I thought you were getting your Vita next week?

I was reading the online manual

I checked and all I could find were an option to disable the PS button from flashing during a notification, and to disable the sound that comes with a notification.

That's crappy. So I guess the only way is to turn off Wi-Fi? Do scores even post to leaderboards if you're offline?

Dealbreaker for me

The site some of you cried about hating on the Vita gave Rayman a 5/5.

Man they really need to trim down those GB reviews. That one could have easily been a single paragraph long.

You could just not use the app

I won't use the app but I want to make sure it's not giving away my hideout's location.

Nope. I remember default is no auto-update. If you don't start the Near app, then the manual update won't work too. ^_^

Cool, thanks.

Not sure if this was touched upon since I knew a few people were talking about this before without anything conclusive, but I think there's definitely something up with the Ys Chronicles currently on the store. I previously bought it last year but I never got around to it and totally forgot I even had it, and to get ready for the Vita I wanted to pick it up. For some reason the store allowed me to re-buy it, which isn't usually supposed to happen. Then when I was on my download list I noticed the old one, realized what happened and sent an email that is still waiting a reply from Sony (hoping for a refund).

Anyways, the older version of Ys Chronicles was able to be loaded on my Vita, but the newer one that I just rebought wasn't. It looks like they did something to the game and re-released it that is causing it to not be compatible, but the filesizes of both versions seem to be the same.

No. It's Sony's stupid power management policy. I really hope people start complaining to Sony regarding this.

Yea they better remove that, and make always connected online mandatory. Imo, it's a serious problem and the only problem I have with the device. But it is early days right now, best time to fix it ASAP

Why the heck does Hot Shots Golf disable network functions when gyroscope camera control and rear camera are activated. Dumb.

I've been bitching about it for a while hoping Sony would provide a straight answer or people would start to bitch in mass. They noticed it on Giantbomb, but figured it was some network issue (it's not). I wonder if the Vita can't continue to charge while all those things are activated so they just disable it? Or are they dumb and decided to disable the features even when it's plugged in?

Yes. I don't know of any tests that have been conducted to compare the two when it comes to strength.
But keep in mind Gorilla Glass exists because glass is required for LCD screens. This is not the case for OLED.

Why some OLED devices use a gorilla glass variant I can't say.

Educate me. Why is it required ?

Sony Customer Support just called my house. I had called them yesterday about my Super Stardust purchase on PSN before we knew that it was going to be the free game with the Data Plan activation on the 3G units. He clarified with me what my issue was and then immediately refunded my purchase price to my PSN wallet. How's that for service?

So I guess the google docs thing isn't going to work because some jerk wants to have a laugh.
I keep restoring it and they keep deleting it. But locking the document kind of misses the point. Internet.

Is there a way to password protect it? If so, we can hide the password to only GAF users with the whole "email" thing so you have to quote the post to see it.

Ive been doing what I can to avoid the Vita as I can't afford one atm, but I will say I hope it ends up being successful. Looking forward to eventually getting it, though i dont think it will be this year.

*sigh* Well that sucks.

Yeah, you're fighting a loosing battle there unfortunately.

We'd have to get the OP fixed but I created a copy at a new link that we can use. We can try to keep it hidden from lurkers...

Quote to see.

Create a new one, put everything in that new one and hide the link with the email-tags. That way at least, only people in GAF with the link can see/edit it. And if someone tries to be funny, you'll know said person is from GAF.

Not sure about passwords. Tried once and the only way to lock it, required to also share my email/etc. So, did the hidden "trick".

EDIT:
Yeah, what Fixed1979 did.

Thinking of importing a Vita from the US, but saw this in the OP:

“Q: Is the Vita region free?
A: Yes, but you can only have one account activated at a time and online passes are region restricted.”

What exactly does that mean? Does that mean Australian DLC won’t work on a US Vita if imported? 0_o

Exactly. Don't force this on me. Make it a system level option that would disable network features if we want to.

