Still nothing. Argh.
Jesus christ.
It's right there dude, first column labeled Internet Explorer with the e next to it!
(Did you change the default browser? I think metro IE disappeared for me too when I set chrome as default).

I did install Chrome and set it as default. Google's not playing around anymore, damn. It's right there dude, first column labeled Internet Explorer with the e next to it!

I was about to install MSE until I found that it was already included. That's great to see but I agree that they need to make it known to the user that they have it without needing to dig.And why Windows Defender (AKA the new Microsoft Security Essentials) hidden under the Action Center? I think everyone should know that they have built in protection from viruses etc.
there is a windows update section in the metro settings.Another thought: Why is Windows Update not a Metro app? Would have made everyone's lives easier.
And you gotta love how there is still an old ass link for installing updates for other software like Office (this link is soooo Vista lol).
Alright, installed the CP on my workstation.
This will be fun spoilerit won't).
How do I access the media controls outside of the music app?
Why can't I go "back", using the back button on my mouse? This seems so obvious, it's weird they didn't implement it.
Does metro go back to the last app, when I click on my desktop on the other screens? What's the point of live tiles, when I can't see them?
Whoever thought horizontal scrolling for Messages in the people hub makes sense, neds to be fired.
I want my main taskbar and metro on difference screens. I'm used to look in the lower corner of my big screen
Read on twitter (Charlie Kindel afair) that someone had a problem where none of the apps that used an account worked right. He did a Windows update and the problems went away
Haven't been able to move Metro apps to the second monitor, my Desktop apps that I open through the start menu open in the place where I closed them previously.Anyone able to describe how multi monitor works a bit more? I get the jist that desktop shows on the second monitor and metro on the main, but say I click a tile on the main metro desktop that opens a desktop app. Does that mean it always opens on the second monitor? Or does it put it on the main, and the desktop spans both monitors then? My second monitor is a 4:3, I'd want to keep things like photoshop on my main, and keep things like IM clients on the second monitor. Can you move metro apps to the second monitor? Etc etc?
Yeah, that's my main issue with metro apps as well.
I set up two mail accounts, selected one. Trying to get back was a bitch. Navigating back doesn't work and there doesn't seem to be a single, visible UI element that can be used to either navigate back or display a list of accounts. Going back to the start screen also didn't change things (which I guess makes sense, but still). So far the only solution I found is getting that options bar at the bottom and clicking accounts. Anyone got an alternative?
Also, what is it with the ugly aliasing in metro apps? The account list is an ugly, blurry mess.
But yeah, my biggest problem with metro is that it's damn confusing figuring out where you are and how to navigate around. Also, it feels like I'm flying blind once I'm in a metro app.
Faaaaantastic.
Just to point out: you have to select Settings or hit WinKey+W to get to the results in the Settings category, which contains those links. And no, the start screen does not work exactly like the start menu. Search in the new one sucks. It doesn't find nearly as many shortcuts as the old one did (windows update or language controls for example).
Windows 8 dev preview did not work well in virtualbox either.
To swap accounts you use the bottom bar (or right click on kb/mouse). I get the impression that those bars are how the intend for you to move around an app but its not there yet.

i'm sure they already know about the issues. They don't really get much feedback from users like they used to. one reason it probably isn't called a beta anymore. This beta will be great for MS to collect feedback from laptops/desktop users since there aren't many Windows tablets on the market.
I hope so anyway.

Ok, does anyone know what I have do to after I make that partition? I made the partition but it says it can't install to that because it's a dynamic volume which isn't supported for installation? What does this mean and is there a way to fix it?

Did you look long enough to realize that the Start Screen does literally everything that the Start Menu does, as easily and quickly as the Start Menu does it, plus a lot more?
I wouldn't get your hopes up, but there is an update function built into the Store, so who knows... I think I got updates for 3-4 apps right away, although I'm not sure what they did.If they know about the issues then does that mean we will get updates that adds/removes stuff? Or do we have to wait for the retail release?
Yeah. Hopefully that gets changed so all the results appear at once.Cool, but this is simply not true.
Pressing win + specifickey and then typing is not as easily and quickly as just pressing win and typing in whatever I'm looking for.

Once a disk has been converted to dynamic, the only way to change it back is to delete the partition(s) and recreate it as a basic disk.
What the hell are/were Microsoft THINKING with Windows 8? This is a complete and utter mess of an operating system.
- It's a pain in the ass to close applications.. The close button and double left corner click work!
- 'current' applications on the left panel aren't live so you have no idea what something is doing until you open it.
- Do a search, sometimes things will appear on the desktop sometimes they'll appear as a Metro app with very little distingushing features outside of an icon.
- The 'charms' take an age to appear.
- Settings often feel completely hidden, in random places or just 'wrong'
- Performance in metro apps is horrible
- The start screen is just devoid of personality
I love Metro, when done well. I think Windows Phone 7 and Zune look fantastic. But god damn Microsoft, as a desktop operating system Windows 8 is a shit storm.
Unless you make some real changes I'm out until windows 9.
to close an app all you do is drag down from the top.... not the hardest thing in the world to do.
the left bar is there only to allow for a quick way to see what's open... it does the same thing wp7 does in showing you a picture of the last state of the app.... it would be benificial for them to add some text though since some of the pictures are hard to tell what they are. Also you can click the top right corner to swap between apps as well which will show their "live" view.
I am not seeing any performance issues.... even through the vm.
I agree with you about the personality aspect but I think this is because most apps do not utilize the live tile yet... I bet in the final version it will seem much more alive.
you don't need to close metro applications, they go into a suspended state after not being used. But if you do want to close them, you can either drag down from the top while in an app or slide your mouse to the top left and then down to access that menu and right click the app to close. And yeah they are not live because they are not doing anything even though they are still open. I have had no confusion over what is a metro app or desktop in the app selection screen /shrug. If you don't want to wait for the charms bar use win + c. The bar does have problems with multi monitors though, but they are aware of the issue. And yeah the apps are buggy, thats why its a beta. What the hell are/were Microsoft THINKING with Windows 8? This is a complete and utter mess of an operating system.

beta, shit aint finishedWhy is it that in some apps (USA Today, LA Times etc..) that I cant scroll left and right with my mouse?
Why do I have to use the start screen to pin/unpin applications to my taskbar? It doesn't make any sense to remove this option.
At least you're lucky enough so it ties it to your account language. My copy just randomly selects German language; I know that German is right besides Poland but that doesn't make the language any more familiar :/.Don't tie app language settings to my account language! The live account I'm using for the beta isn't an US account and even though I downloaded the US beta, it shows the live apps in a different language. Stop doing that, ffs.
you had to go through the start menu to select an app to pin it, i don't know why you would expect it to be different. Why do I have to use the start screen to pin/unpin applications to my taskbar? It doesn't make any sense to remove this option.
You don't have to. You can still just click on the icon on taskbar and pin it there or just RMB on application and select "pin to taskbar".
