The *Definitive* PSP RPGs for Vita Thread

Different strokes. :) It's difficult for me to think FFT is the more challenging game since I've played it dozens of times by now and now its ends and outs. I think TO is definitely more challenging now, but that might only be because I'm not familiar with it.

I like TO's story a lot, although that's not why I would ever recommend a game over another. Smith's translation in TO is amazing where FFT seems to be trying to mimic it. But that being said, I really couldn't care less about the story. I come for the gameplay and for me TO is the best available, followed by FFT.

The original version of TO was much harder due to the lack of the Wheel of Fortune mechanic and instant permadeath for most of the game. The latter part of the game is probably slightly harder since they severely debuffed the swordmaster class which used to be super broken. Still, there aren't really any maps that match the difficulty of the
Wiegraf
fights in FFT.

Also they buffed the hell out of Canopus on the PSP. He's TO's Orlandu now.

I want to try Trails because of all the praise it gets, but it's nearly £30 on the store... yeah, think I'll wait for a sale. Hopefully there'll be one soon.

Wasn't a Vita version announced recently for Trails in the sky?
No, that was Zero no Kiseki which will never see the outside of Japan.

OK! Last Persona related question for me (I finally bought the P2/3 bundle!)

I played Persona 3 on PS2 but I didn't complete it, I did get far (35~ hours) and I do know what happens at the end but not how it happens. Should I go for FeMC? I'm thinking it'll be fun to play as her, I guess.
reposting for new page!

Which battle theme do you prefer?

Some other songs change too, like the after school theme:

Wiping All Out is actually pretty good (and the after school theme is alright too), BABYBABYBABY gets tiresome after a while. FeMC it is!
Do you mena the PSP or the Vita version? I think the latter has a chance.
I honestly think the Vita version has no chance, the dubs would cost way too much for XSEED and they still have Trails in the Sky Second & Third chapter to do before they even think about Zero no Kiseki. But hey, I'd love to see it get localized, the soundtrack is amazing and the game looks so good.

I got most of my game saves from psp transferred over to vita (Looking for TO game save. Only found the quick save which works)

EDIT: Got it! sweet!

We've had games cut out dubs, partially or fully, in extreme cases like this I think more people would be sympathetic than angry with Xseed, though I think a partial dub (major events, like in Lunar or something) would be a good compromise. The bigger problem with Zero is, yeah, they need to get through 2 and 3 first.

I think it's a great idea to play as the FeMC as long as you don't mind not finishing as the male. The story is essentially the same, but the social links for the characters differ. But if you wanna restart the game with a fresh feel, the FeMC is the way to go. She's a lot of fun and the game just feels different with her (not that I didn't like the male). And you can always go back and play as the boy later on a new game plus if you want. Personally, I don't think you get the *full* P3 experience til you do both, but that may be just me.

Ys Seven is amazing...I sort of gimped myself on the third boss since I haven't upgraded any of my weapons. -_- That was crazy (difficult).

But wow - this game is something I NEVER knew about. I'm sad I never experienced it on my PSP, but my Vita is getting some mega playtime thanks to this. Thanks again this thread!

So how does the vita 'nub' hold up for fast paced games like Ys? I recall my thumb feeling exceptionally sore after playing Ys felghana for a while.

I bought the PDP Trigger grips, so it feels slightly more like a controller (Vita). I've never had that moment like I do with my 3DS where I say, "Wow, this sucks.". Very playable - same for Gods Eater Burst, which is more finicky on positioning.

The Vita has a full fledged mini analog. Mini in that it's smaller but has good range for a portable analog. Definitely not a nub, to clear it. I know you may have been kidding but I had to clarify.

And of course it holds up. I've used it exclusively for Vita and PSP games and have had no issues.

Im considering Gods Eater. Whats your impressions? Does having the camera mapped to the right analog help with fighting? How about the graphics?

While GEB is no Monster Hunter, it is fantastic. The camera takes some getting used to though - that would be my sole complaint. But otherwise, it's a nice twist on the MH feel - more action and shooting. Graphically, it's not going to blow you away, but if you've had a chance to play a PSP MH game, it's about there.

The right stick maps perfectly to the d-pad. Also, the L trigger allows you to tap to center, so that helps the slight camera challenges. The game is solid, and I think it's $20 still (maybe?). Definitely looks and plays gorgeously (and loads SUPER quick - a huge plus).

I actually played about 6 hours of GEB not sure why I lost interest. But what I did play was fantastic. I though the graphics were stunning. But I found the combat irritating even with auto lock. My gripe, as was my gripe with MH was the damn camera. With the ability to map it to the right stick does the combat run more smoothly?

I don't know how using the right analogue would work in God Eater (probably because I'm so used to the normal controls).

The game is fast, nothing like Monster Hunter. You'll be needing to turn the camera while dodging/jumping/attacking/shooting/etc if you've got a number of enemies around you.

The game is really good though - Advice: don't try and get into bullet customising, it's like crack.

Ah, OK. If that was your gripe, then yes - it does help. Again, it's NOT perfect by any means, but it plays significantly more like it should. :)

Hmm, any reason Gurumin is listed as not working?
I just loaded it via My ps3 and it started, have not had a chance to play it though.

Also, thanks for putting the list together, I have it bookmarked.

It's listed under untested/not working, any confirmations of working will get it bumped to working.

... Or would if there wasn't that meltdown a few pages back. Maybe a mod can bump it over for you.

Ah, well I'll play it to a save point and post my results.
Edit: Well that was a short to save intro. I was able to save, i'll play a bit more. Nothing abnormal to report so far.
Edit 2: Finished the first dungeon, i'd say there is nothing wrong. Who knows if there is some obscure vita bug later, but i'd put it a category up in the "working" ranking.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
It's almost an rpg, but Symphony of the Night is pretty great in this thing, probably the best visuals/controls you could ask for.

I just beat it, but how do you access the new game+ and upside down castle again? After the credits it just kicked me to the title screen and using my save just puts me before Richter again...

I'm looking to pick up one of the RPGs that I missed on the psp. It's down to either Lunar or Trails in the Sky. Since they are pretty close in price, I can't decide. Would you all suggest one over the other?

I played Lunar back in the day on PSX, It was a nice classic style story, but I did not find the combat memorable. Trails is a better game IMO, but there is a strong likelihood of the sequels never being localized...

Apparently the original Japanese version didn't support quotation marks and Falcom didn't want to reprogram it to include them.

Yeah, you get used to it anyways. Who knows how many hours it would have taken to fix.
I so very much hope we get the others translated, even if there is no voice work.
