Team Meat: 3DS eShop has a 2GB limit for DD. [Misquoted, not true]

Are we sure they weren't talking about XBLA?

I wish there was some way to put another card, or to copy its data to a computer hard drive to free space, or to erase and redownload stuff when needed.

That's not a very good solution. With the PSP I was juggling 4 different memory cards and using my PC for backup and it was a huge pain in the ass whenever I wanted to find something that I wanted to play.

If they release 3D ports of Metroid Prime, Wind Waker and F-Zero GX, I'll be there day 1.

3d screenshots of those games look so pretty on the 3DS, shame it's unlikely to ever happen.

But cool about the size limit. What's the largest eshop title to date?

Reminder: The current theoretical limit for 3DS retail games is 8GB, according to Macronix. And they should know, considering they provide the chips. The initial theoretical limit on the DS was 128MB (and I believe anything above 64MB already required memory translation hacks), yet the biggest games were 512MB in the end. I don't really expect 3DS games to follow the same path, so I don't expect to ever see a 32GB 3DS game, but with ROMs, there is no real, hard limit.

If the official limit is 8gb and we're not at games that require via. Yet I'm sure we'll be very impressed by the ones that do, however I'm sure with trickery we'll get bigger ones

Is it possible for Nintendo to increase the storage limit on the 3DS btw? I could see 32GB getting full a few years down the line, particularly since most devs won't be compressing anything.

I don't think it is.
It takes special readers to read the new SD cards that are more than 32GB.
But I dunno.

Would likely require just buying an extra card. Thankfully Nintendo went with plain old with their SD cards so they are cheap.

Outside of a ridiculous amount of CG or full VA tracks across multiple languages (like what RE:R currently does), what could possibly necessitate even a 16GB on both the 3DS and Vita?

You don't think the 3DS could handle Gamecube emulation? Hmmm. You're probably right, I guess the 3DS is built differently.
Why emulate them though? How difficult would it be to port a GameCube game to 3DS?

3D versions of Metroid Prime, Wind Waker and F-Zero GX on eShop = system sellers for me.

Saying the 3DS could emulate the GameCube is pure nonsense. Doesn't matter how efficient the code is. Those are very different machines and Gamecube emulation still requires the top of the line processors to run. You could re-write your code all day but you're not getting it on the 3DS.

A port is more realistic. I would say even an executable wrapper but the 3DS wouldn't be powerful enough for that either.

I wish downloadable retail games would've been available from the start if they're gonna go that route. I'll probably buy all my games as carts now just so they'll be the same.

I'm pretty sure we won't ever see retail games to release as well on eShop. Even though the hooks, features and intentions are already there (this is, they just have to press the "start" button), I don't think they want to start a war with retailers.

Iwata just said last month that they were aiming to put retail games on the eShop.

i'd gladly buy retail games off eshop. All i ask in return is download percentage so i can tell how far the download is.

yeah but it would be nice to see a number lol

You can see a number if you select "Download Later", close the eShop, and close your 3DS. In sleep mode, it will download your application. Just open your 3DS and click on the translucent package icon and it will give you a "percentage of download complete" indicator.

what's the max size card that 3DS can handle?

i'm already running out of space.

With the current firmware it's 32GB (SDHC), but the new SDXC standard is software upgradeable to support cards up to 2TB. It uses the same slot as the standard one found in the 3DS (and Wii, and DSi etc etc).

Like the Wii was updated to support cards up to 32GB. Biggest cards out now are 128GB I think.

Oh news to me, thanks.

Waitwaitwaitwaitwait. Gamecube discs had a max capacity of 1.4GB.

Theoretically, couldn't Nintendo totally release Wind Waker on eShop
Wind waker was less than 500mb without the end credits video. Id love to see them revisit it on 3ds, and make it perfect, but I don't think they ever will :(

Not the same thing.

How? Both would be new fronts, on Nintendo's part, in the online market.

-One is releasing demos via e-shop
-One is releasing retail games via e-shop

Both would be part of Nintendo's new online presence.

For the demos they are releasing newer game demos and then filling the in-between time with demos of older games.

The only reason someone would say what you said is if they think Nintendo, as a company, was so stupid that even though they are releasing 3DS games via e-shop only old gaes would be released.

The exception would be if Nintendo put a month time restraint on when games would be available online, so as to please brick and mortar stores.

So, tell me how it isn't comparable at all?

That high? Got it, need to figure out how to get my 32 GB Transcend card to NOT have "Card can't be read" errors when going to sleep like happened with me on Swapnote.
