don't know how much I have left to go, but since I am enjoying it so much, I wanted to ask:
Since I own Trials 2, is there any point in getting the first one now? Is it worse? The reviews don't look bad (someone in a review recommended Super Stick Biker, but that has way too many IAP for my tastes). Should I get it if I am enjoying the second one, or is there no point?

I was wondering if anyone else out there does this. I think right now I only have 125 updates or so that I am putting off. One of my favorite games was Open Valve, until they updated it with a level select feature. I thought 'Cool, just what the games needs,' and downloaded it. Little did I know that the update would make the game laggy (how is that possible in a simple Pipe Dream esque game?) and they added dreaded ads to the game.
Now I don't update unless there is something significant added to the game, like retina display or more Street Fighter characters or something.
Anyone else the same?

Load of shit is way too harsh. The hard and expert levels do have shit design though that the controls are ill-equipped to handle. The easy and medium levels are good fun though, and the controls are adequate for them.

Trials HD shits on all the ios clones though.

A lot of the hard/expert levels are shit design no matter what the controls really, but yeah the rest are fine. The controls and physics work well enough for the game.

Bought Darius cause I figured DOJ was probably my least favorite DDP to begin with, and I've always had a thing for Darius' random giant fish bosses. If nothing else I could use the change of pace at least.

Not finished downloading on my iPhone 4 yet, but it runs nicely on iPad 2, pretty sure it's 60fps. It retains the 16:9 ratio so you get black bars. You can move the buttons around...but not onto the black bars for whatever reason, which is weird cause it's still an active control area for movement.

Slide controls like Cave's stuff...not much else to say about that. Main issue I ran into is sliding off the side of the screen since it's running the full width of the screen. There's a smaller screen size option, although it makes the game window seem extra small cause they're pinned to the top (left, center, or right). I guess it's about as big as Cave's small screen size, but combined with the smaller widescreen and just all black background it looks smaller. Just having some artwork there would probably help a bunch.

Bug Princess was based on 240x320 sprite artwork and just scaled up. Darius Burst is all 3D and rendered at native res. It's not a great looking game (I guess you can tell it was a PSP port?) but it looks fine.

Well briefly checked out the flash version of Rebuild and wow the game really does look terrible. But at least the gameplay looks like it holds up since it definitely has my interest for that alone.

I think it's mostly becuase bugger all people play these games! There's only about a few thousand on the leaderboards.

It's a shame. I blame kids today, if it ain't bumpmapped and polygons out yer arse and specular highlighting and piss easy then they don't care. I'm shaking my fist at the sky!!

Yeah I saw somewhere that Darius isn't in the UK yet for whatever reason. Not sure if that's just a temporary thing or if there's some bigger issue involved.

As for Beat Hazard...yeah the menu is confusing at first, took me a while to get past that. It's like the roller selectors, where you swipe up/down to scroll the list, with a single highlight line. Scroll it down (or uh, swipe up?) and tap. Seems to be that for all the menus.

Dariusburst is also not in the german appstore.
But i can wait a few days as DDP DOJ is simply amazing. I'm just confused why they ditched the native IPad support... at least you can remove the 2x button with retinapad. (This should be a STANDARD feature, really!).
Also my copy of Amalur is waiting for me at home... so many good games, so little time!

Fuck. How long's Trials been out for? I bought Bike Baron a few months back because there wasn't anything Trials-y on the App Store. Must buy then. Hope it's not too pricey.

I disagree. the hard/expert levels are just freaking hard thats all. aside from a few misplaced checkpoints, in general the hard levels are interestingly designed.

Why should they care? Most companies release English only games on every store in the world and Apple doesn't bat an eye.

It would be extremely prohibitive if they required translations for every store developers want to release their games on. If your game is text heavy and not localized, the public will vote with their wallets (plus it lets people living in those regions that can actually understand that language experience a game they otherwise couldn't have).

I see no reason to change the policy.

It's entirely up to a developer in which stores to release a game in (simple tick boxes), Apple doesn't care in any way, they just encourage localization.

Sussed out the crazy menu controls on Beat Hazard and had a quick game while I smoked. I'm well chuffed. It's Beat Hazard Ultra in iOS form! Tried twinstick controls and they're passable, although I worry about hitting the powerups in a pinch.

Definitely my 'go-to' bus game though. I hate it when I'm really into an album and then I fire up a game that kills the sound. This bad boy is perfect for those moments. Appreciate the inclusion of a visualiser too.

Deathsmiles had an IAP sale last year too.

Only complaints I have with DDP BD are the lack of Universal (still assuming this is because iPad 1 support was dropped) and... the stage 1 music is desynced due to the launch sequence taking longer than it's supposed to (lol).

I was wondering when Darius Burst would finally hit. Will have to have a go later tonight.
