Binary Domain |OT| BUYING THIS GAME IS Not up for Nagoshiation

I finished this game in one sitting (with small breaks of course) on survivor mode, took around 10-11 hours. Played the PS3 version and there are some pretty constant framerate issues, no doubt about it.

But you know what? It didn't matter that much, this is such an engaging and cool game, the pace is so damn good. There were only 1 or 2 small scenes where I felt it overstayed it's welcome but overall man.... Good fucking shit!

The story ended up being really cool, I cared about nearly every character to some degree and the universe they created felt very fleshed out. I love games that have a sense of place and progression, this game always had a clear goal and seeing the different areas of the city was really nice. Such a badass game, I wanted to start all over again even though I've been playing literally all day.

Graphics were a bit inconsistent and framerate was definitely dodgy as shit but still, highest recommendations. I wish more people would give this game the time of day, it's far more deserving of your attention than 95% of the stuff that people buy these days. I really hope we get the sequel that this universe deserves.

Haven't felt this passionate about a game since Bayonetta and Vanquish pretty much. I really loved this even if it wasn't 100% polished. Buy this game people!

One question about the teammates on Chapter 5 is it fixed or can you change them around? Spoiler tags if appropriate.

Wow amazon is fast. Binary Domain showed up yesterday at work after I left and now I found it sitting on my desk. The email amazon sent me said it was arriving on Thursday. Happy leap year I guess

I don't know if it's the type of game that I'd instantly reccomend to someone, but I really enjoy it.

It's got great atmosphere, shooting. Graphics look nice(not amazing, but 'nice'), and I really like the storyline itself.

The characters are so so. The voice acting is so so. Charlie's generally good. Bo's generally good. Faye's voice doesn't match at all. Dan's all over the place which I'm sure is because of the lines he gets because he borders on 'pretty good' sometimes.

There's some annoying parts similar to Uncharted 1's jet ski levels that frustrated me but they're fairly short. So far, they do a pretty good job of varying up the environments. Since it's Nagoshi, you better believe they put in a
hidden Japanese gambling/escort/drug venue

Not really playing the game for the voice acting. I loved the shooting in the demo and with my 20 bucks off from amazon i decided to order the game.

Blame Amazon for not offering release date shipping.

I wished they did, but i guess they shipped it and i received it on tuesday (or it was at my job on tuesday)

Is the retail game better than the demo? I played the demo, and it just felt like a solid but generic cover based shooter.

In the middle of Chapter 4, but I decided to take a break. Seriously, the game is paced flawlessly. It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to put this game down. The enemies are WAY too satisfying to destroy and the developers mix up the scenarios with cool, alternate gameplay segments
(Jet skis, factory/mine carts, driving mission, etc.)
Team Yakuza really was going for that Gears of War-style experience. Way before the game released I convinced myself that the team would implement their usual Yakuza formula. You know, side distractions and mini-games, whether that would be in the form of optional chapter challenges or a shooting gallery, etc. But they really stuck to their guns for this type of game. Binary Domain is all action, which I've totally accepted at this point.

Now that I feel like I am at the half way point I really don't mind that there are no mini games or side quests, etc. They clearly wanted to make a game in the vein of most campaign shooters today and I think they nailed it. As I've said before, it's pretty fucking phenomenal that a Japanese studio can create something that imitates and IMPROVES on a very tired western formula. On top of that, this is their first time making a game like this and people STILL give the game a hard time. I'll never fucking understand it. Team Yakuza should be commended for pulling off a game that feels and looks as good as this.

Seriously, you thought the Gears head shot felt good? Popping robots heads in Binary is on a whole other level of satisfaction. Sure, the voice recognition stuff isn't perfect (I cannot find a middle ground with the noise disturbance option) and the skill system isn't nearly as fleshed out as it could have been, but for what's here, it's good. There is a TON of potential here for a sequel/game that can be even greater. It's a shame so many people are neglecting this game for garbage like Mass Effect 3. It's even sadder for those who are waiting for a price drop. Support this shit so we can get an even greater title. This is an IP that SHOULD NOT be forgotten.

I agree with this 100%. I waited years for a decent sci-fi terminator-like type of game. This is all that terminator should have been, plus much more. I love that you can head shot the big black robots (T-01) that would be otherwise a bitch to kill, and then once you get them headless, they turn on other robots. it makes the game going from bullet sponge to tactical with one simple idea.

There is so much potential with the story and the characters for a sequel of a prequel. TBH Team yakuza took ther oldest sci-fi formula and gave it a new lease of life. its so refreshing to play a game that is so self-consciouly inspired by western sci-fi tradition without being a copy of it.

On the game side, I found that limiting my med kit supply made the game harder but more satisfying. I replayed the spider boss a few times trying to beat it with style and speed, its just so memorable and even the slow down reminds me of shoot'em ups intensity when the screen is just too full of missiles and destruction.

BD is like the bastard child of Vanquish and Terminator. I though I would not play another game as good as Vanquish for a long time, but story wise I just cant believe how interesting and fun BD is. I am in love with this game.

