Happy Birthday, Nintendo 3DS! Has it been a year already?

Must... wait... for... revision...

Pretty much the only option at the moment IMO. I'm not weak enough to consider buying either handheld before I know what the 3DS revision will pack. I certainly hope it's part of some sort of restructuring strategy Nintendo unveils at E3 along with a heavily reworked Wii U.

Just... what do you think a 3DS revision would have that would be a part of a restructuring strategy?

Wait, it's been 12 months and still no word on revision? DS Lite was announced on DS' 13th month and GBA SP was announced on GBA's 17th month. New 3DS should have been revealed earlier than its first anniversary. Come on Nintendo, don't make me wait, show that damn thing. On next Nintendo Direct if possible.

I think it's ridiculous expecting, thinking or even waiting for a revision.

And wow, 1 year already? Times goes by so fast.
Amazing titles for the rest of the year though, I'm especially looking forward to Luigi's Mansion 2.

i think it`s ridiculous not to think of a revision, only for people who DONT have the system yet.

for people who have a 3ds, who the hell cares, go play your games, and let us wait it out :)

Pretty easy; a Japanese one.

Heh, that might be a nice "souvenir" when I visit Japan in a few months. Trouble is that I'm still pretty reliant on voice acting since my knowledge of kanji and reading them still leaves a lot to be desired.

Do 3ds games have voice overs?

God, it feels like I just bought the thing... hmm, warranty's up soon then. Might send it off with bullshit repairs to make it 'new' again.
Haha, I'm getting ready to do the same thing. Only problem is, I don't want to miss out on Mario kart time with the gaf crew.

Rough launch, but I'm so, sooooooooooo so happy with my 3DS now.

Many exclusives coming out, great games out already (just bought Tales of the Abyss and Rolling Western, still playing Revelations and I might bite 3D Land soon).

While I'm out, there's always time for a few Pushmo puzzles, Find Mii, and soon ePicross.

Basically, my go to platform since November. I won't post the huge ass list of upcoming games I'm eagerly looking forward to, but MH3G and AC3D could destroy my social life.

Looks like we have a true successor to Nintendo DS.

I went ahead and got it today. I bought the black one because I'm told once you purchase black products you continue to purchase black exclusively at the cost of all other options.

I got DQIX and Resident Evil. They didn't have Mario and I didn't feel like waiting for Amazon to ship it to me.

Can't believe it's been a year already. Bought it day one, and have been loving it since. Super Mario 3D Land is one of my favorite games in a long time, and I'm pumped about the lineup this thing has this year.

a year in, the tech feels so outdated already. Not really a problem with such a bright future in software but 3DS really shows how fast technology evolves, even in just a year's time.

Woah, it's been a year? I guess since the japanese launch but it still feels weird that it's been a year.

Oddly I don't have that many games for the system yet but I really like it, and definitely will be glad I got one once Luigi's Mansion, Kid Icarus, Paper Mario come out.

You made the right decision. But believe the hype, 3D Land is a game you have to get. It's still the showcase, killer app of the system.

Well some do... I don't think Etrain Oddisey will for example...

Got my 3DS on the very first day. I need to send it in to repair the screen scratching before it really is a full year...

Was an amazing year, though. I bought a good amount of games, including 4 third party ones.

I went ahead and got it today. I bought the black one because I'm told once you purchase black products you continue to purchase black exclusively at the cost of all other options.

I got DQIX and Resident Evil. They didn't have Mario and I didn't feel like waiting for Amazon to ship it to me.

If you decide to order only one game from the Internet, you should get Tales of the Abyss over Mario. There will always be Mario in stores, but Tales is allegedly a limited run and very hard to find now, so...

Mario 3D is amazing, though, and a must play title.

Do 3ds games have voice overs?

Tales of the Abyss voices the important events and skits (the latter of which aren't voiced in America).

Good choices, but yes needs more Tales of the Abyss.

3DS is amazing. It's exactly what I want from a handheld.

This year's lineup looks goddamn incredible too, and that's not even counting the games that will be revealed at E3.

I love Zelda:OoT, Super Mario 3D Land, Resident Evil: Revelaitons, and Rayman 3D (which is a great DreamCast port btw), but nothing coming soon interests me. I am excited/hopeful for E3. Please announce a new Zelda tailored to the 3Ds, as well as a new Metroid and Castlevania.

I'd love a Super Mario 64 reremake with the same treatment as Zelda: OoT.

Skiesofwonder

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
Personally my first year with the 3DS has probably been one of my best ever with a system, and by far the best with any handheld. Maybe it's because I missed out on the latter part of the DS line-up (sold my DSi) and not having have much experience with the GBA, because I have spent a ton of time lately catching up on the amazing-ness that I missed out on thanks to cheap DS games and the ambassador program.

