Should you be holding A down while getting ready for a jump then?

I haven't played a SSX properly before but its that classic Tony Hawk muscle memory kicking in.

Yes, this is called pre-loading in SSX. Pressing the stick/d-pad (depending on you control scheme) while you are pre-loading allows you to pre-wind your spin (means you can do a rotation or flip the instant you take off from the jump) for more trick complexity.

You'll know when you're pre-loading and are able to pre-wind because you won't be able to turn much at all.

The ubers are both triggers right?

Signature tricks (in Super Tricky state, when the TRICKY is fully orange) are performed by LT+RT+any trick button.

Holding down A is crouching before a jump, usually what I do is hold A do some tricks, land then hold A again and wait for the next jump.

That's what I do too, it made you go faster in old Tony Hawk games.

edit:

So I should only hold A down just before a jump not all the time?

I WANT MY DEMO NOW!!!

Ok I'm really getting the hang of it now. Just hit Gold on Bulldog and I think in a few more runs I will be able to absolutely demolish the Gold score, and I should be able to top Tokenbetsu's 13M score as well.

A is a jump button. I pre-load by holding down on the Right-Stick. I use A to jump and do a quick trick to build boost.

Curious if I should be getting this for ps3 or the xbox.

Since the series is originally from playstation I'd like to think this is where it's at, but I'm leaning towards xbox since this is where I spend most of my gaming time.

Wondering if there are any differences at all. Any thoughts?

The series played fine on the original Xbox.

Stick controls seem unreliable especially with the 1/4 swipes. Going to try classic later on.

As for frame rate it definitely drops on the new zealand track at some points but it's not horrible. Shame the riders don't get covered In snow in this one.

Yeah stick controls took some getting used to but with 10.7 million after 5+ tries and gold on three runs (2:15 maybe), I'm getting the hang of it ^^ Is it up on PSN yet?

If you're in NA, the PS3 has an exclusive mountain (Mt. Fuji). Otherwise, I don't think any differences are known yet.

They should have done something like this...
1080 Avalanche Intro

It happens ingame and the clothes have nice flow IMO for the time it was done. (mute sound for horrible intro music)

The damn control scheme setups are questionable, that fucking rewind button should be in the back button like FM4.

I am sticking to the L1 rewind scheme since it's the best one, the other one is too complicated to load up on tricks. Completely unnatural to load up with the d pad imo.

Well that sucks. Was hoping to tear right into this without even looking at the tutorial like I did the Twisted Metal demo.

I did. I did the first 4 of the 22 parts of the tutorial in the air then said fuck this shit and quit the tutorial and chose classic controls.

Worked perfectly in SSX 3, and seems to work just as well in the new one.

I plan on sticking with classic controls unless someone comes up with a real reason not to.

Gold-exclusive demos suck, MS can blow me.

Why does the frigging PSN store not update in the morning >_<

Something I never found a good answer on: Do the stick controls mean there are fewer overall tricks than the before?

Well you have 4 main grabs:

A, B, X, Y (Or X, O, Square, Tri )

Then you can do Variations by doing:

Y > B, or B > X, etc etc.

Then you hold the right trigger to tweak them.

11 grabs, and including grab tweaks that should be 22.

Somebody correct me if I missed a trick or 2.

EDIT:
About 22 for regular tricks
As Stormwatch said, you get different tricks in Tricky and Super Tricky.

I'd say thats a fair amount of tricks.

Actually, I think there are more tricks. You can have initial inputs on the stick and then rotate the stick to choose what side of the board you touch. For example, more the stick to the right to choose that you are going to touch the board with your right hand and then rotate to the up position to touch the front of the board. Then when you go into Tricky doing that same move will have you take your foot off the board. Going into Super Tricky will make you take both feet off the board. On top of that each of those moves can be tweaked.

In the tutorial hit Start and then Quit and that will take you to the main menu. You still have to watch the video, though.

Alright, good to hear. When it comes to games like these, I enjoy diving right into it even if it means I don't know what the hell I'm doing. :)

Sounds a lot like Pure. Sweet. I may just like this new control scheme yet.

Demo still downloading on my 360....getting hype!!!

I miss replays more than I miss split-screen. I wanna see some of that cool shit I just did in slo-mo and from multiple angles.

There's no split screen. It must be a technical hurdle they just can't get over.

Well, if they're having trouble getting a stable framerate in the single player portion of the game, it's doubtful they'd handle splitscreen in a competent way.

I'm holding out hope the PS3 version has a more stable framerate

Finished the demo, much better than I'd expected! There were flashes of SSX Tricky brilliance, let's hope it carries over to the final product.

Those graphics though, eww.

Downloading as we speak! A decent amount of demos have been coming out this year so far. Hopefully this will continue for the year. I loved playing the previous SSX games, but not sure if I want to buy this game yet. The demo will definitely help me make up my mind on the purchase.