Hate to go game pub/retailers on you, but if people don't show pre-order interest in a game? The publisher has no clue how much to send. Especially with a new IP

edit: And for numbers sake, my gamestop got 2 PS3 preorders and 3 extra copies of the PS3 game. 2 copies of the 360 version/no reserves
I'm with ya, but I typically reserve from Amazon. However, in this case, Amazon never updated the product page to suggest that release day delivery was an option so I never ordered it. As a result, I ended up looking at retail stores instead.

I did manage to find it. Ended up with the 360 version due to all PS3 copies being sold out at various stores (I'm sure they received only 2 or 3 to begin with). Oh well, the 360 version is probably better anyways from a technical standpoint.

Team Yakuza should be commended for pulling off a game that feels and looks as good as this.
I agree. They did an amazing job. The core gameplay mixed with alternate gameplay scenarios is handled perfectly. The way they effortlessly move between cutscenes and gameplay is also quite impressive.

I have to admit that I never expected this after "Of the End", which was absolutely awful to play. One of the worst "shooters" this gen, honestly. Binary Domain stands up right next to the best output from the West, which is a feat few Japanese developers have been able to match.

Can't wait!

Picking this up today after work (^___^)

jumping into it after just finishing Synidicate ...which, yeah =/
I didn't even finish Syndicate. As beautiful as the game is, I never really found it to be all that engaging.

Binary Domain is so much more interesting thus far. A gem of a shooter!

Yup, I'm in the process of returning Syndicate to Amazon. Every time I play it, I just keep getting reminded of how much better an experience BD is.

<3 Faye.

Pretty bad considering the campaign in Syndicate is fairly short

i'm playing through this on hard(survivor) difficulty, and i recommend it to anyone starting too. makes for some serious moments when those terminators are just eating bullets and not stopping :D

is Syndicate a difficult game or a pushover on normal/hard?

Syndicate is a pushover on hard. I thought it was a pretty good campaign for a heavily-scripted FPS, though I could see people considering it pretty generic.

I started this last night not quite knowing what to expect and was really impressed. Pumped to get back to it!

It SEEMS like it should be great, though. The scenery is amazing, the weapons look and sound wonderful, the world is intriguing, the sound design is excellent, visuals impressive, etc.

Yet, it's just lacking a certain "something" that fails to draw me in. The story and characters are handled in such a half-hearted fashion and there is a very poor sense of progression.

What's really missing is the glue to tie everything together. I would love to have paid a visit back to HQ between missions, explore the building, talk to people, etc. The game simply drops you into linear missions that focus completely on shooting. There's no exploration, no stealth, and nothing else to do besides follow the path and shoot enemies. There's nothing to keep you playing and it really hurts.

I understand that a lot of Starbreeze staffers had jumped ship while this game was in production, but I was still expecting them to deliver an experience comparable to previous Starbreeze games.

Binary Domain is like the reverse of Syndicate. Ryu ga Gotoku Of the End was a fucking piece of shit. The gunplay could not possibly have been more outdated and worthless. It would have been an average shooter in 2003 on PS2, but in this day and age it just doesn't work. Binary Domain comes along, then, and offers up action right up there with the best in the genre along with a very strong presentation. All Ryu ga Gotoku games have had lavish cutscenes (pre-recorded videos) with a lot of awkward animations, poor camera placement, and other such issues in game. Binary Domain corrects every one of these issues and delivers a technically solid, polished shooter that seamlessly weaves between cutscene and gameplay. It's very impressive!

Yep. That's one problem about this game, other than the great soundtrack, the audio mix is just nowhere near as good right after playing Syndicate

Played a few chapters last night and I'm just really impressed with the story, graphics and gameplay. Team Yakuza makes another game I have fallen in love with (no surprise).

Really glad Nagoshi got promoted, as I think he makes most of the great SEGA games these days.

Also a pat on the back to all the people in this thread who are supporting new IP.

Sustained firefight
leading up to Denham's office[/quote] is amazing. Your living room will sound like a warzone (O__O)

I was thinking I might be the only person with this problem. When playing, I'm usually wearing headphones and the sound effects/dialogue are ear poundingly loud, while the music is nowhere near loud enough.

Yet another game I wish had individual audio sliders.

is anyone using the move for voice recognition?

i tried using it last night. i played using the headphones for sound, and my move for the mic to prevent cross talk.

i couldn't really get much to work, and a lot of the time the AI thought i was talking when i was just pushing buttons.

the concept is a lot of fun though, i like saying "fuck you" after "you ready for this?"

not big on the save system. not sure what i did, but i went to load my late chapter 2 save and it started a new game, and saved over my first game. oh well. i wish you could manually make saves like yakuza.

Ignore this post, damn I must be brain dead today. You have to use A to get out of the thing. I thought it was B.

Wow. What the crap.

I think I've encountered a game breaking bug. In one of the chapters you ride these carts and shoot red lights to enable you to continue on the tracks. Well I get the the end of cart ride and I cannot get out of the cart no matter what I do. I've tried resetting the game, turning off the console, trying again. I've even tried killing all of the enemies thinking it may trigger something for me to go on.