But I've also had a blast with the 3DS-specific software/applications. On the retail side; Pilot Wings Resort, Steel Diver, Street Fighter 4, Ghost Recon, Legend of Zelda: OoT 3D, Star Fox 3D, Super Mario Land 3D, Mario Kart 7, and Resident Evil: Revelations have all been quality experiences. Also, Sims 3 and Nintendo Dogs & Cats were the experiences that got my girl friend into gaming, and I will always be thankful that. On the application side; AR cards, Nintendo Video, Swapnote, 3D camera, and even Face Raiders have been cool little diversions. And most surprising of all, the E-Shop has been offering quality content weekly since the beginning of December. Pushmo, Freaky Forms, Mutant Mudds, VVVVVVV, Sakurai Samurai, and now Dillion's Rolling Western (along with demos and DSi Ware titles needing attention); it's really a bit overwhelming to keep up with.

Since the beginning of this year, over 90% of my gaming has been done on the 3DS. As someone who was basically console-exclusive at the start of this generation, that pretty much speaks for itself. And, looking at the upcoming line-up, it seems to only get better from here. Happy Birthday 3DS, here's to many MANY great years to come!!!

Edit: The Swapnote thread needs to be added to the popular 3DS thread section. Over 40 pages and growing.

Been absolutely loving the system since launch. Plenty of great games out, and plenty of games coming out.

Oh, and OP, you spelled Revelations wrong.

The revision might not come very soon. They'd have to either charge an inadvisable premium vs. the original unit or drop the price on the original in order to tier their offerings, and it wouldn't be a good idea to discontinue the original and eliminate the $170 price point.

I think they'll continue with the current unit and price until they can offer a meaningfully better unit at a higher margin, and they'll use the revision to replace the original and maintain a price around $170-180.

It really hit it's stride for me towards the end of the summer

I now own:

Super Mario 3D Land
Shinobi
Star Fox
Zelda Ocarina of Time
Ridge Racer
Resident Evil Revelaitions
MGS3D
Tales of the Abyss
Mighty Switch Force
Sakura Samurai
Mutant Mudds

Enjoying it far more than I did my DS.

I've never been into handhelds really. I passed up the gameboy, game gear, all that. I bought a DS for my daughter about 2 years ago, and decided to get the 3ds on day 1 last year. I can say I've hand a tremendous amount of fun with this little gadget and absolutely love it!

Happy birthday 3ds!

A whole year and 3D Land is the only game released that I would even to think about buying. :/

Well, could be a good thing. Makes waiting for a dual circle pad revision quite easy.

Had a shitty start in the beginning and lagged for months and got put on lol mode with the frankenstick, but it ended up making a small comeback at the end with the price drops, sales, SM3DLand, Pusmo and Revelaitons. Hopefully this year will be much better, with games like Fire Emblem and Kingdom Hearts coming down the road.

Ugh, I've been holding out for the hardware rev., but the software list gets more and more compelling. Make it happen Nintendo!

It's been ok. Got it at launch, barely used it until November, and was not at all happy about the $80 price drop given that I have no interest in the ambassador games. The only thing keeping me from trading it in and waiting for the revision is the fact that as far as I know there's no way to get all my stuff copied unless it was transferred to another 3DS. That being said, Ocarina, 3D Land and Mario Kart were all awesome and hopefully I'll be able to get something decent back for my 3DS once the revision comes out although that's probably a lost cause.

Didn't really notice the rough start because i unexpectedly went from being "I guess this version of ridge is a bit meh" to "more ridge more ridge roar midge phoar fridge"

Was impressed by the simple fun of the street pass stuff which i'm sure works a lot better in Japan than in the US/Europe but hey - it's well executed and i'm glad it got expanded.

There was a lul in announcements i guess but i think people were more interested in the wider events out here so wasn't really a hot topic! lol.

I never actually thought about this until i started typing but :

During the whole fukushima/tsunami business , the family moved down to Kyoto for 4 days into the Fukushima melt down. I had work commitments that i couldn't avoid and, because of potential black outs, there was talk of me heading to HK to make sure i could complete what i needed to coordinate, for me Kyoto (west japan is on a different power grid) was a better option. I guess that's where i really grew some extra affection for the 3DS. The family was able to relax and go see Kyoto but i had to spend 14 hours a day each day in the hotel room working. In the times when i had breaks i could sneak in a bit of gaming and it was welcome release from stress.

My Japanese machine never leaves my side from that point on with over 1.3million steps logged as testiment lol.

