Blue Storm was a bit disappointing for me, but I remember myself spending countless hours with Wave Race 64. Such an amazing game.
A new Wave Race with online play, next-gen graphics and awesome, physics-based gameplay, would be amazing.

I really want a racing game by Monster Games at launch. It'd be nice if it were a new wave race, but I'd settle for another excite game too. They put out pilot wings last year though so unless they've been working on a wii u launch title at the same time, I'm not sure if we'll see anything from them this year. It's definitely possible though.

Can Retro handle technical stuff and leave Nintendo internal studios handle music, art direction, characters modeling PLEASE?
For Zelda

=/

If Factor 5 was still around, they would be perfect for this job. It's a shame Nintendo didn't "save" them in order to use them for all the technical stuff. Those guys were able to pull off crazy things out of any kind of hardware.

Don't forget that Nintendo held Retro's hand firmly throughout the development of Metroid Prime; they would probably be even more strict with Zelda. EAD could enforce the art direction, story, and game design, while Retro simply does the grunt work putting it all together.

the famous behind closed doors part of a Nintendo DKC promotional VHS
Oh man, I lost that VHS... :(

*blush*

In order to emphasize the new controller's screen for the Nintendo Juicy™, I'd love to see Miyamoto, Reggie, Iwata, and Gabe Newell come out on stage in Teletubbie costumes.

So awesome..
Holding hands and skipping.

All of this talk about a 3DS redesign has me giggling. No reason to right now. 3DS is killing Vita as is. Though I will say having my Vita for a week or so its difficult for me to go back to a single analog stick. Seriously Nintendo screwed up in that area. Vita controls are god tier.

No additional functions
Seriously.
There's no way that Pilot Wings took all of Monster to make.
They have to be working on something for the Wii U.
And what better than Excite Boats!

I can just imagine racing along and a volcano erupts under water. The heat creates a massive air bubble which you sink into. Suddenly you're racing in an underwater cavern. The next lap, the same volcano turns into a mountain sending you soaring thru the air. That's just one track. The could do many more. They'd have to come up with a new way of dealing with overheating though.

I agree with you on this ^__^

Wow, this is the second time today I've come to Gaming looking for this thread and had to go back three pages to find it.

Could it be? Have we finally run out of non-news to talk about?

It's the calm before the storm. We have to rest up.

Next week is going be brutal for me though. I have 1 or 2 quizzes every day and a goddamn mock practical to study for. And the universe expects me to keep up with GDC too? I'm only human, danmnit!

edit: and damn you Pyromaniac! took the words right out of my mouth...

Kinda curious now. Crytek guy suggested on twitter a big announcement from a partner at GDC. We have heard that Crytek has a Wii U thing behind closed doors. Could Nintendo maybe lift the veil?

If timesplitters is being revealed at GDC, I doubt they'll mention wii U at all, even if it is eventually bound for the system. Nintendo has made it painfully clear that they're waiting for E3 to officially announce any and all software.

This has got to be the stuff on the Wii U GPU. This article is from right around the time frame Wii U design was ramping up. 1t-SRAM done been replaced.

IBM unveiled a 32 nm SOI embedded DRAM, and will provide details at the upcoming IEDM in December. Gary Patton, vice president for IBM’s SRDC, said the SOI eDRAM has latency and cycle times of <2 ns, uses 4× less standby power, and has “up to a 1000x lower soft-error rate (SER), better power savings, and reliability comparable to a similar SRAM.”

According to Wiki, the 1t-SRAM on flipper had a latency of around 6.2 ns. :O

Do you guys realize the triforce is organized clockwise from the top as power -> courage -> wisdom?

Man, how perfect is that...

I think we'll probably get a 3DS revision next year. Don't most 3DS owners feel that there's obvious room for improvement with the hardware anyway ?

Gameboy - 1989
Gameboy Pocket - 1996
Gameboy Light - 1998 (Japan only)
Gameboy Color - 1998 (Stopgap)
Gameboy Advance - 2001
Gameboy SP - 2003
Gameboy Micro - 2005

DS - 2004
DS Lite - 2005
DSi - 2008/2009
DSi XL - 2010
3DS - 2011

Doubt it. I don't think the other hardware was selling at a loss when the revision was announced. The 3DS is expected to turn profitable (per machine) right before this Christmas season.

Also notice that there were no revisions between 2005 and 2008, which coincides with the Wii launch and production ramp-up.

I wonder if the Xbox Next is only more powerful than the Wii U because the gpu is a smaller die size and thus can be clocked higher. Like, architecturally it wouldn't surprise me if they were very nearly identical.

Absolutely not. Nintendo gimps their hardware on purpose and Microsoft is always pushing the technological boundaries of the impossible. There's no way they'll be even close.

Shit, I forgot.

Lol while his comment is kinda rediculous I would have to sort of agree with his outcome but not his methodology. We know the Wii U isn't going to be a big leap and is based on olderish harware, we also know that the 720 is going to be using dx 11 features so there would be some difference there for a start.

Well, sort of. It was implied by a PR person and then officially retracted.

I want to see GameCube, Sega CD, Saturn and Dreamcast all confirmed for Wii U VC. Maybe even 32X and 3DO too. Also, more Arcade support.

STOP TORTURING ME.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but Saturn will never be emulated on VC, for 2 reasons:

1) The system architecture made it nigh-impossible to emulate the system, and

2) Sega has already admitted to misplacing the assembly code for some of its own games, which means they can't be re-tweaked for emulation on a per-game basis.

Both these facts make picture-perfect VC releases impossible. Every time someone brings this up, it makes me want to cry.

As for Dreamcast? It'd be a big maybe.

All will be forgiven if you apologize in front of the Samaritan demo.

You have to present Reggie, Miyamoto or Iwata's severed head, though.

Also, the 'debate' on the bottom half of page 145 (50 posts per page) suddenly seems very interesting...

o_O

For a start, Wii U never had a chance of including dx11, but that doesn't preclude the equivalent features being present.

Monster Games most likely

Am I the only one who finds the output of this company, as well as that of Nintendo's other Western 2nd party developers, to be fairly mediocre? I know it's likely they're making a Wii U game but I'm not sure why anyone cares so much.

Monster is meh, but Next Level is pretty good and Retro is god tier. Do they have any other western studios?

EDIT: Doh, didn't realize that Next Level is third party. They've made games for 360, PS3 and PSP too.

Excite Truck was an excellent launch title. As for pilot wings, it seems to be pretty polarizing.

Excite Truck was a decent launch title despite its bare bones presentation, lack of content, half-baked multiplayer mode, generic soundtrack, and unimpressive graphics. Fortunately, the motion controls were intuitive and responsive and the gameplay was solid and refreshing. Besides it was from a small-time developer so it's not like the expectations were as high as that of Twilight Princess or even Red Steel.

Agreed. luckily, launch titles dont have to be show pieces as long as they are fun and different enough to get some eyes and interest. My only worry is just how deep the online will/should be. If a Monster racing game be it Excite something or wave race does exist for launch, i wouldnt be surprised if its how nintendo demos its friend list/joining/lobby functionality on the UPad.

I want just one really, truly good launch title to be crazy-excited about. The Wii launching with Twilight Princess really spoiled me, I think. I took off for the entire week of work, and having a huge game to play made it very worthwhile and memorable.

Pikmin 3 would fit that wish nicely. If Nintendo were to confirm it as a launch title, I'd have to replay through the first two before launch. And any doubts about taking a week off of work for this launch would vanish.

Are we expecting Miyamoto's new IP at launch or near launch window?

and GDC HYPE! Although I don't really expect much Wii U news. Unless there are some leaks abound.