This being forced on us completey negates their supposed claim of cross game chat across all games bullshit.
This is one of the worst mistakes they could make for a device that is supposedly always on line.
And, why in the world would I pay for 3G if most of my games disable the network when I play them? Completely idiotic, imo.

I don't know. LCD is just defined by using glass. It is the required substrate for the technology.
No idea about the actual physical properties of why that is so, only that it is true for LCD and plasmas.
It's the reason people were so excited for OLED 5-8 years ago because you don't need the rigid substrate any more.

For more info check out this article, or just regular wikipedia.

But you're quicker minded than me I guess. Heh.

So a certain retailer in Manhattan emailed to say they have another $350 bundle available to buy right now. I need to be talked out of this right now...

Pretty sure that's what it means.
No, I'm pretty sure it means the account has to be of the same region as the DLC, otherwise it won't work. IE you could've imported a Japanese Vita, but if you have an American account you can go ahead and get Hot Shots Golf, use the online pass on your American account, and play online that way. But if you had a Japanese account you'll need Everybody's Golf 6 instead.

Wait the 5 days and get the 3G bundle with 8 GB card. You'll save $50 and get a bigger memory card.
You know this is correct.

=P

I sent an PM to archnemesis hoping he can update the OP with the same. Unless it's a Gaffer (which would shock me) we should be good.

This is why we can't have nice things.

I also reverted and locked the old spreadsheet and left a note to check the thread for the new link. Hopefully that'll do.

The weekend will go buy in no time. Just wait it out and save yourself $50 and the extra money you would have to pay to buy a bigger memory card.

PS3 and PSP were like that too. On PS3 you could at least have multiple accounts from different regions, so you could play games and stuff from other regions with your main account. DLC has always been tied to the region you downloaded the game for; at least on PS3. So an AU DLC needed AU game to be played; but you coud play them on a US account. Except for online passes, which are region locked too; and in that case the account also needed to be from the same region.

On PSP you could only use one account, so you needed to erase and restore accounts every time. On Vita is the same except you also need to format the memory..or something like that I read. :p

I'm still debating physical over digital . . . any opinions.

Get a mix: physical for bigger games like Uncharted and digital for smaller games that you can pick up and play anytime like Lumines or SSD. You also get the benefit of price drops on physical games, and the small discounts on some digital games.

That's what I'll be doing. I have a 16 GB card and since I always carry my Vita in a case, I can have on me 5 physical games in addition to whatever I have on my memory card.

I've only had one game where that was true. I have 8 other games where that isn't true.

Not true about the formatting. There is a factory reset though, which means entering your details again.

Uncharted and BlazBlue are 3GB+, and to get memory cards to store more than just two games that size you'd need to spend $60 or $100. Seriously, even with a 32 GB card a mixed approach is probably best unless you don't mind deleting games all the time. Nevermind when retail deals crop up like Target's next week.

cheststrongwell

my cake, fuck off
List the PSP games you bought and say which one you feel takes advantage the most of the Vita screen or the dual thumbstick.

My list:

- Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
- Persona 3 Portable
- FF IV Complete
- Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
- Dissidia 012

My vote goes for FF IV Complete, not for the 2nd thumbstick, but because it stretches SO well on the OLED screen. It's a thing of beauty.

Tactics Ogre
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Valkyria II

These are the three that I have downloaded. MH looks pretty good and the dual analog makes a huge difference.

Yeah, it also varies from publisher. In general, the DLC needed to be from the same region as the game (not AU DLC with USA game) as Tricky would've liked.

On Vita is even more strict, since only one account can be activated at a moment. So you can't flip/alternate accounts by just signing-off like in PS3.

One question you have to ask yourself is would you ever want to trade your games. If not and are willing to pay for the 32 GB card then go digital. You get a discount on PSN and will always have immediate access to your games.

I've was torn for awhile, but I went and bought a 32 GB card, I've traded in 5 games in my life and those were to get the Vita.

Ah. So if I get a US Vita and set all my details to Australia I’m all good?