Love the machine - even more now they are fitted with Nyko power skins.

For the record, i'm at 57 retail games. two units - 1 US , 1 JPN. Last game bought was MGS3D but won't be here until it gets over in my monthly shippment from the US.

Really happy with my 3DS so far, it was certainly a 'wow' moment the first time I saw the glasses-free 3D with my own eyes. Monster Hunter in 3D is going to be amazing!

So, what's going to be the "game to celebrate the 1st. birthday" aka the next you're thinking on buying for the system?

Mine has to be Kid Icarus. Can't wait to play the game and to add the big box next to the one who came with RE:R and the one who came with One Piece.

I'm a sure a revision will come but I won't be picking up another 3DS unless they release that badass orange one.

So far I own:

Dead or Alive: Dimensions - It's DoA. not much to say.

Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights - While the gameplay is a snooze fest I do enjoy the characters, story, and the animated sequences look great in 3D

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D - Still not a fan, only picked it up because it was half off, 3D looks great but the ghosting really kills it.

Mario Kart 7 - First MK I've really enjoyed since 64. Online is super smooth and I love the customization and the glider/submarine stuff.

Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions - Surprisingly good. I dig Pac-man tilt, the new galaga was fun, and I love having classic galaga with me at all times. Too bad the DX stuff was outdated.

Pilotwings Resort - great 3D and really fun. A little light on content though.

Resident Evil Revelations - Haven't finished it yet. The piss poor story and lack of any substantial penalty for dying has really sapped my interest in it. Having to unlock hell mode doesn't help matters. Raid mode is great though.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D - Would have been great had Capcom not crapped out on characters, outfits, and stages.

Samurai Warriors Chronicles - LOVE this game. Totally turned me into a musou fan.

Starfox64 3D - Might be my favorite use of 3D on the system. Still Star Fox, still great.

Steel Diver - I enjoyed it but I wish multiplayer was online.

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition - fun to waste time between classes with a couple of matches. Street pass mode is a bust since you can't actually collect everything.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars - Freaking awesome game despite essentially being a DS game and Banshee becoming stupidly overpowered as time goes on.

I still need to pick up Shinobi, Ace Combat, 3D Land, and Snake Eater.

I'm looking forward to Kid Icarus, Spirit Camera, and Rhythm Thief in the short term and Paper Mario, luigi's Mansion, Mario Tennis, Extreme Escape Adventure, Etrian Odyssey, and Fire Emblem.

I'm trying to shift from console gaming to focusing on just portable stuff and the 3DS is making that a very easy transition. Streetpass and spotpass sole me on the system, glasses free 3D has turned out to be really nice, and the game library is shaping up really well despite so many games getting cancelled or left in Japan.

Time goes fast.

Bought a superior Aqua Blue 3DS launch week with Pilotwings Resort. Traded in my DSi and a couple games.

Mostly played DS games on it until the eShop was up and running and OOT released.

This year's game releases has the potential to be great. Rhythm Thief, Layton 5, Ace Attorney 5, Layton vs Wright, Good People Die, Mario Tennis, Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus, Animal Crossing, and Paper Mario are on my radar.

My 3DS is the only console I've ever bought that crapped out on me. Had to send it in for repair, Nintendo said they replaced the main board.

Hoping Nintendo brings back out a matte colored version.

Playing Tales of the Abyss right now- great game. The game I've put the most time into is Ridge Racer 3D, which really sucked me in as an old Ridge fan. Beat the championship to 100%.

Definitely Kid Icarus. I really think this game will be something else.

Well since Nintendo second guessed themselves when it came with control options on the 3DS and the Wii U is looking increasingly half-baked and Nintendo is aware of such, I don't see why they wouldn't simultaneously announce both products in conjunction with their Nintendo Network integrated into new firmware/OS for the 3DS as one huge E3 presentation. Not as a sort of rebranding, but to at least show they're committed to their consumers and are keeping an ear to what people want out of both the handheld and console space.

Either 'If I were trapped in a room with a girl I'd proably' or 'Hatsune Miku Project Mirai'. I would consider Kid Icarus but without a demo I'm not going to bother.

You are still comparing the two. I mean, you could have said it doesn't have enough games you want. But you ranted on about how it was a huge disappointment even though every other system usually has a limited lineup during it's first year (especially the DS).
At no point did I say the other platforms weren't weak in their first year though. This is a common really bullshitty thing about GAF, you can't criticize anything without someone thinking you're secretly defending something else. This is a 3DS thread, I'm saying the 3DS disappointed me. If I was going to say another system disappointed me, it'd be in a thread dedicated to that.