Nope.

Unless I am missing something, I'm stuck and can not continue in the game.

Anyone out there got to this part and could help ?

360 version BTW.

I used Move for the JP demo and it worked fine. I have the 360 version of the full game, though, as the PS3 version was unavailable when I went searching.

Got about an hour in last night. Didn't use the voice comands since I had a newborn sleeping on my chest and didn't want to wake her up. Love the atmosphere of this game.

Can you customize your equipment in this game? I've seen certain videos of the main character wearing some kind of ninja armor, or something? Thanks.

I love Neo-Tokyo settings, really want to get this. Any word on sales so far?

I got the ninja armor (for Dan) as a preorder bonus from Gamestop. I'm guessing it shows up in the store or something.

That's not for Dan; it's for the multiplayer. The pre-order bonus for Dan is a couple skills. To my knowledge, there's no cosmetic change options

The game is that good huh? I love a good Gears-style TPS. The voice acting isn't a turn off? How linear are the environments? And the story is actually somewhat good? Really? It's not like real cheesy Japanime trash?

I noticed that the (free) Akiyama multiplayer skin is up on the Japanese store. Has Sega said anything about the RGG characters getting released for the rest of the world?

You know, I'm thinking evil thoughts here, but if they were marketting better, they'd unlock if you play Dead Souls in two weeks. And you'd get a Scrap crew gear for Akiyama in Dead Souls

Eh, the voice acting is OK but the game definitely has a Japanese feel to it. I'm actually kind of enjoying it despite realizing that it's all kind of schlocky.

Here's what you can expect from the story telling.

It's engaging in a way similar to a Metal Gear title, I'd say.

i am still sort of pissed we didn't get any of the yakuza skins that JP got.

cannot wait to go home and play more. i'll try my BT tonight and hopefully i can issue some commands.

does it recognize bru bru sky?

congrats to nagoshi!

I like this one better. Kind of proves that I think all Japan games should have a JP voice track. Not that I think the VAs are terrible, but if I can't understand them, it sounds like they're performing better since it's hard for me to make the distinction

Yep. Kazuma, Gouda, Akiyama and Majima are playable in multiplayer via free DLC.

Screw that. I imported Ryu ga Gotoku OF THE END last year, not buying it again.

I just made it through Chapter 1 at lunch, and I have to say I'm highly impressed! The voice acting and script are just top notch; the story has me hooked. I also laughed out loud a few times, which was a pleasant surprise.

I have a feeling this game will slip under everyone's radar, but I hope it sells well enough to justify a sequel, and I say that having only done the first chapter.

O, zavvi... I preorder the game and get it at high price and I've yet to receive it :/

They send me the DLC codes thought email, but the game, send on 22 February, just isn't here :/

no - thereare only two of such scenes in the game. the rest is not of the same quality.

Yeah, wouldn't use that scene as the bar. Most of the other scenes are like this:

<Crew member>: WOAH CAN'T BELIEVE WE SURVIVED THAT!
Dan: Hur dur I love danger.
<Crew member>: Oh Dan you're so wacky.
Dan: I hate robots.
<Crew Member>: Okay let's get going, we have to stop the bad guys!

i got stuck in a funny Big Bo loop last night, he kept saying half of a sentence related to battle

"i think we bit off more then we"

"I think we bit off more then we"

"I think we bit off more then we"

CAN CHEW MOTHERFUCKER! lol

Finished the game this afternoon. Loved it. The story was awesome, the characters were great, etc. Good stuff all around. The ending was really fucking cool too. We NEED a sequel to this game.

Checked out the mutliplayer. It's surprisingly fun and works extremely well. I noticed some people warping around a bit, but for the most part it's pretty stable. Holy shit though, there are like A TON of Online Challenges. Before this game came out I wondered if Team Yakuza was going to implement their usual "Completion" menu somewhere in the game. When I found out (and now having played the game) that they didn't incorporate such things into the singleplayer I was a bit shocked. BUT, lo and behold, it was sitting in the multiplayer options the whole time! I knew these guys couldn't get away from it! They hid the shit in there one way or the other!

While the multiplayer is pretty fun and surprisingly works well, I don't think I would have committed myself to getting into the network features if I didn't have such a strong passion for Team Yakuza. Thankfully, I have a few buddies who are into these game as much as I am so I'll at least have a few people who will be down to play these modes, whenever. There is A LOT of time to be spent on the mutliplayer modes though if you want to 100% the game. I sort of wish the team made these challenges accessible across all game modes including the campaign. At least the weapon challenge ones because let's face it people, will there really be a strong community for this game in a year? While I would like there to be, it probably will be a ghost town in a few months. I could be wrong, but it's most likely the case.

A campaign/single player challenge list would have been cool too. It would have added more reason to check out the campaign (other than seeing the story with different characters and collecting those data disks). There could have been stuff like completing a chapter without using a first aid kit, time trial runs, etc. It would have fleshed out the single player more instead of throwing it all exclusively into the network modes.
