Seriously guys, what is so bad about this?
Eventually this kind of technology will too confusing for the normal consumer.
Good thing I'm not buying any more Microsoft consoles
You mean Apple.
Everyone jokes but if the touchscreen can be removed a la VMU/pint-sized ipod touch with VMU/ipod functionality I would buy that in a heartbeat.
I really like the idea of a controller screen. I would have liked something more original instead of copying Nintendo though.
No offence, but do you really think that a touch screen controller can't add much to gameplay?
Linky.
"Mobile gaming has so changed in the US," he says. "To me, the iPhone, is pretty close to Xbox one tech, and if they keep multiplying 9x every year it's not going to be long before it's past 360 and whatever is next from Microsoft.
First was the comment from Capps saying gamers should demand hardware to be certain level, and then there was this article linked by east of eastside in the dev kit thread.

To me he's exaggerating about the iPhone power jumps, but that's kind of telling to include Xbox 3 in that comparison. How low of a jump would the console be targeting for him to say that? But like I said in the dev kit thread. Epic, or at least Capps, had a change in tone seemingly with what the next Xbox was shaping up to be.
When I'm playing games I like to lose myself in the world. I'm there. And nothing could be more immersion breaking than looking away from my wall-sized projection screen to some tiny rectangle between my hands. I don't want to look away. This isn't like the DS where the screens are visibly connected and on the same focal plane.Seriously guys, what is so bad about this?
Why would you change the best controller ever made when it's already perfect?
...in attempt to copy one of the worst and most gimmicky conceived?

just give me a regular controller, FUCK
Or the rumour that there might be two types of NextXboxes is actually... true.
They may buy more games, but rising costs means that they have to keep their audiences expanding. The casuals and gimmickry are funding your hardcore games.
Same.This. Whoever releases a system with a regular controller gets my money

If I wanted to play games while looking at my lap, I'll play on my iPhone. Or DS. Or I'll buy a tablet.
This is a gimmick. And I get it, gimmicks sell systems and I'm sure some game will make use of it well, but most wont. Most will have some stupid tacked-on inferior functionality. What's going to be down there? Maps? Gauges? Inventory? Stats? I'd prefer all of those on screen A, in my virtual world with my attention.
That these "extra elements" could hypothetically be delivered through apps like Monumental posted above just furthers how actually unnecessary they are to gameplay. The app / any screen idea is great, leave it at that.
MS has a chance to really nail down the entertainment hub thing next gen. I hope they don't fuck it up with a jack of all trades, master of none system.
*goes back to weeding his lawn / yelling at clouds*

I don't see the major disadvantage to including a screen AND traditional buttons. It only adds more functionality and possibilities into the mix. This thread reminds me of when people said that motion gaming would never catch on.
What I said I am worried about is Microsoft taking for granted the hardcore crowd and developing a next gen console almost exclusively catering to casuals and just assuming the hardcore will stick around even if the next console is only a minor upgrade to current specs and a push toward majority casual friendly games.
So you've already decided you're not going to buy a console that you know nothing about?
I see you wear your heart on your sleeve.
Screens on the controller... see Sega knew what the hell was going on over 14 years ago.
Same here. XBL subscriptions really discouraged me from getting next-generation Xboxes.Good thing I'm not buying any more Microsoft consoles
Let's be really fucking real for a second, SEGA knew what was up with everything ever at this point. Motion controls, "screen-in-a-controller", handhelds that played/had "console like experiences", online, hardware addons... Name something they didn't have going for them, besides money to burn (which ultimately lead to their demise sadly).
They were too far ahead of the times and had to die so the others might live. :lol
People weren't this pissed off when they first saw the touch screen on the DS.
Same goes for the Vita.
Better thing to do is make a better d-pad and don't make a stupid tablet gimmick controller.
just give me a regular controller, FUCK
I'm open to it.
I think more meager hardware will also improve build quality at launch as well. Sounds cool. U/Fusion are going to be port buddies!
