I think you guys are focusing too hard on New York City as a single destination... I bet you'll do a couple missions there, but there's also Boston and Philadelphia to check out. There is no one major city at that time and if it's during the Revolutionary War, you might be moving around with the war effort. I just can't wait until we capture that fucker Benedict Arnold.

I was looking forward to actually rooftop hunting Jack The Ripper in foggy, steamy rain soaked London. For shame Ubisoft, but as I said I'm not surprised. Is there any series this company hasn't destroyed?

Rayman? Potentially?

I don't know why you'd think that. Nothing in the previous games screamed that London would be next. And how has a location change 'destroyed' AC? The series has been set in Europe for FOUR games. Get over it, move on, and try something new. Jesus.

I just realized this could be a truly amazing interpretation of the Revolutionary War if Ubisoft allows for some creative freedom. We have a French publisher and French Canadian development house making a game about the American Revolution with help from teams all across eastern Europe and Asia. Are there even any Americans involved in creating this?

I think most people just wanted a more evocative setting but I think this could potentially be quite cool. How many games do we get that are set during the American Revolution?

It's simple opinion. Personally there are few periods of time more "evocative" than this.

Character design looks absolutely awful from that teaser. I think the period setting could be pretty interesting if done right. But seriously, do away with the white hoody for once.

I had trouble really getting into the first game and have yet to actually finish it. Is the series worth seeing through, do the games get less repetitive?

They become repetitive, especially if you play them all back to back to back, but in different ways from the first game. The side quests are more interesting and fun, but they can still become repetitive. Nobody is forcing you to clear the map, though. Most of it is optional.

Play AC2. Do it, you won't regret it.

And then play Brotherhood.

And then watch the ending of Revelations on Youtube, just so you're fully prepared for AC3.

But to answer your second question, the games get much less repetitive from the second one on. Really, AC2 is almost a completely different game than AC1.

i do kind of think that french revolution would have been more exciting, but, i can definitely see the argument that it's time to leave europe

Empire: Total War, Europa Universalis III, Birth of America come to mind as games that cover the American Revolutionary War.

Man i forget they are 4 games in already! I have 1&2 so maybe I'll just power through 1 and then fully enjoy 2.

well, the first two aren't really about the american revolutionary war, are they? they're just events that happen during those games

it does still seem to be a very under-represented period by comparison with say, WW2

Europe is a HUGE place spanning many different countries and cultures. That said I would have liked to have gone to Asia. American Revolution seems like a very interesting historical time but gameplay wise how is it going to work? Its going to be VERY interesting seeing how the founding fathers fit into all of this. I wonder how risky Ubi are going to be in how they portray them.

I'm hyped as hell, but I do hope that promo art isn't how the protagonist is going to be dressed. I'm really interested to see how they're going to portray some of the Founding Fathers. I'd love to see the navel battles as a backdrop somehow. The Midnight Ride could also make a crazy awesome stealthy escort mission.

The overreactions to the location are priceless, as are some of the pretty f'ed up comments reaching beyond that. Real classy.

Anyway. Hyped.

I remember before AC1 came out, everyone was concerned about how risky it was for Ubisoft to have a major AAA new IP featuring what seemed like a muslim brotherhood Assassin as the main character fighting against the Christian army during the Crusades. In the end it didn't really seem to be an issue at all, since all the discussion about AC1 seemed to be mostly about how terrible the game was instead. Yet it still became a huge success!

This is what i believe will be new in Assassin's Creed III:

-Horses will have a greater impact on gameplay, practically confirmed since the revolutionary war had many horses being used in battle.

-Axes, maybe some dismemberment will be in there considering the gore of this franchise.

-Trees will perhaps be the substitution for the lack of vertical architecture in this era and place. Thinking of forests.

-Naval warfare, ships being controlled by the player. They started this in Revelations.

Even though they were technically renamed, you could still play the Taliban and shooter U.S. soldiers in Medal of Honor in a war we were still actively in.

Didn't seem to have much impact.

Disappointing (really thought they'd go with that other revolution), but there's a lot they can do with this setting.

I anticipate espionage will play a major part.

at some point, though, they were going to have to tackle the US

No, Empire: Total War is definitely about the American Revolutionary War. Its campaign is the American quest for independence, and you play through the most important battles of the war.

Why? Or more to the point, why historically?

ahh, i didn't know that, thanks

because the whole conceit of their story is that it is a historical story about how the players behind the scenes of the major events in world history are manipulating events to bring them in line with their ideals. it would be rather incongruous to not address one of the most important periods in modern world history

you could say that any major events that they miss out are going to seem incongruous, i suppose

If the leaked artwork is anything to go by, the clothing design is a complete joke now. The new protagonist might wear a Chewbacca costume for fuck all.

Wouldn't make a lick of difference.

The promo piece with him standing on a rock? Looks fine to me.

It was the tutorial campaign, wasn't it? Ironic that it's also the best part of the game, or that's what I think at least.

Honestly, I'm shocked people aren't interested in this. This is an extremely interesting time period, the design is fucking awesome, and no big buildings probably means gameplay is going to be changed and evolved in some cool ways.
