Binary Domain |OT| BUYING THIS GAME IS Not up for Nagoshiation

Holy shit! I just finished it!

What a phenomenal game! The gameplay, the music, the story, characters...EVERYTHING just clicked! The ending post credits was lovely too.

Damn, what an experience. I pray there's going to be more to come from BD. Too much potential to be wasted. Dan and Faye are a great match too!

If you're on the fence about getting this game, seriously, jump for it. It's one of a kind!

Damn this game is amazing. If the new Contra doesnt top this and Vanquish...well...it better.

Reason why I brought this is up is because it feels like a sort of slower paced 3D Contra or at least has old school sensibilities when it comes to action pacing.
WATER SLIDE!!
! Also the voice acting is pretty good. First time i've heard someone with a slightly southern accent in a game like this.

Just came in here to post this. I was playing last night and thought to myself, "Man, this really reminds me of what Contra would be like if it made a full, third person conversion." With the robots, giant bosses, solid gunplay, setting, righteous soundtrack and all.

Anyways, time to go clean up
Chapter 5!

played some multiplayer survivor last night.

good times! watch out for haru696969, consider him a boss battle.

im at chapter 3 in the story. i think the pacing might match RE4. i agree that there are a bit too many walk and talk sections, especially for replay but it's all good.

so, does anyone NOT like this game?!

If I have subtitles enabled, will it subtitle the Japanese dialog? Or are you supposed to not understand what they are saying?

I'd rather keep them off...

Playing the 360 version (rental, probably going with PS3 as a purchase) and got some seriously strange prolonged framedrops from pressing the guide button without pausing the game.

This happened right at the beginning before the crane parts.

EDIT: Graphics are pretty sharp so far...as long as the PS3 version matches that, i'm good. Also glad to hear MP being touched on (might end up playing invasion more than anything though).

My framerate would drop dramatically every time I tried to mute my mic, which is a pain because there are usually people hanging out around my gaming area. No mic mode for me. :(

Like Duckroll said, it will subtitle the Japanese dialog, but as soon as you turn it off, it won't subtitle anything. Which I found kinda stupid tbh. I don't want the game subtitled, but for dialog in a language I don't understand, yes please.

I love the fact that they kept a lot of the Japanese people speaking Japanese. Way more realistic than everyone magically speaking English.

I had interest in this game, but it was in my maybe pile. Ended up not getting it. Thanks to this thread, got it coming from Amazon tomorrow. 3 day weekend, going to take care of some gaming business!

I completely agree. However, why not have an option to only display subtitles when Japanese is being spoken?

You know, how every single movie ever made was done?

My dog barked and was somehow recognized as "Fuck" so I ended up cussing out Big Bo on accident lol. But yeah, 360 version has some strange FPS problems all it's own.

EDIT: Game feels like you're playing the Shattered Solider CG intro.

Yeah. The story really took me by surprise. It keeps you guessing till the end. Just finished the game few hours ago, and it's definitely one of the highlights of this year.

This is seriously one of the most enjoyable TPS games I've ever played. Just got to the area shown in the second segment from the demo.

I got to chapter 3 last night, and am loving the game. So good.

However, the only time I die is during boss fights. Which I find to be pretty hairy and crazy. Normal encounters I'll take a bit of damage, but it isn't very challenging.

Does the game get a lot harder later? I'm considering restarting on hard (can I change the difficulty to hard mid-game?). However, I don't want it to be too crazy hard...

better to retry the game on Hard, normal difficulty is pretty easy IMO.

Are there different languages for the subtitles? (say, Japanese??) :p

I'm wondering whether to buy the import version or get the US version, but I basically want to play it in Japanese. So voice commands in Japanese too, hopefully.

Oh and the difficulty thing, if you start on Hard mode, are there any parts that are impossible later? That's what I usually find with hard modes, the beginning is just right, and then fuck you near the middle/end.

to me the last boss was pain in the ass...
but the rest of the game i think it was very balanced.

What's the consensus on framerates between the PS3 and 360 versions? The PS3 demo felt a big sluggish to me. Is it any better on the 360?

