I like this one better. Kind of proves that I think all Japan games should have a JP voice track. Not that I think the VAs are terrible, but if I can't understand them, it sounds like they're performing better since it's hard for me to make the distinction

Watching this cut scene is very sad actually. I felt really really bad for the robot. I'm not sure that I want to play this game. Is the premise of this game basically that you are killing robots that think they are human?

For the most part, you are killing robots that know they are robots. The whole reason you're there is because there is a law in place that robots can't behave like humans; that the research has been banned. So guys like that show up once in a while.

Don't want to get too into the story, but your character has some backstory with robots, and I imagine there will be some sort of 'we shouldn't do this' moment. Because it seems blatantly obvious from the synopsis

Will drop pants for Sony.
Big Boi: She reminds of an actress I've seen in a movie.

Dan: You know the only movies you watch are porn

Played the demo, gameplay wise it seemed pretty standard fare, but the story/setting/dialog is a whole different lot.

Hehe, i picked faye and rachael as my team...

"dan's got sleaze in his mind"

Yep. Kazuma, Gouda, Akiyama and Majima are playable in multiplayer via free DLC.

Are they all supposed to be available now? I went to the JPSN and only found the Akiyama skin. Does anyone know if the Japanese download will work with the American version of the game?

Somewhat related, can anyone tell me where the whole, "You guys...." thing comes from? I find myself laughing at it yet having no idea where it originated.

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.
Got this from gamefly on the 360, gonna keep this one. Damn awesome game.

"PS3 buyers will get Akiyama on February 28, Goda on March 6 and Majima on March 13. Xbox 360 buyers will get all three on March 13. The characters will be free."

Thanks. Any idea about whether or not those downloaded characters will be able to be used in the U.S. version?

And what about Kazuma?

Edit: Nevermind, "Yakuza series main character Kazuma Kiryu will be included as a download content bonus with the game's first print run"

So I just finished the main campaign, it was a heck of a ride and a lot of fun. The gameplay felt solid and while there were some framerate issues, it was nothing even close to gamebreaking or unbearable. There were also some sections I kept dying or restarting but it never caused me too much grief. The PS3 installation screen is a nice touch too.

The story was good, had some great moments even if there were some plot twists that were easily seen coming
(like the US Gov't./Army betraying them)
...still I was surprised at certain points
(Faye being a hybrid)
. There some points I just found to be a throw away
(Shindo/Kurosawa and this whole New World Order vs Freedom fighter schtick, plus I guess Mifune a bit)
...though this could just be elaborated upon on a possible sequel, which I hope there is one because for their first attempt at this? RGGG studios did a great job. From characters to set designs/pieces to the gunplay, it was well done despite evident room for improvement.

I should play with my headset next time and see if I can get my trust levels higher.
...Because in my playthrough Big Bo died and Cain was never seen again (whom were my two favorite characters), however I'm hearing that trust levels will actually give you different scenarios.

Overall, if you can pick this up now, do it, it's a fun game...and plus that means more people for online mode.

I don't think they're usable. Someone on Gamefaqs downloaded Akiyama, but saw no trace of him on his European copy.

Kazuma is included in the first-print Japanese copies.

Got it, thanks again.

Just made it to the beginning of Chapter 3, and lovin' it so far. Played some of the "Horde mode" last night with a friend, was really fun. We got up to wave 15 I think, and since the enemies are so fun to blast in general, that translated well to scenarios where wave after wave of robots attack you. Also, "Yes, that's it!"

By the way, if you don't want some enemy types spoiled for you than don't play the aforementioned online mode, as not more than a few waves in I started seeing enemy types that I hadn't encountered in the single player yet.

It wouldn't work. It's a different sku entirely. Same reason Gundam GAF has to buy dlc related to their version even though they can play together

DLC actually works just fine between Asian* and Japanese releases since the Asian release is the Japanese version in a different case.

*Asian versions that are in Japanese, not English.

I just fought a spider boss and i have to say, binary domain > Mass Effect 2. I love Mass Effect but Bioware could do a world of good by playing this game.

Well then I say this, SEGA, put this shit up as DLC for us poor saps livin' in the U.S. of A! Would be a bit of promotion for Dead Souls no?

I'm surprised they didn't. They released all the Yakuza 3 and 4 stuff from Japan as a Gamestop pre-order bonus then made it so you could buy it seperately.

Had that same thought as well, it's less than two weeks away too.

Actually 3's DLC was through gamestop, 4 had a voucher already included with each game no matter where you purchased it (all gamestop offered as an exclusive was a hostess theme), all of 4's DLC is free anyways.

I just know there's a BFS(big fuckin' switch) and all they have to do is turn it all the way to one side to make it available as DLC in the States....

This game is really, really good. Makes me think of Metal Gear and Gears of War mashed together, with a little bit of Terminator tossed in!

It's a real shame if this gets slept on.

Agreed completely. I really like the premise behind the story in this game, and I think it is really well told so far(Chapter 3), as far as videogame story standards go anyways. The game is just really fun to play, as shooting robots has yet to get old, and little segments with varying gameplay are introduced fairly regularly.

PLUS, Cain is my boy, that muthafucka can shoot!

Does anyone know where I can find a hi-res japanese version of the full (back and front) cover art for the 360? I want to swap out the sleeve.

I bought the full version and loving it so far. The cut scenes are pretty
Impressive -- the graphics engine is better than I expected and you can't beat Japanese
Robot designs.

@#$% game came in from gamefly (waited 2 days off for it!) right when i had to leave for work...installing in the morning!

Damn this game is amazing. If the new Contra doesnt top this and Vanquish...well...it better.

Reason why I brought this is up is because it feels like a sort of slower paced 3D Contra or at least has old school sensibilities when it comes to action pacing.
WATER SLIDE!!
! Also the voice acting is pretty good. First time i've heard someone with a slightly southern accent in a game like this.

EDIT: PC rumor?

i forget, wasn't this once listed as PC format somewhere, then that was pulled? i guess i'm putting an ounce of stock in it because Sega's been alright about porting some of their stuff this gen. no Yakuzas though, sadly...

wait, what new Contra?

really liking the game, but the partner AI is getting really annoying. They run into my line of fire then get mad at me, take the cover I was just taking, or take the space right next to me when theres only room for two people. Sometimes they dont take cover at all, and rescuing them sucks.

But besides that the game is really good.

I'm enjoying the game, but I really think there are too many "walking and talking" moments. It annoyed me in Gears, and this has about twice as much.

I've been working my way through the 360 version. Game is absolutely awesome thus far.

I'm still curious to know how the PS3 version holds up technically. The 360 version is generally solid, but suffers from slowdown during some of the more extravagant moments. The spider boss fight dropped some serious frames, for instance.

Also, as far as I can tell, most of the cutscenes are actually realtime unlike their previous games. Is this the case on PS3 as well? There are no artifacts and plenty of slowdown during some cutscenes, so I'm inclined to believe that they are indeed realtime.

Can you swap between left and right shoulder cams in the final game ala Chaos Theory? There were times I wish I could do that in the demo.

No real framerate drops here. Not enough for me to notice, at least. There were a couple cases like in the beginning with all the rain and the spider stuff, but like the
highway stuff
was completely smooth

PS3 final retail is pretty solid 'cept when there's lots of action. I'd say solid 30fps 85 percent of the time

Cutscenes are indeed realtime

Mando-install for PS3 version