Are there any other notable differences between the versions?

Also, can anyone confirm whether or not the US 360 disc is region free? I have a Japanese 360 console.

Mando-install for PS3 version

but this time i really think its for the better, i mean the game boots up instantly(after dev logos) and when you press Continue Game, its like 10 seconds and you are in the action.

And yeah, Hard is the "normal" difficulty as you unlock the real Hard mode after completing the game.

As for Contra comparisons, maybe, but then the player would have to die from a single shot! :D

the 360 ver is better in term of frame stability, sharpness, and other special effects like rain effect:

also it's region free, i have the European ver working fine on my U.S system.

Thanks, I'll probably pick this up fro the 360 on my way home from work, then.

I was pretty impressed by the PS3 demo.

edit: one more question: how big of a disadvantage would I be in if I chose to not use a microphone? I didn't seem like a big deal in the PS3 demo, but how's the final game?

What changes when you change difficulty? Does the AI become more aggressive and interesting, or is it just some enemies have more health/you take more damage thing?

Hmm, I can't remember exactly but, was it ever mentioned what actually happened
to Cain?

Apparently, depending on trust levels and how you handle certain scenarios, you'll see Cain rescuing Faye instead of one of your other squad mates. I'm not sure how exactly you obtain this, but I'm spamming to get high levels of trust before I reach Cain on my second playthrough.

Well damn guys you are making me feel bad for not buying day 1 :(. I'm going to try and pick this up next week to give me something to play after I beat Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom

Hm. Charlie was Troy Baker and Kurosawa was JYB. Weird

Finished the game. Now I'm ultra hyped about Yakuza 5.

Probably my favorite third person shooter of all time. Not that I ever loved any that much except for Dead Space

Totally caught me by surprise, I thought for sure it was Greg Ellis.

overall I liked the English acting, there were some rough spots but still great. Guess it helps that (going by the credits) they did the motion cap as well.

really liking the game, but the partner AI is getting really annoying. They run into my line of fire then get mad at me, take the cover I was just taking, or take the space right next to me when theres only room for two people. Sometimes they dont take cover at all, and rescuing them sucks.

But besides that the game is really good.

That was my only real complaint. They are as dumb as bricks. Don't seem to do much damage to the enemy either.

Interesting, GAF seems to be in love but reviewers aren't, highest score on meta is an 80... The game is right up my alley so I'll be getting it anyway, but I'm very curious about the discrepency.

It's from Japan.

And it's a shooter.

Ironically, games with a "critical reception" like that are often those that I am most enthralled with. It was very similar with Nier, with only two Dutch, I think, sites rating it a 9X/100.

I was going to take a shower, but it was rated a 68 on Metacritic, so I decided against it.

Well if a game like Vanquish has 84% on metacritic I think it's safe to say that impressions here on gaf are much more important than professional reviews.

Tomorrow I'll probably have the game, all the positive impressions here make the wait much harder...though I'm pretty happy that people seem to enjoy the game a lot. :)

I want this game BAD!

But the cheapass in me cant justify it until it drops to $30-40 on amazon where I have some credit. So I will wait but it looks GOOOD!

Buy it! It is awesome! I'm going to spend my weekend finishing this game and playing online. I wish the some of the boss battles in this game were in mass effect.

It's not a heavily promoted game so reviewers give it a score based on merit and the fact they haven't heard about it before, hence it cannot exceed about an 80.

The people writing reviews today are for the most part a waste of your time.

alright upon my second playthrough, I've trying to get higher trust levels with some success,
as noticeable when I reach the scene again with treating Faye's wound, except this time without Cain interrupting the moment and asking if he should leave. He gets the point quick and leaves without saying a word, all while stopping Shindo from entering in a funny scene.

I'm really enjoying this game.

Loved that scene and i love your avatar.

Say what you will about the dialogue but i love it! I also love the characters, there isn't one I dislike. Well I thought i was going to hate Charlie for being a stuck up British guy, but he is alright.

This game really is a 3rd person contra game. I fought a boss with many arms....won't spoil it for anyone.
